New Age: All The Time In The World

Kaoru blinked back at him, a shocked look on his face. “You’re in love with me?”

Shinji’s face turned beet red. How idiotic! To let something as simple as a play force the words out of him. He couldn’t blame it all on the play, he thought glumly. He had wanted to tell Kaoru.

He took a breath and nodded.

Kaoru stared at him for a long time, his mouth quirked up at one corner, a studying, questioning look. His eyes were narrowed with intense focus. Shinji felt himself growing smaller and smaller under such scrutiny. Did Kaoru want him to explain himself? Was he disgusted? A human in love with an Angel? Or, a boy in love with what posed as a boy?

As Shinji started to open his mouth to speak, Kaoru spoke. “I don’t understand you. I already told you that I love you, back before the Third Impact. Why are you so serious? And why tell me now, so long after?”

Tears welled up in Shinji’s eyes. This intelligent boy didn’t know a damned thing about the human psyche. “Kaoru… I mean, I love you the way that you love me, but more. I… And I didn’t realize until after you gave me your life what a gift I had thrown away.”

Kaoru seemed to understand him. A smile spread over his face. “What kind words from Shinji-kun. Please do not feel guilty about it. But I still don’t follow. You love me more?”

Shinji pressed his lips together in a grim line. He would just do it. He would show Kaoru what he meant by love. That not only did he admire him and love him emotionally, but physically as well.

He slowly leaned forward, placed one hand on the back of Kaoru’s head, and kissed him. He didn’t want to frighten him, but he didn’t want Kaoru to have any doubt about what he meant. While it was a gentle kiss, it was a persistent one. Shinji lightly ran his tongue over Kaoru’s silky lips, loving the feel there, the small currents of ecstasy that ran through him. It was just like his dreams. Better than his dreams.

He forced himself to pull away to check on Kaoru’s reaction. The other boy was panting lightly, his lips and cheeks slightly flushed. Shinji wanted to kiss him again. Before he knew what was happening, Kaoru had him pinned down on the couch and was hovering over him, his face mere centimeters away from Shinji’s. Kaoru then settled down on him, pressing his weight pleasantly on top of his body. This was too good. Shinji let out a low moan and stifled it in his mouth; it sounded almost like a purr. Kaoru rested his head between Shinji’s shoulder and neck. His hips met his. It was a good match.

“I know almost everything,” Kaoru said quietly. “I know about fate. I understand the patterns of human behavior. But I do not understand love.”

“It’s one of those things you have to experience for yourself, I guess.” Was that really him, Shinji Ikari, replying in such a sincere and knowing tone?

Kaoru kissed his neck, then whispered in his ear: “I love you, Shinji. I am yours. You are mine.”

Shinji blinked in shock. Was this déjà vu? “You…”

Kaoru lifted himself up enough to look into Shinji’s eyes. His voice was mischievous. “I must say, your dreams are rather hard to sort through. So blurry and incoherent.”

“Why, you!” Shinji flipped him back over. He realized that Kaoru had let him. He drew his arms around Shinji and smiled, pressing his body against his in all the right places. For someone who claimed he didn’t understand anything at all about love…

Kaoru laughed. “I mean it, Shinji. I do. I was born for your sake. I am yours, forever.”

Shinji smiled, touched.

“What time is your mother due back?” Kaoru’s voice was low, almost teasing. His eyes were mischievous. Shinji loved it.

“Tuesday,” he whispered, running his hands through his silky locks. Visions of Kaoru in the diamond-like fabric, bursting up from the water, were playing in his mind as he looked down at him. Visions of his dreams, of Kaoru spending a night of passion with him, were there, too.

But laying like this was also exceptionally nice.

“Then we’ve got all the time in the world,” Kaoru whispered, clutching Shinji to him. Shinji let out a deep sigh of contentment. All the time in the world had a lovely ring to it.
