Author's Notes:

Circle of Time is my first AU fic revolving around the lives of our four Weiß bishounen during their teen & young adult years. Being an AU fic, their lives have been totally altered by yours truly, although there are some aspects that I've kept true to the original series. Right now, it seems that Ran and Yohji will be the main pairing in this fic, but I am planning to develop the Ken and Omi pairing as much as the story will allow me to. The fic is centered on the four of them, after all. I've also included my first yuri pairing -- Birman and Manx into the story. I don't really plan to get too detailed with them. However, they will play a major guiding role in our Weiß boys' lives.

Please be forewarned that this fic will be quite dark and violent. The later chapters will have major warning bells sounding off as the story begins to reflect how cruel and merciless our world can really be. So please, read the warning after the disclaimer before you decide to follow this fic as it evolves.

Well, that's enough for now. I hope I haven't scared you away. If I haven't, (**smiles proudly**) please go on and read the prologue to my fic, Circle of Time. I hope that you enjoy it enough to send a review (**sits nervously waiting**).

Thanks so much,

Circle of Time Prologue

"Here are the files that Lt. Osaki dropped off this morning," Mika stated as she handed a stack of manilla files to the redheaded woman sitting primly behind the mahogany colored desk.

She'd reviewed the files just minutes before and was still somewhat unsure about the decision she and her lover had made when they had volunteered their services to help a group of parolees from the Juvenile Correctional Facility in town. But I can't get that one file out of my head.

"Oh, good," answered Akemi as she enthusiastically took the files away from the brunette. "We can finally get things started."

"The Lieutenant also provided a brief summary on the four boys," Mika informed the other woman as she placed four stapled sheets of white paper on top of the files.

"Let's see," Akemi said as she looked at the summary she had just been handed. She sat back against her seat and began to read the list aloud. "First one on the list...Ran Fujimiya...age 16."

Akemi reached over to retrieve Fujimiya's file and opened it. "Hmm, he was orphaned at the age of 13 when his parents died in a car accident. He and his sister survived the accident and were immediately placed in their uncle's care." Flipping the page, Akemi came across a recent police report and continued reading out loud. "Two weeks ago, he pulled a knife on another classmate and stabbed him in the leg. Fortunately for the both of them, the injury was a minor one."

"Yeah," agreed Mika. "But unfortunately for the both of us, he definitely has a lot of anger to deal with. The kid may be a problem for us to handle, Akemi."

Akemi looked up at Mika with determined green eyes. "Perhaps, but I'm sure that we'll be able to manage."

Mika rolled her dark eyes and gave her lover a doubtful look before saying, "I hope so."

"I know so," Akemi stated confidently, giving Mika an encouraging smile before she turned back to the summary she'd been reading. "Okay, next on the list is...Ken Hidaka...age 15." Akemi skimmed the police report found in the file and said, "An all around good kid up until a week ago when he was caught stealing with a group of his friends."

Mika shook her head and crossed her arms over her snug black blouse. "Typical peer pressure. Gets them every time."

"It sounds like that to me as well," agreed Akemi as she looked through Hidaka's file. "It also says here that he volunteered to join this program."

"Guilty conscience?"

"Probably, considering that this was his first offense."

Mika smirked, feeling sort of sorry for the teen. "The kid's probably scared shitless over the whole thing."

Akemi nodded her head as she moved on to the next name on the list. "Third on the list...Omi Tsukiyono...age 14." Akemi opened the file and frowned. "Orphaned at the age of 4...adopted by...." The redhead let out a surprised whistle.

"Saito Tsukiyono," Mika finished the redhead's sentence. "As in Tsukiyono and Takatori Enterprises. The kid's stinking rich."

"He's also an honor student, a genius actually and had a clear record until three weeks ago when he was caught destroying school property. " Akemi added as she quickly read the police report. A scarlet eyebrow lifted in surprise and she looked up at her grinning lover. Incredulously she stated what Mika already knew. "He infected his highschool's computer system with a self-destruct virus."

Mika shook her head still amazed by what Tsukiyono had done. "The kid said he'd been having some problems with the principal's son. And when he complained to a few of his teachers and even to the principal himself and was ignored, he sort of lost his temper."

"Jeez, kids these days," Akemi mumbled as she placed the Tsukiyono file on top of the others and reached for the last file on her desk. "Well, moving on, we have our fourth and final participant...Yohji Kudou."

Mika tensed as she watched Akemi open Kudou's file. The file was a bit thicker than the others but Akemi had apparently not noticed that fact.

"Yohji Kudou...age 17...was adopted by Lt. Shiro Kudou at the age of 12. A general trouble maker it seems. Drinking, doing mild drugs, fighting...." Akemi turned a page and found the current police report. "And a week ago, he assaulted one of his teachers during class." Akemi noticed another police report within the file, this one a few years old and frowned. "What's this?"

Mika felt her heart clench as she saw Akemi's frown disappear and her beautiful green eyes widen in horror. She found it.

"Oh my God," whispered Akemi as she read the police report and the other reports following it.

Mika sighed and walked over to the redhead who's hands were shaking as they held the file. She placed a gentle hand over her lover's shoulder and reached over with the other to close Kudou's folder. Akemi looked up at her with tear filled eyes as she placed the file back on the desk.

"The kid had it bad, love," she stated, wanting to comfort her lover but at the same time feeling as if she should allow the other woman to fully see what they were getting themselves into. "It's no wonder he's the way he is. And because of his past, he's going to be the hardest nut to crack."

Akemi reached up and placed her hand over Mika's squeezing it gently. The brunette looked down at her beloved and saw Akemi's intake of breath as the scarlet-haired woman fought to regain her composure.

"It doesn't matter," Akemi said, her voice a mixture of fragility and strength. She pointed a long finger to the thick folder resting on top of the others. "He's the reason why I want to do this, Mika. Why our youth program is so important to me."

Mika nodded in sudden understanding, her doubts vanishing in the light of her partner's determination. Shit, how can I not want to do this, too?

Akemi reached over and placed her hand over the four files on her desk. "These four boys need our help, our guidance." The redhead shook her head. "It's not going to be easy and they aren't going to make things any easier for us. But in the long run, Mika, it'll all be worth it when they come to realize that they are worth saving, that they can have faith in others." Akemi paused and took a deep breath as she turned her head to look up a Mika. "That life isn't as hopeless as they think it is."

Truly touched by Akemi's words, Mika swallowed and found her voice. "Yeah, I guess you're right." She smirked and once again crossed her arms. "They don't stand a chance against us. We'll get these kids walking on the straight and narrow soon enough, love." Even if I have to kick everyone of their young asses along the way to do it.

Mika Birman smiled as a warrior's gleam sparkled in her dark eyes. This is going to be fun.

Alone now in her office, Akemi Manx sat with her elbows on top of her desk as she rested her chin over her crossed hands. She stared down at the files in front of her lost in thought.

More than an hour had passed since she'd first examined the contents within the folders. She knew she should file them away in the cabinet behind her but she still could not manage to remove them from her sight.

Once again, she eyed the thick file on top of the other three feeling her chest tighten in pain as she remembered what she'd read in it. She lowered her hands on either side of the files and felt a familiar anger well up inside of her as she thought back to her own miserable childhood.

Her hands fisted and Akemi's eyes narrowed in determination as she made a vow to herself and to the four teens soon to be under her care, a vow that she swore to the heavens she would not break.

I'll do the best I can to help the four of you and I'll do whatever it takes to make sure that the world doesn't triumph over your spirit. You four are going to pass the test life is giving you. I'm going to see to it.
