Windows Tip: Disable AutoPlay
If you frequently switch between audio CDs
and data CDs, it helps to disable the AutoPlay feature on your PC. Learn how
If you frequently swap CDs, it helps to disable the Auto CD Run feature,
called AutoPlay. Disabling AutoPlay is especially convenient if you change
from audio CDs to game CDs to programs. Chris will show you how to disable
it on today's episode of "Call for Help."
To disable AutoPlay, follow these instructions:
Single-click your Start Menu, mouse over Settings, and then single-click the
Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon.
On the Device Manager tab, double-click the CD-ROM branch.
Double-click the CD-ROM driver entry.
On the Settings tab, uncheck the Auto Insert Notification box.
To enable AutoPlay, follow the instructions to step six, but then check the
Auto Insert Notification box. As an added bonus, here is a shortcut to
suspend AutoPlay: Hold down the Shift key while inserting a CD.
