Megaman 2

Producer: Capcom
System: NES, Genesis, GameCube, Playstation 2

Year: 1988
The first Megaman game had been a big enough hit that Capcom decided to try it again. Actually, if you asked a group of gamers what their first Megaman game was, most would probably say "Megaman 2" (myself included). And for good reason too; Capcom seemed to take everything that made the first game so great, and made it better!

First of all, this is the only original series game to feature a difficulty setting. On the title screen, you have two choices; Normal and Difficult. Actually, the difficulty setting was only added to the American version of the game; the "Difficult" setting was the original Japanese version. The "Normal" mode is a ridiculously dumbed down version of the game. There are even three bosses that can be destroyed in just one hit; Woodman with a charged Atomic Fire, Metalman with his own wepaon in Wily's fortress, and Wily's first mech form also with a charged Atomic Fire. Even Difficult mode doesn't seem quite as hard as MM1, though.

Megaman also has a better selection of goodies in this game. After beating certain bosses, Dr. Light will give you special devices that can be used to get through tricky spots. There are even some portions late in the game where these gadgets are vital to your success.

The graphics are more or less the same as the first game, although there are some more detailed backgrounds, as opposed to the very plain ones from MM1.
