Basics

Like Crescent Moon, I acquired the first volume of Vampire Game while waiting for the next volume of Fruits Basket to come out. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it, because it was much different from other manga I read. I couldn't wait to go back to Waldenbooks and buy as many other volumes as I could with the funds I had at the time.

If you talk to Katy, she'll tell you that she doesn't like the way the necks are drawn, that they are too long. ^^ I don't know, I kind of like them. And the rest of the drawing style is really pretty. That's all, I have nothing to add. I just like to look at the pictures. ^^; Hooray for eye candy! ^^

Story

The story centers on a young princess named Ishtar and a kitten she rescues one day after his mother is killed. The kitten is actually the reincarnation of the vampire Duzell, the enemy of Ishtar's great-grandfather Phelios. Phelios defeated Duzell, but they both died in the process, and Duzell swore to get revenge. The story surrounds Duzell and Ishtar's quest to find the reincarnation of Phelios and kill him (Ishtar is not so fond of the tale of Phelios, which has been beaten into her head since she was young...and she also isn't very fond of her family, who are trying to make her marry one of the princes of the family in order to strengthen the bloodline).

The problem is that Ishtar is in love with Darres, an imperial guard who has protected her since she was a small child. She knows she can't ever marry him, but she loves him all the same. She wants Duzell to kill Phelios's reincarnation so that she will be free to be with Darres.

This series is very intriguing, and most of the characters are fascinating. The royal family is very screwed up; three of the princes are not what they seem at all, one princess learns something shocking about the man she loves, and everyone is surprised when they discover the identity of another of the princes! Vampire Game is full of plot twists and humor at every turn.

Overall

Basically, I recommend this to anyone (as long as references to homosexuality don't offend you...and if they do, sorry, but you might not want to read/watch ANYTHING that I do). I mean, even my brother liked it (minus the aforementioned parts). It's one of the greatest manga series I've ever read. I can't wait to read the next volume.
