Tip: Unknown Keys
Use this guide to discover what some of those unknown keys on your keyboard do,
Have you ever come across the command, "press any key," while computing? If you
wonder which key is any key and what the Scroll Lock key does, you are not
alone. The question users ask tech support technicians most often is, "What does
this key mean?"
Key definitions
Any Key: Tech support specialists claim this is just another name for the
spacebar. In the event you see the any key blue screen, pressing the spacebar is
thought to not compromise any open documents or programs. But when prompted to
press any key, you could actually press any key on your keyboard and it should
have the same effect.
Insert: When activated, this key lets you type directly over text.
Home: Use this key to move to the beginning of the line.
End: Use this key to move to the end of the line.
Page Up: Use this key to move to the top of the page.
Page Down: Use this key to move to the bottom of the page.
Print Screen/SysRq: Print screen allows you to take a picture of the
screen. Paste it into an email to let others see what you see.
Scroll Lock: This is a toggle key that changes the positioning of the
cursor relative to the movement of the arrow keys. If a program supports this
function, and Scroll Lock is turned on, pressing the arrow keys makes the
display appear to scroll while the cursor stays in its original position.
Pause Break: This key was previously used in programming and debugging
applications. In most current programs, it is non-functioning. But it does have
one use when combined with another key. Press the Windows button + Pause/Break
to launch the System Properties dialog box.
