Charming Knight

If you are not jealouse out of whatever reason (since there are tons of them!) you must love him!

Allan Schezar is such complex personality that I would have to write a book to describe him but I will try to do that in few paragraphs. Let me also WARN you of SPOILERS in section.

As we first meet Allen he is just dashing swordsman with tons of charm and reputation of a playboy. And then you think - oh great, just another macho with sword and great look! But that is everything but truth (except that about  great looks).

Deep inside, beneath the surface with dashing smile, there is hurt little boy, lost and lonely.

When Allen was around 13 his father left the family. Allan of course hates his father from that moment. When his little sister desapears and his mother dies few months latter totally crushed Allan leaves family estate and joins the bandit gang. There he meets Vargas who pulls him out of the emotional mess he is in by giving him sword lessons. Soon Allan comes to Palas, main city of Asturia and wining a tournament becomes a Caeli Knight.

During his stay in the palace as one of royal guard romance blossoms between him and princess Marlene, few years older then himself.

But this love was impossible and time comes when Marlene has to marry Duke of Freid. Night before she leaves for Freid she and Allan spent together.

I find it quite ironic that Allan was the one to tell her: 'Its time to leave princess...' (from Millerna's flashbacks in 12th episode)

(its maybe not clear but that is ^ Marlene in wedding gown walking past Allan while boarding to the ship which will take her to Freid)

And 9 months later Marlene gives a birth to a baby boy with sky blue eyes...

There are theories that Allan has become an playboy because he was devasted with the lost of Marlene but its not a fact, maybe he was a playboy even before they meet?

Then there is Millerna - mirror image of her sister Marlene, but just image. Its evident that Allen is drawn to Millerna but, as Eries says, its only because she resembles Marlene.

Finally trough all that flirting nothing happens between Allen and Millerna, but new girl apears in his life - Hitomi!  Trough first 19 episodes the two of them 'fight' for Allen. Yet after a romantic kiss on the bridge (in episode 19 ) and proposal somehow they break up and non of them doesn't seem to be sorry about that, which means they never truly loved each other.

I think Allen was interested in Hitomi only because she was different and, as many other also noted, she probably reminds him of his long lost sister.

And in the shadows trough everything that happens there is Eries, standing beside Allan when he need her.

At the end Allan reunites with Serena, his sister, whom he find by the end of  Escaflowne without any romantic relation.
