Windows Tip: Menu Animation

Turn menu animations off with this tip.

When you open the start menu, you may notice that Windows offers a nifty sliding menu. You'll notice this when you hover on an item with an arrow next to it. Suddenly a menu pops up to one side of the arrow. Sometimes there will be an animation before the menu can pop out.

You can turn off the menu animation if you don't like the delay. Follow these steps so Windows sliding menus pop out instantly:

Right-click on the desktop.
Select Properties.
Select the Effects tab.
Uncheck "Animate windows, menus, and lists."
Click Apply.
