Synopsis: -Otomo's breakthrough film boasts an incredible pallete of talented artistry, as well as a decent array of fixated pyrotechnics; and many a great deal spaces of the realization encompassing "great sci-fi epic". Otomo transports us to the futuristic world of Neo Tokyo in the year 2018, 30 years after the hell's dawn of an awe-inspiring blast leveling the metropolis; the youth of the future runs rampant, beckoning the plight of the armed forces and the police to take violent action. "Kaneda" and "Tetsuo" are part of the young biker gangs wreaking havoc and often times great trouble through the inner-city. While nearly whisking themselves away from the nasty clutches of the "Clowns" gangsters, Tetsuo and Kaneda finds himself within a charade of violent undergoings, surrounding the occult esteem and torrent wasteland which surrounds the patterns of the police force, as well as the corrupt politicians and scientists crusading the arrest of the "Akira" powers which lay inside Tetsuo. To which his childhood friend Kaneda must come to the rescue. A group of lovable misfits and memorable characters encompass this classic, of science, angst, power and discovery into the deepest and darkest trenches of science fiction. While best known for it's groundbreaking production values and haunting soundtrack, Akira is mind-blowing, provoking cinema at its finest; which will undoubtedly leave its plethora of onlookers breathless and beyond. -S.C.
