Windows
Tip: Folders Options
Customize the way you view folders.
Tired of the same ole Windows look? You can change the way your files and
folders look in Microsoft's omnipresent operating system. To do this just
open your Start Menu, click on Settings, and then click on Folder Options.
General
You can choose to view your folders as a webpage or in the classic Windows
style, or you can choose to customize them. To change your folder settings,
click Customize. You have lots of options:
Choose an Active Desktop.
Set your machine to browse folders in a new window every time.
Select a single-click option to open new folders.
View
You can choose to make all your folders look the same. Simply click the
Reset All Folders button. This reverts all folders to the default option. If
you want some variety, go through the checklist and change the view. Alter
the text case for folder names, or check to hide certain files.
File types
If you want to know what program opens files that have a certain extension,
go to this tab to get the lowdown on file associations. Click on a
registered file type from the list and you'll get a description of the file
type and the name of the program that opens that kind of file. You can edit
these settings, too.
