Spike's cg tutorial ^___^

wooo this page is for spike's cg tutorial for cel shading in photoshop. i tried to make this as painless as possible but some of the stuff is still kinda boring. cging isn't difficult, but it takes a lot of paitience and dedication.
first what you want to do is open up your lineart in photoshop. then get your layers/ chnnels window open. drag the background over to the new layer.

this will make a background copy, throw out the original background.

now rename the background copy, name it outline for now. you should name all of your layers, it may not seem important but it will help greatly when you have 20+ layers.

next you need to make a new layer, name this one background for now. get the paint bucket and paint it white. now go into the channels menu and click the little dotted line circle on the left this will make dotted lines all around your lineart, now hit delete, this should make your lines lighter.

now deselect the lines and go back to the layers. lock the transparency on the outline. now get a big brush and pick a color you want your lines to be, with the transparency locked you wont color on anything but the lines. when you're starting out, just use black, but later on you can color your lines other colors to create a nice effect.

now make a new layer, pick what you want to color, i like to color hair first.

now select that layer and get your polygonal lasso tool. go around ans select the hair, try to select in the middle of your lines. this is a very dull process, you will spend a good portion of time selecting the lines, but it makes doing base color easy as hell.

once you select the hair, take a big brush, pick a color you want and color color color! the color won't go anywhere except where you select ^__^

make a new layer for each color. go arond, pick colors that look nice and compliment eachother. i sort of picked these as i went along, but they look ok. anyway, that's how to do base color, it looks sorta ok, but we can do much better than that.

this page is still under construction, i'll finish the tutorial soon ^____^
