Two Sides To A Coin

disclaimer: I do not own Inu-Yasha nor do I own Ayumi Hamasaki’s song “Duty.” I don’t own any of those things, if you sue me you’ll most likely get nothing.

Author's Note: This is just something that I just wrote in five minutes, what can I say if it sucks? I was bored darn it!

Out there in the middle of a dark cold forest, a lonely fire slowly eats away it’s hearth as it warms a group of five from the bitter cold. Everyone lays asleep but one, a girl in her school uniform still stirs ignoring the beckoning of rest. She stares at the flame intently as she’s lost in deep thought.

“I don’t even know how I got into this. I Higurashi Kagome am stuck in the past searching for the fragments of the Shikkon No Tamma! This thing has been nothing but trouble since I’ve had it.” Kagome speaks to herself as she rubs the jewel between her fingers. “Since then we’ve been attacked by monsters, few have even followed me home to my time period to try to get it. I feel pretty awful for putting my family in such danger!”

Everyone is convinced

That that “Thing” they’re searching

for is in the future.

But how many people have realized

That “It” is actually in the past?

I can’t even guess.

Elsewhere in a different location but under the same sky, a lonely priestess sits at nearby lake looking at the moon’s reflection while being warped by the ripples of the water. With a look of hate in her eyes as she remembers an affair that occurred fifty years ago. Ever since she’s been restored to life all she could think of was a certain half demon that betrayed her love and left a deep gash in her heart.

“How could you do this to me, Inu-Yasha? I once loved you, I trusted and believed all your lies. I guess it was my foolishness that put me into my grave, now I have a second chance. I won’t rest until I take you to hell with me ending this chapter of time.” The priestess Kikyo swore to herself with cold eyes.

I saw the end of an era

With my own eyes.

But I didn’t want to know

That it was my turn next.

“Elder sister! Elder sister! We need to get you some help!” Kikyo remembered a young girl cry.

“No, this is it for me. Soon my life will come to an end, little Kaede promise me to burn my body with this wretched jewel.” Kikyo said with her voice breaking and bolld streamed down from her shoulder.

From a distance impaled on a tree a body of a boy with dog ears standed motionless with an arrow in his heart. He hoped to steal the jewel to become more powerful, but was stopped in his tracks when Kikyo shot him with her enchanted arrow. Kikyo took one last breath, her vision became blurred as she collapsed and died.

“Elder sister!!!!!!” The young Kaede screeched in horror of watching her sister die.

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Coming back to the present, Kikyo let out a sigh of frustration. “You’re the reason I can’t rest. Not until I sink my nails into your flesh will I be happy. I’ll make sure that not only you, but that child Kagome suffer as well.”

A sharp and eerie chill rolls down Kagome’s back as she shivers and rubs her hands up and down her arms to keep warm. She doesn’t know why but can’t help getting worried. But for the moment she shrugs it off and turns her sight at the sleeping Inu-Yahsa. It amazes her that as he’s awake he’s brash and dangerous, but looks gentle and angle-like while in the state of slumber.

“Inu-Yasha, why can’t you choose me or her? Do you not want me around is that it?”

If, after simplifying it

A bit more, you would think that “IT”

Merely connects and arranges memories,

Then wouldn’t everyone

Already have “IT”?

I want you to realize that.

I saw the end of an era

With my own eyes.

And in truth, I actually

Do know that it’s my turn next.

Kikyo slowly contemplates what to do next time she were to meet Inu-Yasha. How she’s going to make him suffer and regret what he’s done to her. Her concentration was broken when a small brown birdccame and landed on her finger. She places the bird on the palm of her hand and lets it stand there. Slowly her fingers wrap around the bird’s tiny body and slowly begins to throttle the life from it’s body. Good and slow making sure it dies slowly.

“Inu-Yasha, like this bird I’ll crush you in the palm of my hands begging me for mercy. But I can wait, wait for you to come to me.”

You’ll find me, won’t you?

I’m betting that

You’ll find me.

But when it comes down to it, Kagome is Kikyo and Kikyo Kagome, two faces on the same coin. As the two girls sit up and just putter the night away several various thoughts brew in their minds, those thoughts revolve around the same boy who made a big effect on their lives; Inu-Yasha. As fierce as the wind blows and no matter how far they are from each other, they are one in the same. Slowly the camp fire blows out and dies and the two girls continue to stay awake until finally sleep had ultimately taken over.

I saw the end of an era

With my own eyes.

But I didn’t want to know

That it’s my turn next.

THE END.
