FINGER PLAY!

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed
(Begin with 5 fingers splayed and palm away from you, bouncing hand to rhythm of verse...)
Five little monkeys
Jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head (hold up one finger, then rub head)
Mommy called the doctor
and the doctor said,
"NO MORE MONKEYS JUMPING ON THE BED!"
(Index finger out, shaking in chastising manner)
Four little monkeys... etc.

Homemade crayons are perfect for little hands.


What you need:

nontoxic crayon pieces
masking tape
large sheets of paper
sheets of sandpaper
disposable muffin tin


What to do together:

Make special crayons for your baby age 15 months and older. Remove the paper from old, broken nontoxic crayon pieces and place the pieces in a muffin tin. Put the tin in a warm oven (with the heat off) to melt. Let them cool and pop them out of the tin. You can make single color and rainbow crayons — perfect for a toddler’s small hands.

Give your toddler different-size, -shape, and -texture papers to draw on. If you slip a piece of sandpaper under a paper, your child will be delighted by the effect she gets when she rubs a crayon over the surface. (Remember: Don’t expect your little one to do this activity for long.)
