Hardcore Shoot 20 w/ New Scott

1. You are very well known to the internet wrestling world as the number one Maritime Wrestling reporter and premier local tape trader, but to the boys (wrestlers) do you feel they view you as a "reporter", "just another mark" or "a friend"? And why?

Well that would depend on who you ask I guess. I would like to be known as a friend to boys more than anything. I don't really consider my self a reporter other than the interviews I don't really do anything else. If I were a reporter I could go on for days and days with what I know and see, but if I did that I wouldn't be a friend, my main goal is to gain the respect of the boys.

2. Are you to scared to train as a wrestler?

I wouldn't say that I am scared to train. I just don't think it would be for me. I think that everybody has a place in this business, mine just happens to be filming which I love doing more than anything else. I have never been one to back down from anything one of the boys wanted to try or do in the ring. I just have too much respect for what you guys do to go in there mess it up.

3. New Scott Dot Com has become a very popular site since the days of Halifax Extreme Wrestling, what is the single element that makes it so popular to this day?

Ahhh good old Halifax Extreme Wrestling. Well I started that site before I knew anyone in the business that I do today. It was just something I did for fun, then on a road trip Steen had an idea for me to make a Maritime Wrestling site so I did. I think the fact that I keep it updated with a lot of bio's from current Maritime stars, I add new interviews quite often, and I started something called wrestle-pool which a lot of people enjoy is what keep people coming back. Plus the fact it is the only Maritime Wrestling Info site on the internet helps too.

4. Your shoot interviews have become quite popular for the trouble they cause among the boys. Do you feel you are taking advantage of legitimate heat that should be kept in the back for hits on your website?

If the people that I interview didn't want to say anything they wouldn't. All I do is ask the question. I usually ask them before hand if there is anything they want me to stay away from, 99% of them say no.

5. Name your favorite Indy federation in Canada and the reasons why it is superior in your eyes.

Well I can't really answer this because I don't have one. I enjoy watching all the Indy Canadian promotions I have tape of. The answer would have been Real Action Wrestling but they don't run anymore. The R.A.W. 2001 roster was probably the best roster ever assembled in Canada.

6. Who was your best shoot interview and why? Who was your worst and why?

Mike Hughes is always a great interview, Chi Chi Cruz was awesome. But the one that stands out the most has to be the essay that Scott Savage wrote about Taylor in my name association.

7. You have become friends with such wrestlers as Scott Savage and Lincoln Steen. Do you feel this creates conflict when you are reporting the facts of a match or a promotion they work for? In other words do you play favorites?

I have been friends with those two for a while now, they respect what I say, they always ask me straight out what I though about there match and if anything looked bad or what looked great, and I think if I wasn't honest with them with them it would do more harm than good.

8. Do you feel you would have a place in wrestling 50 years ago?

If people were taping shows back then I think I would.

9. Kayfabe - what does it mean to you?

I respect what goes on backstage at a show to keep it there. I feel the only part of wrestling that should be reported is the show it's self.

10. Do you have heat with anyone? If it came down to it would you settle it like a man or just avoid that person?

I don't have any heat with anyone anymore that I know of, there was one person but we worked that out, and I didn't run away from him, sure I was more scared of this guy than I had ever been of anyone else in my life, but we talked it out and as far as I know everything is ok now.

11. Have you worked your way onto the indy wrestling scene or simply sucked up to the "boys" by providing them with tapes and drives to shows?

I'd like to think I have worked my way in, or I should say I am still working my way in. I don't just go to the shows and sit there, I help set up the ring, tear down the ring and whatever else is asked of me. I try to be a team player just like everyone else.

12. MSW is often referred to as backyard, RAW has ripped off its workers, and ACW has been rumored to have cheated its boys as well. Can Maritime wrestling recover from this sort of behavior?

MSW is often referred to as backyard because of it's former association with guys like Sledge Hammer Spike, but Devin has learned from that mistake and I think that they have come a long way from those days. What happened with R.A.W. struck a lot of the boys hard, I even read in Vance Nevada's commentary that he "contemplate his future in this business" over what happened. I think that Maritime Wrestling will recover it may take awhile but hopefully for everyone involved things will come around full circle once again.

13. NWA TNA - X Division is known for its high spots and workers that most fans don't get to see very often. When all is said and done what will TNA be known for?

I enjoy that fact that I get too see different workers. As far as what will be said when TNA is all said and done, I guess your trying to say that you don't think that TNA will last I personally hope it does, so hopefully we will never know.

14. Back to MSW. Is it backyard or legitimate? Name the bright points and low points in your opinion.

If it were backyard I don't think Morgan or your self would be anywhere near an MSW ring. The bright points would be that there guys never give up no matter how much criticism they take, they really want to make MSW work. The low points might be they don't have a lot of big guys but I think the Maritimes is the only place in Canada where if your not 6'5" 275lbs they don't consider you a wrestler. I mean look at Scott Savage he is about 6'0" and 200 lbs and he puts on as good a match as anyone I have seen work here. Then look at Marco Estrata that is one small wrestler, but the guy was amazing in the ring at the first UCW show. There is also Vinny Gylde & Cinder who can put on just as good a match as any big man in the Maritimes.

15. Lets get your opinion on the Ontario Wrestling Scene.

I haven't seen much Ontario wrestling, I have come into contact with a few workers from Ontario, but for the most part they have treated me the same as everyone else, so I don't really have a problem with it from my perspective. But from the stories I have heard lately there is more problems in Ontario with ego's and attitudes than any other place in this country, but that's just what I heard.

16. Rookie of the year in the Maritimes - Scott Phoenix, Tony Armstrong, Cinder or Vinny Glyde and why?

This a very close one to call. I'm going to have to go with Cinder with everything he went through in R.A.W. last summer, and to still have such a great attitude that means a lot.

17. Give me your thoughts on RF Video.

As tape seller he has been very successful, how I have no idea, I have never seen a good quality R.F. Video tape ever. As far as his Ring of Honor promotion goes I really enjoy it, I like his "code of honor".

18. If you were to start the New Scott Wrestling Federation today, what would you do different from MSW, RAW, and ACW? Name the top 10 guys you would use.

This is probably the hardest question you asked. Well I think probably is running the same town too much is what hurts a lot of promotions, I think one show for each town you hit every 3 weeks should be good, that way you don't dry up the market and you keep people wanting more. As for booking I would leave that up too someone that knows what they are doing guys like Vance Nevada & Mike Hughes. As for the roster there are so many names to choose from. You'd have to half a balanced roster, you can't have all big guys, but you can't have all small guys either. .Also I would stick with names that are familiar to Maritime Fans but as a regular roster I think these guys would be good, Vance Nevada, Bobby Rude, Mike Hughes, Kingman, Gary Williams, Lincoln Steen, Scott Savage, Vinny Glyde, Cinder & Sweet Sarah.

19. Do wrestling legends draw in the Maritimes? Would Jimmy Snuka vs. King Kong Bundy sell out the Metro Center or not even fill the Forum MPC?

I don't think you'd fill the Metro Center but I think out would draw a good size crowd at the Halifax Forum, not the MPC, the actual Forum. If advertised right you would draw more of the older fans than you would know what do with.

20. Opinion of the following: (can be more then one word)

Devin Chittick - Devin gave me my first real start at taping wrestling shows. I will always be very grateful for that. He works extremely hard to make MSW a solid respectable promotion.

Morgan Storm - Very nice

Magnus - Second biggest guy I have seen.

Matt Henstock - Big Fan

Cathy Yetman - Has done wonders to help me and my site, a great friend.

Dice - Is considered a joke to most workers in the Maritimes.

Jerry Martell - Loves the inside roof of my car. I am learning a lot from you. Thank You.

Shawn Morgan - Spent a lot of time in closet when he lived in the Maritimes. Rubbed a lot of people the wrong way while he was here.
