Producer: Square
System: GameBoy
Year: 1991
Overview: One of Square's Final Fantasy titles for GameBoy is a rather untraditional game for the series, more as though it were a cross between Final Fantasy and Zelda.
Story: An evil force is vying for the amazing powers of the legendary Mana Tree. Formerly a gladiator slave for the Dark Lord, the hero of our story escapes his castle and sets off to stop him.
Graphics: I have nothing bad to say about them. Pretty standard for an 8-bit FF game, which is pretty good.
Sound: Has some good-sounding songs, but the tinny GameBoy speakers don't do them justice.
Gameplay: This game plays more like a Zelda game than a Final Fantasy. Though instead of just a sword, there are a variety of weapons to equip. Some places you need a particular weapon to get by, and some enemies are only hurt by certain weapons. That's my only real annoyance with the game; it means you're constantly switching weapons. You still gain EXP in RPG style, and can learn various spells to cast.
Challenge: The challenge lies down the middle of the road, I'd say. It sometimes is easy to get lost, though.
Final Rating: (8/10) Most GameBoy RPGs were pretty bad, but FFAdventure is one of the few that isn't. Even if you have a GameBoy Advance, I'd still reccommend searching this game out if you haven't done so already.
