Session 10: "Ganymede Elegy"

Jet's returning a bounty to Ganymede, his home planet. On the way there, he seems to be dealing with some problems from his past that prevent him from doing certain required tasks...like getting permission to land! Fortunately, he's able to talk an old friend of his into letting them land, but not before his friend inquires about Jet's old girlfriend, Elysa. Spike and Faye stay on the Bebop, while Jet goes to find her.

Jet finds Elysa working at an old bar, along with her boyfriend Rhint. The two chat about the past for a while, when Jet shows her an old watch she gave him, a momento he'd kept all this time, despite the fact that it no longer works. But Rhint seems a little edgy..

On the Bebop, Jet's friend has contacted Spike, telling him about a bounty. The man apparently killed a group of men, then ran off. It turns out to be...Rhint?! Spike tries to contact Jet, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, after Jet leaves, Rhint is about to have a heart attack when he realizes that Jet is a bounty hunter, believing Jet came for him. It would seem Rhint killed the men to save himself, as a last desperate act of self defense. Elysa, realizing what's happening, agrees with him that they should leave.

Now, Jet is taking off and Elysa is escaping in a boat. Of course, Elysa doesn't get too far before Spike shows up, tailing them in the Swordfish II. Jet is almost run down by Spike, who tells him about Rhint's bounty. Jet tells Spike that this is something he must do alone, and Spike leaves.

Jet, oddly enough, doesn't let them go away. Instead, he uses grappling hooks to rip the engine out of the boat, leaving Rhint and Elysa stuck on land. She doesn't run, but draws a gun and fires a few shots, yelling at Jet about how he was always right and she had wanted to make her own decisions, even if it meant her own death. Jet takes her gun, punches Rhint and tells him to stop crying...he'll make it out alright.

Later on, Jet and Elysa seem to have come to terms with each other as Rhint is being carried away. After hearing the whole story, he decides that Rhint will probably get off on a self defense plea, serving about 5 months in jail. Elysa decides she can only wait for Rhint, and Jet finally throws away the old watch.
