| Additional Info: | Synopsis:-This foremost OAV installment of the popular Yuzo Takada's manga series follows the unusual journey of "Pai"; remaining decendant of an ancient "Sanjian Unkara" tribe, said in the narrative to have been lost over 600 years ago. Takada's sweeping epic (Which is far from finished upon the arrival of this single story), takes most of it's story credibility to ancient and modern China, emphasizing the many occult remnants of both Japanese and Chinese culture. Embodied clichés which now immortalize the common anime fandom fans have come to know as straight narratives. "3x3 Eyes: Immortals", a title which lends it's context to the unmistakable physical features of it's main characters, manages to save itself from a platitude of contrivity boasting some impressive effects and touching characterizations. The young man, "Yakumo" is a youth torn between his duties to Pai Bo the Sanjian and his ever-presently frustrating conundrums that supply his everyday youth. As a young High School student and potent martial artist, Yakumo encounters Pai via an unfortunate motorcycle accident. A series of events which undoubtedly lead to a mettle with Pai's seemingly ugly and hostile pet "walking-stick". After near fatal events, Yakumo is granted immortal powers by Pai. An ever present array into the dual personalities which plague Pai Bo, forces Yakumo into a world of love and deceit; as well as the unimaginable prophecies which Pai and him must account for. In this often moving but somewhat flawed fantasy narrative. While having noticably striking artwork and an above-average screenplay by Takada himself, 3x3 Eyes boasts a plethora of well-known English voice talents for the new and improved dub, including: "Christen Cambell", "Keith David", "Bridgitte Bako" & T.V. icon "Edward Asner". -S.C. |
