Spawn: In the Demon's Hand is a strange little game. This little gem has gone relatively unnoticed by the majority of videogamers. However, one day I was in my local Gamestop, and decided to pick it up for $8. Little did I know that this game would turn out to be one of the most played games in my entire Dreamcast collection.

For anyone who is a fan of the Spawn series, they will absolutely love the graphics. The artwork and character designs are very accurate to the actual comic series. The levels and characters are well-rendered, animate excellently, and are all very different from each other. The levels are some of the best designed that I have seen in a videogame. There are even galleries that you can open up, showing off the great artwork of the Spawn series. The only graphical glitch I can think of is the ocassional slowdown, which during gameplay is hardly noticable. The visuals are definitely a plus for this game.

The Spawn game has a great combat system. All of the characters in it are incredibly varied and allow for totally different techniques for combat. For example, Spawn IV uses double assault rifles while Grace uses lances and knives. Also, the gameplay is very frantic, due to excellent level design and the best radar of any game to date. Not only that, but the fighting system is very deep and skill based, requiring both technique and a knowledge of how to best use the moves that each character possesses. The fighting in this game takes place from a third-person view, which for the most part has good camera angles. The fact that there is a button that allows you to adjust it certainly helps. The targeting system is well-made, in that it is accurate and targets the character that you want to hit. The only flaws with the combat system are the relatively unbalanced characters, typical of most Capcom games, and the fact that the camera can occasionally be annoying. Besides these nuisances, Spawn has a great combat system that is incredibly fun to use.

In terms of modes, Spawn has a good amount. They range from tournament mode, which is basically a translation of the game from the arcade version, to the all-new and totally original boss attack mode. In tournament mode, you essentially go through multiple deathmatches against a set of opponents, while unlocking hidden galleries. Boss attack mode is much better, and the overall goal is to go through a variety of levels and fight off various minions in order to kill a boss. Suffice to say, this mode is excellent. This mode has a lot of replay, enabling you to unlock hidden items and characters. Besides these two modes, there are the typical deathmatch and team deathmatch modes, which are very well done and are incredibly fun. In terms of modes, the types of gameplay in Spawn scream quality.
