The Knight's Dream
Half past dusk it is quiet now.
Tomarrow may be the last for some
But they say the results...
are for the good of all.
I guess it is, that I cannot deny.
But knowing that you may face
that well known character in black
can bring sudden chills from your stong exterior.
Now I hit the hay
Knowing that I may succumb.
Tis dawn now as I hear the sounds of men
preparing for battle with such speed.
Soon those gates would open
and our forces would march forward
to confront the opposition on the field.
At last we dress our ranks
and I and my horse stand in the front line.
Five hundred others in my brigade
I see our commander five horses down and in front.
There is a mixture of worried and hardened stares
from the men on both my side and the other.
Though here we are, ready to fight
to protect the ones we love with all our heart.
I glance back to see the General as he walks by
about two feet away trotting between the troops
followed by his three subordinates.
He moves in front of us all
raising his sword above the crowd.
There is silence now on eitherside
It is so quiet I can hear the archers behind
The silence ends with the the downward strike
of the General's beautiful sword as the arrows set flight
We still stand here as if waiting to be dropped
by the stray arrows shot from beyond.
But yet I wait here, my comrades beside.
I can hear a few spearmen yell as they are struck
Not to mention a few whinnies of the horses
of the many other knights in my brigade.
Then the waited second
came with the comand to charge.
We are the first to arrive
as mighty clashes of weapons
could be heard near and far.
It is near luncheon now
the battle drags on.
I can see that our numbers have decreased
But so has the opposition.
Many lives have been lost
as I watch with great agony
My countrymen die right beside me
though I continue to fight as I ride through
the many spear, sword, and maces that strike at me so.
The good news I thought was the archers all depleted.
As I parried a spear that came from behind.
My foe had been blocked and now has cold steel
running through his heart.
I can soon tell both sides are exhausted
as I see our own General being rushed by five men.
There is no one nearby so I rush to his aid.
But I am to late as he is soon slain.
With much revenge and anger I ride on quite strong.
The five men became zero as I battered them all down.
I see in the distance the five others that are left.
Two of them mine, the others are not.
Soon my fellows fall, but not without the others.
Now there are two...
Me and the opposing last horseman.
We charge at each other with swords held at the ready
The blades are locked as we never stop striking.
A hilt to the head and I am off my horse.
He charges once more as I slash at his steed.
He soon flies forward as the horse trips and falls.
One final push is all I need.
However my sword is now broken as the knight charges.
I look down and see the general's body
with his beautiful sword laying right beside.
I grasp it quickly as the man nears,
but he is soon halted as I impale him deep within.
he slides off the sword, though it was not my own
but still I rise claiming it in my scabbard.
I look over at the castle of stone.
It was unscathed and that I was proud of.
I walked to my horse and rode back to the gates.
They opened as the people rejoiced at my victory.
Even His Majesty himself lent me his hand off my horse
though I did not hesitate to take my knee.
I did not die after all and as happy as I was...
I awoke soon in my bed of straw and cloth.
Tomarrow is the day as I close my eyes and return to sleep.
