Grandia II

Grandia II is one amazing game. Every feature about it is great. Really, Grandia II is a classic RPG in every right. Read on to find out why.

Graphically, Grandia II is one of the prettiest RPG's out there. The spell effects are the best of any game, utilizing actual anime and CCG scenes in them. Believe me, the effects are incredible. Besides the effects, the characters are well designed and smooth looking. The towns are all very detailed and differentiate a lot from one another. The graphics, however, take the backseat to the incredible battle system, which is truly the star of the Grandia series.

Grandia II's battles are easily the best that I've seen in a RPG. The battle system combines both real-time and turn base elements and uses them to great effect, in that it creates the best RPG battle system around. Another great thing about the battles in this game is that there are no random battles, making it so that you can avoid battles when you want to. However, the battle system is so good that I find myself running into enemies in order to strengthen my group. Besides the battle system, exploring towns is typical RPG fare, meaning you interact with various characters in order to continue with the story. However, the one flaw with this game is its linearness, making it so that you can almost never branch off from the story and do side quests, which detracts from the game in my opinion. This minor flaw causes Grandia II to be a story driven RPG.

The story in Grandia II is excellent. The characters you meet are varying, ranging from a man-beast to an android. Also, the characters have a lot of personality, from the wise cracking Ryudo to the naive Elena. The plot, while deep and involving, is not all that original. However, that really doesn't hurt the excellent tale that Grandia II tells.

Grandia II is one of the best RPGs out there. The plot, gameplay, and graphics are all excellent. From the interesting characters to the excellent battle system, Grandia II is an all out great experience that every RPG fan should own.

Graphics Grandia II's graphics are some of the best out there. The spell effects are amazing, the characters are well designed and have a smooth-look, and the towns are both detailed and good-looking. Grandia II has some of the best graphics I've seen in an RPG. 9.7/10
Gameplay If you've played the original Grandia, you'll have an idea of what the gameplay in Grandia II is like. The battle system in Grandia II is both deep and fun, and it even makes you want to fight monsters in order to build up your party. Also, the fact that there are no random battles is also a plus. Grandia II has the best battle system of any RPG and this serves to make the Grandia II experience more enjoyable. 9.6/10
Story Grandia II has one amazing story. The wise-cracks and jokes made by your main character are downright hilarious, and the rest of the supporting cast has a lot of personality as well. Also, characters change and develop over the course of the game, which is quite cool. The plot is excellent, and is definitely a driving force in the game. One of the strongest points in the game. 9.6/10
Replay Grandia II really doesn't have much replay. Why is this you ask? This is due to the fact that the gameplay is too linear, never really allowing you to deviate from the story. This is good for keeping the player involved in the story, but in terms of giving the game longevity, it just hurts the game. 5.0/10
Overall Graphically, gameplay-wise, and plotwise Grandia II is exceptional. It really has no major flaws. The only nit-pick I have with this game is its linearness, which hampers its replay value, but at the same time increases the enjoyment of the plot. Basically, Grandia II is a worthy game to add to anyone’s collection, even someone that is not a fan of RPGs. 9.5/10
