Warning!!!! This is a yaoi fanfiction starring Serge and Nikki from Chrono Cross. If the idea of male homosexuality bothers you , please do not read this story. If rated, this story should be PG-13. This story starts out just two months after the main ending of Chrono Cross, when the elements were used in proper order to restore peace and harmony to the universe with the chrono cross element, followed on a Nikki path. For those of you who played the Japanese version of the game, Nikki was originally known as Slash, lead singer of the Magical Dreamers. Now for the fun part... ^_^

Where Angels Lose Their Way

Nikki adjusted his sunglasses as he entered the small fishing village of Arni. He paused to look around, having the nagging feeling of deja vu.

Arni was small, but busy, filled with people going about their business. A woman stood in the center selling elements from a cart, and a huge swordfish hung over an archway. A middle-aged man standing by the entrance looked over at the young rock singer and gaped.

"Hey!! Aren't you Nikki??" the man asked loudly.

Nikki sighed, looking over at the man. With all the posters of him everywhere, and his unmistakable appearance, it wasn't easy to spot him. But Nikki had still hoped that no one would notice in this little town.

"Yeah. That's me. You people got an inn around here?" Nikki asked, brushing back his blood red hair.

The man gaped for a little. "Uh... No... But I'm sure if you asked Radius, our village chief, he could help you.... Where's that real pretty dancing girl of yours?" the man leered.

Nikki rolled his eyes. "Probably in the middle of fucking the whole island of Marbule, why?" the beautiful rock singer asked with evident boredom in his voice. If it wasn't some idiot girl throwing herself at his feet, it was some moron asking about Miki. Nikki already knew the next question that would come, and tried not yawn.

"So, uh... She's your girlfriend, right? What's she like in bed?" the man asked.

Nikki managed not to look offended as he answered. "No, she's not my girlfriend. And I have no idea what's she like in bed, but according to what every man that's slept with her says, I'm guessing she's pretty good."

"You never slept with her???" the man asked in shock.

Nikki smirked, his black lipstick cracking slightly. "No, I never slept with her. I'd probably catch a disease or something. So where's this Radius person?" he asked as he hefted his bag on his slim shoulder.

The man blinked. "Radius is in his yard, through the arch.... I can't believe you never slept with a babe like that... Are you gay or something?" the man said, still shocked.

"As matter of fact, I am. And thanks..." Nikki purred, heading towards the arch, leaving an extremely shocked man behind him. He always found people's reaction to that statement amusing.

Nikki walked through the archway, admiring the huge swordfish as he went. When he entered the yard, he was knocked over by a fat, pink dog, who was being chased by a little girl.

"Hey!! Watch it!!" Nikki yelled, glaring daggers at the dog and the child. Both started to giggle and ran off before Nikki could do anything to them. He again felt the deja vu feeling as the dog ran off.

Nikki gnashed his teeth and opened his electric guitar case, checking his beloved guitar to ensure it was still safe. He then pulled out a compact and began to check his make-up, ensuring that wasn't smeared. The rock singer sighed when he noticed his hair was a mess, and his face powder had smeared and started to rectify the matter when he noticed a shadow looming over him.

When the young man looked up, he saw an elderly man leaning on a staff, looking amused. Nikki blinked for a moment, felling deja vu even stronger than before. "Uh... Hey..." Nikki said slowly.

The elderly man held out a hand to Nikki, helping him up. "Hello there, young one. You are new to this town, but I get the feeling I know you from somewhere... Have we met before?" he asked.

"Um, maybe... You seem awful familiar to... Hey, uh, do you know where I can find some guy named Radius?" Nikki asked, putting his compact up when he was done fixing his make-up.

"I am Radius..... What can I help you with...?" the elderly man asked, blinking at the lavishly applied make-up and odd hair color on the feminine looking man.

"Well, I'm Nikki, as in Nikki of the Magical Dreamers.... I was kinda hoping you could hook me up with a place to stay.... I'm here looking for somebody...." Nikki said, now combing his hair back into place.

Radius blinked. "Well... I don't know who the Magical Dreamers are, young lady, but I'm sure that someone here would be willing to give you somewhere to sleep if you wish... May I ask whom you are looking for?" the old man asked, still unsure about the gender of the lavishly dressed person before him.

Nikki sighed, thinking he should have worn his leather costume rather than the black outfit he was wearing. "I'm male... And I don't know the guy's name... He's got blue hair... and blue eyes... I keep dreaming about him... Got this feeling I should come here to look for him...."

"Only blue-haired boy I know of is Serge.... He should be at Lizard Rock, trying to get komodo scales... You can find him there, or you can wait...." Radius offered.

"Serge? That's it! Later!!" Nikki cried, dumping his belongings on the ground and grabbing his guitar. "Take care of my stuff for me!"

The old man blinked. "What? Kids, these days...." he sighed, picking Nikki's things up and heading into his house.

Nikki dashed off outside of the village, running towards Lizard Rock. He did not know how he knew where it was, but he ran anyways, letting his sense of deja vu lead him.

The beautiful bard slowed down when he reached the rocky outcroppings, looking around at all the beach bums. A young komodo dragon skittered away from him as he walked around, looking for the boy in his dreams.

Nikki was so busy looking around, that he did not notice the slippery rock he was climbing on. The young man gave a cry of startlement as he slipped down into a small waterfall, twisting his ankle.

"Bummer...." Nikki muttered, wincing as he moved his ankle. He was in about two feet of water, and soaking wet. All his make-up was dribbling off his face under the waterfall. Nikki tried to stand and then fell, crying out loudly in pain, leaning over to clutch his twisted ankle.

Nikki leaned back against the rock, letting the blue water pour over him. He closed his eyes, unconsciously breathing in the water. He did not sputter, or cough.... He breathed it in as naturally as air. He leaned his face upwards, getting lost in the strange sensation of breathing water.

How am I doing this? How can I breathe water? Nikki thought as he immersed himself in the clear blue water.

The young bard felt himself become drowsy, the pain in his ankle beginning to throb dully. Nikki's slender body slipped into the water, and he let sleep overtake him....

He was in water....

He was swimming to the top, and could see the sun streaming down from the surface. When he broke the surface, the surreal and quiet world beneath the waves left him, faced with the harsh reality of sunlight and air.

He stumbled onto the wet sand of a beach. Standing on the beach staring at him was a teenage boy holding a swallow. The young man had blue hair and blue eyes, with a bandana wrapped around his head. Behind him stood a knight with pale green hair and scars on his face. And one other.

He realized he was looking at himself, holding his guitar, wearing his stage costume. The young man with blue hair held up a glowing egg before a purple wormhole, and the trio disappeared into the darkness of time.

The darkness of time..... It's where it all ended.... And where it all began....

Nikki awoke to someone gently shaking him. He blinked his eyes and then rubbed them, not believing what he saw.

"Are you alright?" a quiet baritone asked him.

Nikki gaped at the elfin features of the boy before him. The young man's blue hair was mostly covered by a colorful bandana, and his large blue eyes gazed on the handsome rock singer with concern.

"Do you need a doctor?" the cyan-haired youth asked him.

"Serge!!!!!" Nikki cried, throwing his arms around the surprised young man in joy.

"Um.... do I know you....?" Serge asked weakly.

"Oh, Serge..." Nikki cried. "I thought I'd never find you..."

"Sir.... Um.... Sir?" Serge asked, still being held tightly by the slender man.

"And my ankle hurts like a bitch...." Nikki sobbed, as if uninterrupted.

"Let's get you to the doctor....." Serge sighed, wondering why this person knew him, and why he was so familiar.

Serge helped the other man up, letting the taller boy rest his weight on him. "If you don't mind me asking, sir, have we met?" he asked.

Nikki blinked. "Serge... It's me, Nikki..... I... think we've met..." he said, confused.

"Nikki...?" Serge asked, stopping and studying the man without his make-up and stage costume. "I... think... I do know you...."

"In dreams..." Nikki said quietly, studying Serge.

"In dreams..." Serge repeated, studying Nikki's face as well.

Nikki took the opportunity to lean in closer to Serge, drawing his lips close to Serge's. Serge dropped his eyes to Nikki's lips, not avoiding the rock singer's advances.

Nikki dropped his eyelids, his lips almost touching Serge's.

"Se-erge!?!? Where are you!?!?" a shrill voice called, ruining the moment.

Serge snapped back, swallowing and turning his face quickly from Nikki, trying to hide the blush that was creeping across his cheeks. "I'm over here, Leena!!" he called.

A red-headed girl appeared, her hands on her hips. "Serge!! Where have you been!?!? And who's that girl hanging off of you!?!?" she demanded hotly, glaring evilly at Nikki.

"I'm not a girl! I'm Nikki, the lead singer of the Magical Dreamers!" Nikki protested, wincing as his ankle began to throb again.

"Well, excuse me, Ni-... Nikki?? Nikki!!!" Leena screeched, jumping up and down in joy, her voice as loud as ever.

Nikki rolled his eyes. "Look, wench. I'll sign yer friggin' underwear if you shut up...." he said sarcastically, extremely annoyed.

"Really??" Leena asked excitedly.

"Um.... we need to get him to a doctor first...." Serge said, sighing deeply.

"What? Oh, right! Let me help!" Leena said, taking up Nikki's other side, much to the bard's chagrin.

Both Serge and Leena helped Nikki back to Arni Village, Serge as silent as ever, and Leena prattling like a broken music box. Nikki thinly disguised his disgust of the girl, and kept looking over at Serge, who was studiously ignoring both Leena and Nikki.

Nikki sighed. Women... They ruin all my fun..... he thought grumpily.

Nikki was resting quietly on the bed he had been given. He had been given the Brace element to heal his sprained ankle, as well as a spare room in Serge's mother's house. Marge was more than happy to help the young man out, and ordered her son to help Nikki out while she went out for supplies.

Nikki was rather enjoying being spoiled like this, even after the Brace element had taken effect. Other than a little pain, he was fine, and by tomorrow he would be good as new.

The rock singer was now listening to the sounds of Leena's shrill voice screeching Serge about necklaces and autographs on her underwear. Nikki winced, not wanting to touch the bossy girl. Whatever Serge said could not be heard upstairs, but Leena's screechy voice was quite audible. She seemed to leave in a huff after a few minutes of debate, the door slamming downstairs.

Serge came up after a little while, holding a tray of food. Nikki sat up and smiled. "Hey.... Thanks...." Nikki said, taking the food gratefully. Serge nodded in response.

Nikki looked up, realizing Serge was still standing there, staring at him. "Um... Need something....?" he asked slowly.

"Do you dream about me...?" Serge asked slowly, his voice always so quiet.

"I... do.... And you...?" Nikki asked.

"I dream about.... you... and a girl with a blonde ponytail.... And a harlequin... and knights.... And so many others...." Serge said, gazing at Nikki intently.

"Me too....." Nikki said quietly. "Tell me...."

Serge told the pretty man about all of his dreams. Nikki shared his with Serge. Both of their dreams seemed to be about the same adventure. They laughed and talked, recounting dreams that seemed almost memories.

"Well, it's nice to see the two of you are friends... And Serge, Leena seems very upset with you. You need to straighten that girl out. Tell her one way or another about your relationship.... Stop stringing her along...." Marge said from the doorway, causing both men to jump in surprise.

"I... I will..." Serge sighed, getting up. "See you later, Nikki..."

Nikki sighed again. "Later.... Serge....." he sighed as both Serge and his mother disappeared.

Why do women always have to ruin my fun?

Nikki was just waking up when his door opened and Serge walked in, looking pleased. Nikki blinked, not bothering to cover the fact that he slept nude.

Serge gaped, blushed and then spun around. "I... um... sorry... I... uh... just wanted to invite you to the beach...." Serge stammered.

Nikki grinned. "Sounds great... I'll bring the weed....." he offered.

Serge glanced back, staring at Nikki. "Uh... If you want...." he said.

"Just us two...?" Nikki asked, still grinning.

"Um... yeah....."

"Rockin'!!!" Nikki grinned, standing up.

"I'll... see you later... When you're ready...." Serge said quickly, running out of the room.

Nikki grinned. This time... no woman is going to ruin my fun..... he thought.

A rather odd pair they seemed, traveling to Opassa Beach.

A small, blue-haired youth, dressed in colorful clothing. And a tall, thin, red-haired young man wearing outlandish clothing. Serge was carrying a cooler, and Nikki had the towels, and camping supplies.

Nikki set the supplies down and began to set up camp. Serge started up the campfire.

Nikki stripped to his thong, and Serge to his bathing trunks. Serge gaped at Nikki's bathing attire, and quickly turned away.

Serge headed into the surf. "C'mon, Nikki... Let's go fishing....." he said, gripping his hunting knife in his teeth as he dove in.

Nikki blinked and shrugged, following Serge into the water....

The water flowed around him.... It was another world... A blue world.....

He could feel the currents running past him... He could smell the water...

He was breathing it.

Nikki moved in the water, like he was part of it... Gone was the spaced out man who lived only for drugs, music, and a little fun. This was real life. Here in the water....

In the sea.

He could see Serge just ahead, hunting, fishing, going back for air, and coming back to catch more fish. Serge was part of the sea. He had come from it.

And so had Nikki.

He stayed there, in the water, swimming around the coral reef, listening to the beautiful sounds of the sea. Time was lost in the sea. It had no meaning anymore. There was just the sea.

And then his world was disturbed, and he was yanked back to the surface....

"Nikki?"

"Nikki!"

"Nikki, can you hear me??"

Nikki opened his dark blue eyes, blinking in the moonlight.

"Nikki! Man, am I glad that you're alright! You were in the water for hours and hours... I couldn't get you out... I thought you'd drowned...." Serge said frantically, hovering over Nikki.

"I... can't drown...." Nikki said quietly, sitting up. He felt lost and disoriented, ripped from his blue world....

"What...?" Serge blinked, his hand on Nikki's shoulder to steady the beautiful rock singer.

"I can breathe water....." Nikki said simply, his deep blue eyes turning to Serge's.

Serge blinked, digesting this information. He believed Nikki. He didn't know why, but he did.

Serge was convinced Nikki was not entirely human.....

"Serge....? Do you..... believe me...?" Nikki asked tentatively.

"......... Yes," Serge said quietly.

Nikki smiled a little, not even realizing he had held his breath. He wanted Serge's belief... Serge's understanding.... He wanted Serge.

Serge smiled a little back, gazing into Nikki's eyes.

Nikki leaned in a little, his face very near to Serge's. Serge didn't withdraw, just looking into the lovely bard's eyes.

Nikki opened his mouth ever so slightly, his dark lips touching Serge's very pale ones. Serge opened his mouth, welcoming the touch, as Nikki's mouth enveloped Serge's. Serge pressed back into Nikki's thin frame, feeling arms wrap around him. Nikki leaned Serge back, pressing him into the sand as he kissed him, their tongues sliding against each other.

Serge shuddered as Nikki's hands slid against his bare chest, the long fingers sliding against his smooth skin. Nikki grinned and withdrew from the kiss to lap at Serge's sensitive nipples. Serge arched up against Nikki, gasping in surprise at the stimulation.

"Serge!!!! Where are you, Serge!! I can't believe you went to the beach without me, you big jerk!!!"

Nikki paused and winced as Leena's shrill voice pierced the warm summer night air. Serge gasped, this time not in pleasure, and pushed the rock singer off of him. Nikki fell back into the sand, a look of intense irritation on his face.

"Serge!! There you are!!! And you're having a beach party without me!?! How could you!?!" the bossy redhead demanded of the sapphire haired boy, her hands on her hips, and her foot tapping.

"Errr..... We... uhhh..." Serge stammered, his face turning red.

"And why haven't you even started cooking the fish?? I can't believe you boys..." Leena huffed, picking up Serge's cast-aside net full of fish.

Serge began to set up for cooking, casting an apologetic look at Nikki.

Nikki sighed and huddled in the sand, feeling incredibly frustrated.

Why do women always have to ruin my fun? I swear, I will get Serge, if it's the last thing I do!!

To be continued......
