To: All viewers of my site, and particularly, the Ayeka fans out there. From: Loren Ward, Webmaster of Loren Ward's Dedication to Ryoko. Dear Tenchi Muyo fan/web surfer: Recently, I have come under fire from the pro-Ayeka factions of the net for the negative content on my site concerning Ayeka. I will clarify once and for all my views and opinions on Ayeka. First and foremost, I DO NOT HATE HER! Just because I have negative Ayeka stuff on my site doesn't mean I hate her. I just have a major dislike. Why? I'll tell you why. She has not forgiven Ryoko for anything and she has never said thank you for all Ryoko did for her. Given that Ryoko was under Kagato's control, you cannot blame her for what he caused her to do. True, the destruction of many major parts of Jurai was a terrible thing, it was not done by Ryoko's free will. Also, I do not recall Ayeka thanking Ryoko for rescuing her in the fight with Kagato. Ayeka did acquit herself well in the fight, but when she was overmatched, Ryoko did her best to keep Ayeka out of harm's way. Ryoko could have possibly beaten Kagato if Ayeka hadn't been there or if she had chosen to ignore her. As Washu said, the fight would have been over quickly if Ryoko had used her full power. But because Ryoko just chose to fight hand to hand without using much of her power, Ayeka is still alive. Then there is the matter of the floating onsen. If Ryoko made it, then she has complete control over who can enter or not. It is not taking up any land, so it is out of Tenchi and Katsuhito's say. But Ryoko is a nice enough person that is willing to share something that she loves so much with the others, Ayeka also seems to be a bit cold hearted and ruthless in some matters. Malice is probably a better word. Remember the onsen scene, OVA Episode 5? Ryoko was open and hospitable with Ayeka, even going so far as to share with her part of her past that no one else knew about. And what does Ayeka do? She uses it as a way to majorly crush Ryoko. Now, I know the two snipe at each other alot but slamming a treasured part of someone's past like that is just plain malicious. She is also very judgmental. When Ayeka first arrived, she didn't seem to care for anyone else's well being. She opened fire in a heavily populated area with a high-yield weapon. When she had Tenchi and Ryoko in captivity, she didn't seem to care about anything but where Yosho was, despite the misery she was causing everyone else. She sulked in her room for a week after the wreck, and when she did come out, she just caused problems for the others. She did try to be polite and courteous, but when the matter of the egg came up, all she did was assume things and slapped Tenchi. She was also a bit hostile to Ryo-ohki, but she should be glad that Ryo-ohki is a bit naive and genuinely worries for her. She also seems to be used to everyone doing as she says, or things being her way. In OVA Episode 2, she deliberately went against the Statute of Limitations, which said Ryoko was cleared of all crimes, and attacked her to seize her. She also went against her order to refrain from firing. That, and she is always " I forbid it" to something or "I order you to" to something else. But, as Yume said in the manga "You expect revolutionaries to stop if you order it, princess.". Kagato's response of "You are in no position to forbid anything, princess." was true also. If she is going to excersise her royal rule, she should use it as the Queen of Jurai or some other official office. There is one conflict point though: her adaptability. In the OVA, she is very adaptable to new situations. That is the true sign of nobility. In Universe, she laments constantly about not being in luxury and no one really following her orders. Not a really good way to go about things. Because of the confliction, I will leave the matter of adaptability as even. Her appearance isn't really that bad. Granted, she does look good, she is not exactly what I find the most attractive in a woman. Just, they eyes seem just a little disturbing to me (same with Sasami and Tsunami having no pupils and Tokimi's two colored eyes, but that is not up for discussion here). So just for you Ayeka fans, I will say she is a good looking woman, but I find Ryoko more attractive. Her loyalty is pretty good. She will help the others if they need it. She did join Ryoko's attack on Soja, to avenge Tenchi and she did help Tenchi in the attack on Kagato's ship. In Universe, her loyalty is a bit shaky. She was kind of a turncoat (Episode 5 of Universe) and seemed to be a bit self-centered. Ayeka's parenting and child handling skills leave much to be desired. She threw the baby when it urinated and got her hand wet. She also seemed to be only good for cleaning the diapers. While Ryoko wasn't the greatest at child rearing, she did a heck of alot better than Tenchi, Mihoshi and Ayeka. She may not have been the best but she tried. I guess I can sympathize with Ryoko on the child rearing and care since I have about the same level of skill, but I hope to not have to use it if possible. In Ryoko's defense, I offer these arguments: As I said above, the attack on Jurai, while brutal, was not something she wanted or tried to do. She was under Kagato's control. True, the attack did nearly kill the young Sasami, but she was rescued by Tsunami. Now, for those of you who point out the near death of Sasami as something Ryoko should be condemned for, ask yourself this. Does Sasami benefit from assimilating with Tsunami? Of course! She'll have the longevity of the goddess, she has command of the most powerful ship in the Jurian fleet, if not the universe, and she has great power as a result of the assimilation. Next, Ryoko's cooking skills are much better than Ayeka's. Not in complicated things, mind you, but easier things. Like frying meat and making sandwiches. That's roughly as good as I am, only she has more finesse when doing it (the lightning bolts, Manga #1, Chapter 1). The mind control. She was manipulated by one of the people who helped create her. Of course Kagato could have done it. He was in on the ground floor of her creation. Her love of sake. She loves sake because she loves the feeling of intoxication. While that is not always considered a good thing, Ryoko can handle alcohol quite well. She can go from heavily intoxicated to sober in seconds (OVA Episode #5, Kagato's entrance) ,thanks to her unique physical makeup. Her aggressiveness in her pursuit of Tenchi. He is the only man she loves. Of course she is going to be aggressive. The fact Ayeka and Mihoshi are there only complicate matters. Tenchi only would seem to be scared of her due to that aggressiveness. Heck, if a girl like Ryoko were after me like that, it would be worth some worry. (You gotta cut the guy some slack. He is trying to balance his attention between them. When you have such a visible love tangle, you tread lightly. But he does seem to be leaning towards Ryoko.) Zero only confirmed what we all knew. Ryoko does genuinely love Tenchi. You can't deny the facts. Heck, her feelings were enough to disrupt Zero and her mission. She may be a bit rude, but she never has had much of an upbringing. Destruction and death is all she has known. Kagato wiped her memory, so she never had much of a childhood. Ayeka has had the upbringing most people envy, so she cannot know what Ryoko has been through. As stated, I find Ryoko much more attractive than Ayeka. I find her hair style (and color) interesting, and her eyes are lovely. She has one knockout figure, let me tell you! The only one that comes kind of close is Washu (adult), because that is where part of the genetics came from. Finally, Ryoko's theme song is great. Runner up is Kagato's organ solo and then the Theme of the OVA series. There. I hope this answers some of your questions and gives you an idea on where I stand on all this.
