The Pteras was the product of many failed atempts by the Republic to create a aerial Zoid like the extinct ones of the past. It was the pride of the Republic for a short time as it rained bullets on helpless Imperial squadrons. But the Empire unleashed the ferocious Reddra at the same time, and the Republican Pride crashed to the ground, overwhelmed by the "Sky Dragon's" superior speed. But the Republic presisted, and devolped the Ptera Striker and Petra Bomber, which dominated the Reddras and now more popular Redlers in shear firepower and numbers. As with the Salamander, the Pteras main weakness is it's wings, which are fragile and will snap if such stunts as sharp turns and barrel-rolls are performed. While it may not hold up to the modern Raynos or Storm Sworder, the Pteras is still a reliable and well-balanced Zoid.
