Overview: Castlevania’s SNES debut continues the series and keeps it going strong.
Story: This game seems to be almost a remake of the original Castlevania. Simon Belmont is once again the hero that sets out to stop Dracula, but the layout is much different, and the game is a lot bigger.
Graphics: For one of the first SNES games out there, this game sure had some damn good graphics. Nice to see Konami is continuing to push the envelope in this department.
Sound: If you’ve read what I had to say about the other games, there’s really no need fro me to say anything else.
Gameplay: Again, this game has a similar play style to CV1 and CV3, but with some differences. First of all, there’s no multiple paths, unfortunately. But the total amount of stages is pretty big. In fact. it might even be the longest of any Castlevania game. Simon has much better play control than the NES games. His jumps can be controlled better and he also has a couple of new abilities, such as spinning his whip around and snaring hooks with it to swing across gaps.
Challenge: I’d say its pretty moderate, although there’s still plenty of hairy spots. At least it still has a password.
Final Rating: 9/10 Not much else to say, other than that it’s a great game, even though it’s such an early SNES game.
