A New Moon Comes
By Dale Speer & Angela Brown
Dale was sitting at his computer, working on an internet project. He was tall and very slender for his being 20 years old... but his interest in Shoujo Anime surprised many of his friends in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle. This night he was working on The Moonlight Realm, a shrine site for his favorite anime series Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.
On her laptop computer across the country a young woman was shopping for massage oils. She had just recently graduated from Massage Therapy school, and was seeing what types she wanted. The woman, a 20 year old blonde, looked over when she saw a friend of hers come online. Sandra grinned and messaged him with a typical japanese greeting... "Ohayo Gozaimasu, Mamo-chan!" she typed.
Dale saw the window pop up and smiled at her. His picture wasn't of himself, but of the actor from PGSM who played Tuxedo Kamen. "Ohayo, Usako," he replied back, "Ogenki desu ka." Sandra replied that she was well and asked him how he was. "Doing okay," he replied, "I'm working on one of my personal projects before getting back to my costume for Kumoricon."
"My costume for Anime USA is ready and am looking on getting some massage oils." she replied. "You only taking one with you?" "No," he replied, "I've got a few of my Sentai Costumes that I'm taking with me, including Go-On Red and Sasuke's jacketed outfit for the occasion."
Sandra giggled and told him that she had Go-On Yellow's battle and civilian costume, along with Neo-Queen Serenity's dress. "The one I'm going to debut is a classic modified from an existing outfit," Dale replied, "Tuxedo Kamen." "Awesome!" she replied. "You going to be online even during the Con?" she asked him.
"The hotel has WiFi spread throughout," Dale replied, "So of course I will be. My only wish is that I could see you there... I would very much love to meet you in person." "As would I, Mamo-chan. As would I." Sandra said with a soft smile on her face. "If it is meant to be, we will meet someday."
But little did Sandra, or Dale, know that they would meet very soon. And when they did, their true forms would be revealed, and Destiny would begin to unfold in both their lives.
Dale arrived for Kumoricon the night before to be ready for opening ceremonies. He pre-registered at the first shot it went online, and came prepared with his costumes... which also included a few others in his garment bag. He came downstairs the next morning for those ceremonies dressed as MegaBlack- which surprised many of the convention staff because they only knew him as Adam Park. Once he explained, the convention staff was happy to show him off.
And elsewhere in the same convention, a young woman was dressed as MegaPink, and just happened to run into Dale, as Black, while he was roaming the halls. She approached him and said "Ohayo, Endou-kun." she said from beneath her helmet. "Miku-chan, ohayo!" he replied, "I'm surprised there's others here that enjoy sentai like me." The young woman nodded her head as she replied, "A friend of mine got me into it. I was hooked immediately."
"May I ask your name, ojou-chan?" he asked. "Atashi wa Sandra. Anata wa?" she asked. He removed his helmet before replying, "Watashi wa Deru."
Sandra smiled and took off her helmet as well. "So, how long have you enjoyed Sentai?" she asked him. "Ever since researching it back in 1995," Dale replied, "It interested me to see so many series overlapping each other- like Jetman, Ohranger and GoGo-Five." "My friend got me into Mahou Sentai Magiranger, and I was hooked on Sentai ever since. I've only seen back to Megaranger, cause I can't find any of the older series episodes online." she said and they walked about the Con.
"I've found episodes of older, pre-Ranger Sentai on Veoh," Dale replied, "and have even seen the first 5 episodes of JAKQ DengekiTai." "Wow! I'll definitely have to search Veoh." she said. "I even download from TV NIHON," Dale replied, "where they've even subbed 10 episodes of Dairenjaa. It's at www.tvnihon.com." "I'm famililar with TV Nihon. I get my current series from there. Didn't know they had Dairenjaa there." "Surprising what you learn from other fans, eh?" Dale replied.
"Hai, very much so!" she then chuckled. "I just had an idea. That is, if you aren't already participating in it." "Iie," Dale replied, "I haven't submitted a cosplay skit yet, if that's what you're thinking." "Great minds think alike." she said. "Should it be a sentai based, or you prefer an anime based one?" "Depends on what costumes you brought," Dale offered, "I brought one I'm going to debut, as well as a few other Sentai ones, including BoukenRed and both of Go-On Red's outfits." "I have Go-On Yellow and Bouken Pink outfits with me, as well as a few anime ones. What do you feel more comfortable doing?"
"Hmm," he said, "How do you feel about doing a Go-Onger skit?" "That'd be awesome." Sandra replied. "Would be a great way to introduce the new sentai series to the US as well. But I think we should go to one of our rooms and discuss what should be in the skit." she suggested. "I know it'd be near impossible to find a BanKiJuu here," Dale replied as they headed to their room. "I agree." she said. "Now to think of a skit between the 2 of us."
Just then, a person who overheard their conversation walked up to them. "I heard you said you needed a BanKiJuu for a cosplay skit," he said, "I'd be more than happy to play it for you." "You have a BanKiJuu costume with you?" Sandra asked, incrediously. "I came equipped," the man replied with a smile. "I'll say!" Sandra said, then looked at Dale. "What you think? Shall we invite this young man to our skit?"
"If he has a costume," Dale replied, "I don't see why not." "Thank you both," the man replied, "I'm sure you will remember this for a long time." "I'm sure we will." Sandra said. "Could we have the pleasure of your name?" she asked as they reached Sandra's room. "Michael," the man replied, "I will meet you later for the skit."
"Shall we set up a time to meet or will you come straight into the skit impromtu?" Sandra asked. "I will come straight into the skit impromptu," Michael said, "That's what the BanKiJuu do. Eh?" "Hai, that is true. Well, we shall see you then, Michael." Sandra told the young man. "I have a funny feeling about him," Dale replied as Michael walked off, "Like he isn't as he seems." Sandra shrugged it off as she replied, "Perhaps. But as long as he shows up, that all I care about." "Then we'd better not prepare for that skit if he's going to be impromptu," Dale said. Sandra opened the door to her room and motioned for Dale to enter. "Please, be welcome in my room." "Arigatou, Sandora-chan," Dale replied as he entered.
"Then if he's impromtu, then I suppose we will be as well." the young woman commented. "But we do need an idea of how to start it off." With the skit worked out between them, as well as Michael's unexpected offer of being the BanKiJuu for their act, Dale departed for his room as it was near 9pm that night. "Ja matte ne, Deru-kun." Sandra said as he walked out her door. "See you tomorrow," he said as he closed the door and walked down the hallway.
Being a little hngry, Sandra called room service and ordered a midnight snack of a club sandwich and a large glass of milk. 5 minutes later, a man carried a tray up to her room... but he was trouble, as he wore a circlet on his brow. He rang her doorbell, announcing himself as Room Service.
"That was quick." Sandra muttered t herself as she walked to, then opened the door. The man walked into her room and set the tray on her desk before drawing out a 9mm. pistol and aiming it at her back. As he shot her, Dale busted the door down and slammed him into the wall as he was walking by and heard the gun report. "Sandora-chan," he said, "daijoubu desu ka." Sandra looked at him, kind of dazed. "I think so." she said, before feeling a pain in her lower back and collapsed. Dale then picked her up and laid her on the bed before turning to see the room service man had gone back. He then walked back to his room and got back on his notebook computer.
Sandra lay on the bed unconscious- and inside her own mind, she saw a bright light, and felt herself fading. 'I didn't wanna die like this.' she thought. 'Then you won't. You have a Destiny to fulfill.' a soft voice said as a beam of moonlight came from outside and covered Sandra's body in it's healing light. After she was fully healed, Sandra slept like the dead until the next morning.
Next morning, Dale called Sandra's room. Sandra stirred at the sound but remained asleep.
Finally, when she didn't answer, Dale walked down to her room and knocked on the door. When she didn't answer that, he walked in with a manager's assistance and noticed the blood on the sheets. He quickly moved over and reached to feel her pulse. Sandra finally moaned and slowly opened her eyes. "What are you doing here, Deru-kun?" she asked. "I was wondering if you were alright," he said, "especially after what happened last night."
A confused look came over her as she tried to remember. "It's all kind of blurry. Last I remember, room service came in." So Dale used his memory of the facts to fill in the blanks. "That's the rest, I hope," he finished. "So that is where the blood on here came from." Sandra said, motioning to her sheets. "Interesting though. I feel no pain at all."
"Enough of that," Dale replied, "Let's shock Michael's BanKiJuu by dressing in something different- and it's time I debuted by anime costume." He then shocked her by saying he was dressing... as Tuxedo Kamen. "We're gonna change the skit to anime based?" Sandra asked. "Then it's a good thing that I brought along my SuperSailor Moon costume then." "But let's keep our GoPhones and Change Souls with us," Dale suggested, "In keeping with the spirit of the cosplay we're doing." "Sounds good." she replied as she went to take a shower.
About noon, it was time for their skit- and who should Michael show up as but the very first Bankijuu from GoOnger. But Dale was right in suspecting of him... for his pipes were spewing out thick black smoke from them. Everyone in the room, including them, slumped over from the issuing smoke... and the BanKiJuu went out and continued gassing everyone in the convention.
A few minutes later, Sandra moaned and slowly opened her eyes. She saw Dale laying nearby, and crawled to him, shaking him. "Dale-kun?" she said over and over. From her shaking, Dale woke up and looked at her. "I was right in my suspicions?" he asked her. "Hai." Sandra said sadly. "What do we do now? We can't fight him."
Dale then raised his fist and brought it down- but before he hit the stage, he looked and saw a red rose in his fist. "What the?" he asked. Sandra saw the rose as well and surprise came upon her face. "How the heck did you get that?" she asked. "I don't know," he said, "I raised my fist to bring it down- and saw it in my hand." "Something funny is going on here." Sandra said, confused.
It was then that Dale noticed her compact glowing- and in that instant, it changed into what they know as the Moon Prism. It was then that Dale looked in her eyes and smiled before saying, "Usako." At the flash of light, Sandra smiled. "It is so nice to be back in this world, Mamo-chan." she said as she hugged him.
"Hai, Usako," he said before his face turned serious and he said, "Why don't we play along with Beryl's game." "Sounds like fun!" she said. "Show her we know her little tricks. And show her a few of our own." She then pulled out what had been the G-Phone and was now the Luna Phone. She smiled and transformed herself into Go-On Yellow. "You gonna join me, 'Go-On Red'?" she asked. Pulling out the items in his pocket, he then henshined into Go-On Red. "Let's send this BanKiJuu packing!" he said. "Hai!" she said, and ran with him to find the BanKiJuu.
They found him on the ground floor, gassing everyone with his smoke. "Stop right there!" Dale shouted. The monster looked at the two and stood shocked. "How'd you wake up from my smoke?" he asked them.
"We're made of stronger stuff than you think, BanKiJuu!" Go-On Yellow replied. "But we know what you really are," Go-On Red told him, "You're a youma of Beryl's!"
The youma didn't have a choice- he then revealed himself in all his glory. "I shall send you to hades, both of you!" he then said. "Oh really?" Dale asked him... while flashing him a rose, which he launched and stuck in him.
Sandra then pulled out her brooch, which covered her in white light. After it disappated, it revealed her to be the Princess of the Moon. She then changed into Sailor Moon. "It can't be!" the youma then shouted. "Oh, but it can!" SailorMoon replied. She then lifted her moon scepter and made the youma turn into dust. The people then started waking up from his gassing as the duo then retroformed back to the 2 Go-Onger.
Go-On Yellow looked over at her partner and grinned. "Well done!" she said. "Same with you, Saki," Dale replied.
The results of the cosplay competitions were both unaminous- Dale and Sandra walked away with trophies and prizes for their efforts... and then Dale surprised everyone when, on one knee, he proposed to Sandra.
But no one would even know- not even those who choose to cosplay senshi- that these 2 mark the beginning of a new adventure for them.
