| This pairing is probably my favorite in the
entire series, and is the interaction about which the story revolves
around.
Shuichiro is a 30 year old doctor who one day comes
upon what he thinks is a baby in a tree: and saves it from a crow, who
turns out to be one of the Devil's minions. This "baby" turns
out to be Kohaku, one of God's favorite angels, and to pay back the
favor of his rescue, Kohaku asks Shuichiro what wish he could grant for
him.
Shuichiro says he has no wish he cannot grant himself,
and in desperation, Kohaku begs to be allowed to stay with him until he
finds one: Shuichiro agrees. Over the course of the next few weeks,
Kohaku finds himself being saved more and more often by Shuichiro, and
their relationship grows closer and closer, despite interferences,
become close.
When Kohaku is taken away, Shuichiro abruptly comes to
his senses about what he truly feels, and manages to snag an earring
before the angel completely disappears. Although they are reunited,
their happiness is short lived. Kohaku, punished by God, is sentenced to
a century in miniature: far below the towering heights of Shuichiro.
Their relationship is further complicated when Shuichiro apparently
drops dead (literally) in front of her! Despite this, Kohaku agrees to
wait for him, and a century must pass before we see them again. |

One hundred years later, a reincarnated
16-year-old Shuichiro arrives at his now ancestral home, only to find
Kokuyo and Hisui still inhabiting the same house! Hisui has a nifty new
hairstyle, but Kokuyo looks--and acts--exactly the same. Shuichiro, it
appears, is as anti-social as ever, but they don't try to stop him when
he goes into the yard, and the Wisteria tree. At the sign of his presence,
Kohaku immediately appears at full size, and Shuichiro is surprised that
he [Kohaku] has been waiting so long.
Initially reluctant, Shuichiro soon warms up to Kohaku,
and this new relationship is a kinder, gentler relationship, as both
parties now have knowledge of their feelings. Kohaku asks to stay with
him forever, and he agrees, and surprises her in turn by asking, as his
Wish, although he phrases it as a question, saying, "You're going
to be with me forever aren't you?"
As we leave WISH, all parties are healthy, happy, and
most of all...
Together. |
