Digimon Tamers: U.S. vs Japan

Compared to other animes, Digimon is rather tame. There's little blood, and there's never been any sex or nudity (Well, okay, there sort of is some nudity, mostly during the evolution/fusion sequences in Tamers and Frontier, but you never see any genetalia...). There was some swearing (big whoop) and references to alcohol & tobacco (again I say: big whoop). Anyways, the dubbers, apparently wanting to maintain a mostly kiddie audience, still thought there were scenes that were too graphic for kids to watch, so many scenes got cut, or at least severly edited. Now, I think it's safe to say that your average Bugs Bunny episode has more graphic violence than a dubbed episode of Digimon. Here's where we look at these changes in detail.

Episode 3: Two shots were cut during the fight in the parking garage. First was when Renamon clawed at Galgomon's eyes, which drew a small amount of blood. Later in that scene, we see Galgomon's eyes scratched, but those with the dub have no idea how they got there. Second was the shots of Galgomon pointing his gun at Ruki.

Episode 26: When Ruki, Kenta, and Hirokazu emerge from the digital field, Hirokaku and Kenta are unconcious. Ruki put them together so it looks like they're kissing. Yeah, that scene was cut. Sailor Moon was notorious for editing homosexual relationships, but now we can't even vaguely suggest it. Are Americans that insecure with their sexuality? I guess so...

Episode 47: I actually can't confirm this, since I haven't seen the dubbed episode. I'm taking a shot in the dark here. In Juri's nightmare, she encounters a horrid phantom version of herself, complete with a sadistic-looking hand puppet. I assume this scene was cut out of fear it may be too scary, but I'm not 100% sure.
