The mysterious criminal organization that flourishes under the light law and relative weakness of the New Republic, Shade's existence is publicly denied by all government officials. His fascination with Ranma Saotome seems fairly obvious in its cause, but some still wonder if he doesn't have additional motives for his interest.

A high-ranking figure among Shade's naval forces, Boran has been diligent and cunning in his ascension in rank, as well as ruthless. Doing whatever it takes to get ahead, Boran's ambition and rage occasionally backfire on him, but for the most part he's remarkably successful in his endeavors. He is the most well acquainted with Gorgon, the space crime boss, and hates Ranma Saotome with a passion.
