AnimeFest 2001

Convention Report

Here is my official report for AnimeFest 2001. Well... I was only there Sunday and Monday, so I can't say too much.  ^_^;  It was my first con in Texas and was quite a bit of fun.  I did the wrong thing, however, at this convention.  And this is a major taboo for a lot of first-time con-goers.  Talk to people... Make friends.  Don't just walk around in a hypnotic type state.  I did that at AnimeFest and I regret it... I really do.  I could have met some of my friends a lot sooner if I hadn't walked around like a shy little four-year-old. ^_^;;  So, my suggestion for all of you first-time con-goers... or even people who are still doing this... DON'T  ^_^;; Make friends.  Especially with the dealers and security.  They have some really cool people.  Especially Dale of Dale's Planet Comics.  If he's ever at a con you're at, go up to him and say Hi.  Because Dale is really cool.  A couple other cool dealers whom were at Afest 2001, was Darrin and Sharon, I believe were their names.  Darrin is in a wheel chair and has real long hair and they both run a booth with original fanart prints.  Mostly they do art of Scott McNeil's drawings, and other characters from the shows he's done.  Like Transformers, Gundam Wing, Inu Yasha, etc...  In 2001 they had copies of a Duo Maxwell (Scott McNeil) and a Trowa Barton (Kirby Morrow) print.  Little did they know when they brought those that they'd be a big success and people would buy them for Scott and Kirby to sign.  ^_^  Which that was great, meeting Scott and Kirby for the first time.  I never have met Kirby again, but I'm not as big a fan of his as I am a fan of Scott's.  Scott was just great.  He was laughing and joking and just being a regular guy.  He wasn't acting like anything special.  He was just there to please the fans.  Some of his fans, however, got a little too... fanatic? ^_^;  I like to hope that I, on the other hand, treated Scott like a role-model, and a really cool guy, instead of a god.  I mean, of course I think he's all that and a bag of potato chips.  but I'm not telling him that. ;)

What else happened there?  Well, on Sunday, I walked around, visiting the Dealer's Room, peeked my head into a couple of the Video Rooms, which were HUGE that year!   I got Scott and Kirby's signatures on Sunday, and hung out with my then present bf.  (I've gone through like... 5 since then. O.o;;)  And I made one friend that year.  Just one!  His name is Kelly, and he's really awesome.  I remember waiting in line for the cosplay, and meeting him then.  We sat down and watched the cosplay together.  It was great.  There was some good cosplay skits that year too.  On Monday, I sat in on a panel that Scott and Kirby were in, which was a last minute-deal to cover up for some bad scheduling. ^_^;  I remember asking Scott and Kirby some embarrassing questions about the fan-version Yaoi-ness of the characters they did the voices for in Gundam Wing.  But it was all good.   It was a great convention and I was sad to go.  Especially since this con was the first and last time I got to see Kelly... he's gotten into major problems since. ~_~
