Before the creation of the Gun Sniper, the Cannon Tortoise was the Republic's long range support. Designed only to be a mobile mortar launcher, the Zoid is outfitted with a mortar cannon that makes up about a fourth of it's total weight. Even through it was considered a sniper of sorts, the Cannon Tortoise didn't have the targeting equipment of the Gun Sniper or Snipe Master, so it could only fire blindly and litter the field with mortar shells. To compensate for it's slow speed, the Tortoise packs about as much armor as a Gustav, so it can protect itself from the short range attacks it is a prime target for. Even for it's lack of speed, the Cannon Tortoise is a powerful Zoid backing some of the best offense and defense in the Republic army.
