Timeless Rose

Eternal

His black eyes pierced into her soul.  She hesitantly raised her hand to touch his white hair and sighed.  Its softness reminded her of the flowers planted directly outside her house.  His face shattered and she cried out in shock and sat up.  She gasped for breath as she glanced around the darkened room.  Trunks stared at her as he watched her terrified movements.

“What is it?”  Trunks asked as she shuddered in shock.

“I-I don’t know,” she replied as she stared out the window.  She tightly clutched the blanket as she gazed at the dark night outside.

            “Are you all right?”

            “I saw him.”

Trunks placed his arms around her and kissed the back of her neck.  She sighed as she leaned back into his arms.  Had it been a dream or a premonition?

“Loren…” he said and she gazed up at him.

“Your eyes…I love how your eyes look. The magic…” she said and reached up to touch his face.

            “Hon…”

            “Did you ever…see him?”

            “Who?”

            “Shin.”

            “How could I?”

            “I don’t know…”

Trunks let go of her and leaned over to kiss her.  He gazed deeply into her eyes as she opened her mouth.  She sighed as she felt his tongue probe her mouth.  She still wasn’t sure why he did it but it felt good.  Trunks stared at her as she placed her hands around his neck, pulling him closer to her.

“Loren…” Trunks said and she blinked her eyes.

“What?” she asked and he grinned.

“You don’t know, do you? You were lost again, weren’t you?”

She sighed as Trunks crawled beside her and gazed at her legs.  He gently pushed them apart and massaged her thighs.  He watched her facial expression as he moved his hands higher.

“You’re making me shiver,” she said as he gazed down at her.

“Tell me about the dream,” he said and she sat up.

            “Dream?”

            “Yes. What frightened you?”

“Frightened? I…I don’t remember. It wasn’t a dream. It was more like a vision. You can do that even when I’m sitting up?”

            “You really should question less.”

Loren stared at him, his eyes slowly changing into Shin’s.  She reached up to touch his hair and watched in shock as his face shattered.  She screamed in alarm and Trunks drew back in terror.

“Are you okay?! Did I hurt you? Loren…Say something hon,” Trunks said as she placed her head in her hands.

“Why can I sense him? Why now? What’s happening? Trunks…I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I don’t understand,” she cried.

            “Loren please…”

She cried and threw her arms around him.  He gasped as he felt her tears stain his chest.  He lay a hand on her head and sighed.  Loren ran a hand over his breast and Trunks face grew red.  He wished that she wasn’t such a turn on at times.

            “He’s out there…somewhere.”

            “Hon…”

            “I’m sorry Trunks.”

            “It’s all right.”

He pushed her away and kissed her.  Trunks pushed her body onto the bed and sighed.  She closed her eyes and tried to forget her past.  There was no way for her to go back so why was it tormenting her? Why was his face so real? What was happening?

***

“Shao why can’t you tell her the truth?”  Han asked as Shao gazed out the window.

“How do I explain it to a child?”  Shao inquired as he turned away from the window.

“Wouldn’t it be better for her to know?”

“Why should I spoil her reality? Why should I tell the child that it’s coming for her? How can I explain that it’s coming for her? How can I explain that she fell like a tear from a supreme being onto our planet? How do I tell the child that she has no beginning?”

            “She’s our daughter.”

“No. We have been given the privilege of caring for her but the torch must be passed to more able hands. She comes from up there. That is where her parents are.”

            “Shin, what about him?”

“He knows of her existence though he may not understand.”

Loren crept away from the door and called softly to Ridel.  Ridel flew through an open window and licked her hand.  She smiled for a moment then gazed at the closed door, her tiny mind confused by what her parents had said.  Something was coming and it had to do with her.

“There you are. Want to play?”  Shin asked and she looked up.  She stared into his eyes, becoming completely engulfed by the sanctuary.  There was something there.  Something that she could not reach or see but it called to her.  It was as if she were standing on a different plain of reality.  There was nothing in that sanctuary yet it was filled with some sort of energy. She raised a hand as if to touch it but could not.

“Loren…” Shin said and she looked up.  She blinked her eyes as the bedroom came into focus.

The mid-morning sun shone brightly through the window bathing the bed with rich golden light.  Loren stood up and walked towards the window.  She opened it and watched a bluebird land on her hand.  She stroked its head as she slowly brought her hand up to her face.

“You were the one playing with sticks,” she said and the bird chirped a reply.

“Oh. It was a nest for your family. I bet they enjoy their home. Me? I like it here. I just wish I knew who I am. Or what I am. I remembered something that I had forgotten a long time ago. I was found by my parents. They said that I fell from the sky like a tear from a supreme being. They treated me as their own, but I didn’t belong. I didn’t belong anywhere.”

She smiled sadly at the tiny bird that seemed to be echoing her feelings and sighed.  She gazed up at the sky as if trying to see the remnants of her first home.  She felt guilty for being the cause of its destruction and had taken it upon herself to atone for the death of an innocent world by protecting other innocent worlds.  Although she was not aware why she protected those worlds when she was younger, she was now aware of what her presence had done and she felt terrible for it.

“I caused it. It was looking for me. That’s why the planet was destroyed. It wanted me. He knew. Shin knew all about it. He got out before it destroyed everything. I wonder…does Shin know? What I am and where I come from? What? No, I don’t know where he is. I didn’t even know he was alive until now. I wonder if it’s possible. Does something exist above the Kais? Am I from a higher plane?”

“Boy, I guess my aim was off,” Goku said and Loren turned around.

“What are you doing here?”  she asked as the bird flew out the window.

“What am I doing here? Darn it. I forgot why I came.”

            “Where’s Trunks?”

            “I don’t know. Wait. I remember.”

“Remember what?”

“Why I came. Chi-chi wanted you to come over.”

“Oh. I guess I’d better get dressed. Goku, what do you know about the Kais?”

“Well King Kai watches over this part of the galaxy. There’s also a Kai in the South, East, and West. Then there’s the Grand Kai and the Supreme Kai.”

            “The Supreme Kai?”

“Yeah. He’s kind of short and he’s one of the few people I’ve seen with purple skin.”

“Purple…Shin! You saw him? Where is he Goku?”  Loren asked as she took his hand.  Goku gazed at her and flushed.

“Um…I don’t know,” Goku replied as he pushed her hand off of his.

            “But you saw him.”

“I just don’t know how to explain it to you.”

            “You could show me.”

            “What?”

Loren raised her hand and forced Goku to lie on the floor.  His eyes grew wide as she sat on his chest and placed her hands on his forehead.  She closed her eyes, her mind seeing pictures of Goku’s memories as she leaned towards him.  She saw everything from his childhood to his last most important battle.  She now fully understood a Saiyen’s capabilities and the link between everyone she knew.

Trunks walked into the bedroom and stopped short when he saw Loren straddling Goku’s chest.  He opened his mouth to say something when he realized that he had not stumbled onto an intimate scene.  He was not sure what he had stumbled onto however, but he was positive that they were not making love together which was good because he knew what Chi-chi was like when she got angry.

“I completely understand,” she said and opened her eyes. “I understand your world.”

“How did you do that?”  Goku asked as he stared up at her.

“I don’t know. He’s been through a lot. I saw it in his face. If only I could have helped him.”

“Perhaps you should get off of him,” Trunks said and Loren looked up.

“I hope I didn’t worry you too much,” she said.  “I don’t know why this is affecting me so.”

            “Let me have your hand.”

            “Why?”

“Goku may want to get up.”

“Oh,” Loren said and looked at Goku.  Goku’s face blazed crimson as he tried to avert his gaze from her chest.  She quickly stood up, stumbled and fell back onto him.  Trunks frowned as Goku involuntarily transformed.  This was obviously making the older Saiyen aroused and it made Trunks slightly jealous.  Goku watched her awkward but nonetheless sensual movements and tried to get out from under her body.  She struggled to stand up and Trunks dragged her off of Goku.

“I’m…I’m sorry. I slipped,” Loren said and Trunks kissed her neck.  He turned away from her and helped Goku up.  Goku’s embarrassment had somewhat faded as his hair turned back to normal.  He smoothed his shirt and gazed at Trunks.

“Do me a favor, will you?”  Goku asked and Trunks looked at him.

            “What is it?” he asked.

            “Don’t mention this to anyone.”

“I didn’t mean to Goku. I’m sorry. It wasn’t supposed to happen,” Loren sobbed and Trunks ran over to her.

“It was an accident. It’s all right,” Trunks said and took her into her arms.

“I must be a pain to you. I really get in the way sometimes, don’t I?”

“No, of course not. You never get in the way. Calm down please hon.”

            “Trunks…”

Goku watched Trunks kiss her and shook his head.  He wondered if Vegeta knew just how infatuated Trunks was with her.  He cleared his throat as Trunks placed a hand inside her shirt.  Loren gazed at Goku and disappeared.  Trunks stared at the shirt that he held in his hand for a second then turned to face Goku.

“I’m sorry Goku. I didn’t mean to upset you,” Loren said as Goku stared at her bare chest.

“Maybe you should stay stationary,” Trunks said as he handed her her shirt.

“I forgot that it was a normal piece of clothing. I can’t adjust to your world very well.”

“Hey, it was a mistake. Don’t worry about it. Well I’d better get going. I really shouldn’t stay any longer,” Goku said and disappeared.

“I embarrassed him, didn’t I?”  she asked as Trunks stared at her bare chest.

“It would help it you wore something underneath,” he said.

“Why would I want to do that?”

            “Never mind. Come here.”

Loren did as she was told and Trunks kissed her chest.  She ran her fingers through his hair and glanced out the window.  She watched a squirrel run down the tree and smiled. Why weren’t humans as easy to understand as animals?

“We’re going out with Mother tomorrow,” Trunks said as he stepped away from her.

            “Why?”  she asked.

“Put this on. We’re going to the mountains tomorrow.”

            “What for?”

“Mother wants you to see snow.”

            “Snow?”

“Yes. It’s like rain except it’s white. You’ll need a coat because it’ll be cold where we’re going. Hey would you like to go out?”

            “Out?”

“Yeah. Come on, let’s go to the park.”

***

“What is that?”  Loren asked, pointing to where a lot of small children were playing.

“That’s a playground,” Trunks said and she looked at him blankly.  He smiled and took her hand.

“They look like they’re having fun.”

“They are. Would you like to join them?”

            “Sure.”

            “I’ll race you.”

Trunks let go of her hand and ran down the hill.  She ran after him and soon overtook him.  He watched her sensual strides and nearly forgot to look where he was running.  Loren stumbled over a rock and Trunks caught her.  He smiled as he led her over to the playground.

“They’re hanging upside down on those bars. That looks like fun,” Loren said and attempted to walk over there.  Trunks held her back and she looked at him not sure what she had done wrong.

“Tie a knot in your shirt,” he said.

            “What for?”

“Uh…it will make it easier for you to see when you’re upside down.”

            “Oh. Okay.”

Trunks watched her walk over to the bars and sighed.  He was glad that he had convinced her to wear shorts.  He had already seen the damage she caused on their way to the park.  She didn’t mean to be a distraction, but most of the men on the street saw her as one and she left chaos in her wake.  He watched her pull herself onto the bar and lock her legs around it.  He slightly felt guilty for having her as a roommate and sharing his bed but there was not other place she could go.  Besides, he immensely enjoyed her company.  She looked so peaceful in bed next to him at night and of course there were the other things…He knew that he was probably moving entirely too fast for her but he couldn’t help it.  Her innocence was what made her so enticing. Her childlike wonder with the world only served Trunks with a desire to be with her more.

“Is that one yours?”  a voice asked and Trunks looked beside him.  A redhead wearing Trunks school symbol stood next to him.

“Hey Midel. Um…what are you doing here?”  Trunks asked.

“I’m stuck babysitting my sister. So how come I haven’t seen her in school? There’s no way I could have missed a figure like that.”

“Um…she’s on the exchange program. She has to get used to our culture before she can start school.”

“So where is she staying? I’ll gladly show her around town.”

            “She’s with me.”

            Really? Do your folks know?”

            “Of course they do.”

“I’ve seen your place. It’s pretty small. Where does she stay?”

            “We manage.”

            “Have you…you know, done it?”

            “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

            “You’re blushing.”

            “It must be the sun.”

“The sun. Right. You know what we should do? We should go out on a double sometime.”

            “I really don’t think…”

“What are they doing? Hi,” Loren said when she noticed Midel.

“Those are swings. Go try one. She’s had a very sheltered life,” Trunks said to Midel.

“I can see that,” Midel said.

“I’m surprised her grandparents were able to convince her parents to allow her to come here.”

“So how did you get her?”

            “Um…my parents know her grandparents.”

“Uh-huh. She should really put that body to work. She’d be an excellent dancer. She would get a fortune in tips. I could get a private dance from her. Sorry, I was thinking out loud. I’ve made you mad, haven’t I?”

“Are you going to play, Trunks?”  Loren asked as she walked up to the two.

“It depends on what game you’re playing, right?”  Midel asked Trunks.

“She doesn’t know what you’re talking about,” Trunks replied as he watched her sit on a swing.

            “Do you want a push?”

“I guess,” Loren replied and trunks walked behind her.  He placed his hands on the chains and pulled her back.  He gently pushed her and she flew high into the air.

“Do you do the other kind of swing?”  Midel asked Loren.

“Leave her alone. She has no idea what you mean by that,” Trunks said.

“Oh. Another dumb blonde, huh?”  Midel muttered and Trunks grabbed his shirt.

“Listen. She’s an outsider. She’s not stupid. Understand?”  Trunks hissed and Midel took a step backward.

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry about that. I didn’t mean to offend you. Hey, to make it up to you, I’ll buy you guys lunch okay?”

            “Well…”

            “Good. Let’s go.”

“Where are we going?”  Loren asked as Trunks took her hand.

“Midel wants to buy us lunch,” Trunks replied.

            “Midel?”

“Yes. Midel this is Loren. Loren, Midel. Midel goes to school with me.”

“So what do you think of this town?”  Midel asked Loren.

“It’s nice. It just takes awhile to get used to everything,” Loren replied as Trunks placed his arm around her.

“You seem to be adjusting quite well to him.”

            “What are you talking about?”

“Don’t worry about it,” Trunks said.

“We’ll eat here. It’s a really good inexpensive place,” Midel said as the walked into the restaurant.

            “Um…we left your sister behind.”

“She’ll be fine. As long as I bring something back she won’t tell Mom. Here’s a booth.”

Midel picked up a menu as Loren sat down.  She jerked slightly when Trunks tickled her side and glanced at him.  He smiled then picked up a menu.  Loren looked over his shoulder at the pictures for a moment then turned her attention to the window.

“You can have whatever you want,” Midel said to Loren.

“Thank you but I don’t want anything,” Loren said.

“She doesn’t eat much,” Trunks explained to Midel.

“With a body like that, she shouldn’t eat a lot,” Midel said as he stared at her chest.  Trunks placed a hand underneath her shirt and rubbed her back.  She sighed and watched a stray cat walk down the street.

“I think I’ll have the number three,” Trunks said to Midel.

            “Ooh. Good choice,” Midel said.

“That’s a beautiful dog,” Loren said and Trunks looked out the window.

“That’s a cocker spaniel,” he said.

“So you like animals?” Midel inquired and Loren nodded her head.

“You can learn a lot from them,” she replied.

            “That was very profound.”

***

“Why did he keep staring at me?”  Loren asked as she walked into the bedroom late that evening.

“You’re so beautiful hon,” Trunks replied as he took off her shirt.  He cupped her breasts and kissed her neck.  She closed her eyes as he gently squeezed her body.  She squirmed in his arms as he removed her shorts.  He smiled as he ran his hands over her entire body.

“What did he mean when he was talking about dancing? I don’t even know what that is.”

            “Loren hon let go.”

She looked at the placement of her hand and then at Trunks who seemed to be in pain.  She stepped away from him with a frightened expression on her face.  He sighed then took a step towards her.  She watched him worriedly as he took off his shirt.

            “I…”

“Don’t say it. I know you didn’t mean to. You can do buttons, can’t you?”

            “What?”

“You can only see flesh as flesh, can’t you?”

            “I don’t understand.”

“I want to feel the same way you do when I touch you.”

            “Huh?”

            “Just do it hon.”

Trunks watched her undo the button and sighed.  He watched her pull down the zipper and closed his eyes.  She stared at his waist for a moment, not understanding why he wanted her to touch him.

“Is there a point to all this?”  she asked and he looked at her.

            “Hon…oh!”

“Trunks…I’m not hurting you, am I?”

She looked at his facial expression and drew back.  He gazed at her warmly and came towards her.  She watched him for a moment then gazed out the window.

“Look at me hon,” he said as he pushed her onto the bed.

“What?” she asked as she turned her attention to him.

            “Can’t you stay focused?”

“There’s so much out there that’s new. I’m sorry. I’ve never been on a planet that was so amazing. Trunks…”

            “What?”

“Thank you for saving me. I must get on your nerves at times but you…mean a lot to me. You’ve given me an entirely new universe.”

            “Oh Loren…”

“I’m sorry. I just felt that I had to say that. I didn’t mean to upset you,” she said as she shrank back.  He grabbed her leg and she looked at him.

“Loren listen. I want to be with you. I want to be with you for an eternity if I can,” Trunks said and kissed her.

***

“Close your eyes dear,” Bulma said as Loren sat on the plane.

            “Why?”  Loren asked.

“Just do it hon,” Trunks said. “Is Father not coming?”

“Vegeta isn’t fond of cold weather. Besides, someone has to watch your sister,” Bulma said.

            “What is snow?”  Loren asked.

“You’ll find out soon hon,” Trunks said and kissed her.

“Put your seatbelt on,” Bulma said and walked into the cockpit.

“What are you doing?”  Loren asked as she opened her eyes.

“Putting your seatbelt on. I don’t want you to get hurt,” Trunks replied.

“Will this go as fast as my ship?”

            “No.”

            “Oh.”

Trunks took her hand and smiled.  He leaned over and kissed her cheek.

            “Close your eyes.”

            “When can I open them?”

            “When I tell you to.”

Loren shut her eyes as the plane took to the air.  She pictured Shin’s face again and sighed.  Where was he?  What had happened to him to make him seem so somber in Goku’s memory?  She wished that she could see him again for he seemed to be the only one that could explain her origins to her.  She wished her life wasn’t so confusing as she squeezed Trunks hand.  She saw the explosion in her mind and shuddered.  The evil that destroyed her first home was still out there searching for her. How long would it take for it to come to Earth?  She didn’t want to endanger her friends…especially Trunks.

“Open your eyes Loren,” Trunks said and she looked at him.

“What is it?” she asked as he unbuckled her seatbelt.

            “Look out the window.”

Loren stood up and gasped at what she saw.  The entire terrain was painted over in white.  Bulma smiled at the girl’s childlike wonder as Trunks led her to the hatch.

“It looks like a shower of stars,” Loren said as she stepped outside.

            “That’s snow dear,” Bulma said.

            “It’s cold.”

“Wear this hon,” Trunks said and placed his jacket over her.  Loren stared at the sky, watching in wonder as snow fell from the clouds high above.  She watched as a snowflake landed on her hand and gazed at it, its intricate design had temporarily mesmerized her.  The snowflake melted at the touch of her breath and she stared at the tiny puddle of water in her hand for a moment then gazed up at the sky again.

“They remind me of the bubbles,” Loren said and picked up a handful of snow.  She watched as the flakes melted in her hand and wondered what the use for this substance was.  She gasped when a ball of snow hit her head and looked behind her.  Trunks was busy making another one but dropped it when he noticed Bulma’s glare.  He laughed sheepishly as Loren walked towards him.

“How did you do that?”  she asked.

“Like this,” Trunks said as he made another one. “If you roll it around, you can make a great big one.”

            “Why?”

            “For a snowman.”

            “A what?”

            “I’ll show you.”

“There’s supposed to be a lodge not far from here. Why don’t I go see if we can get some rooms?” Bulma asked.

            “Why?” Loren inquired.

“There’s a lot to do in the snow.”

            “There is?”

            “Sure.”

Loren watched Bulma walk off and stared at her tracks.  She moved her foot and gazed at her own impression in the snow.  She raised a hand and drew a line in the snow.  Trunks stopped his work and watched her.

“That’s Puar, isn’t it?”  he asked and she looked at him.

“Uh-huh. Is that a snowman?”  she inquired.

“It still needs arms and a face but that’s basically how one looks.”

“There’s a house over there. Is that where Bulma went? I’m cold.”

“That’s what makes getting warm so much fun.”

            “Really?”

            “Yes.”

            “Trunks!”

Loren giggled as Trunks tickled her.  She slipped and fell into the snow, dragging Trunks with her.  She shook her head and glanced at Trunks, hoping that she had not made him angry.  He smiled as he brushed the snowflakes out of her hair.

“You two are going to catch your death of cold,” Bulma said as she walked up to them.

“She slipped,” Trunks said as he helped Loren up.  He brushed her off and took her hand.  They followed Bulma to the lodge and Loren stared at a lake that had frozen over.

“It’s shiny,” she said and walked towards the lake.

            “It’s frozen dear,” Bulma said.

“Does that mean the fish are frozen?”

“Only the surface is frozen. See? If you look through the ice, you can see the fish swimming,” Trunks said.  Loren bent over to touch the ice and drew back at its coldness.

“It’s hard. Can you stand on it?”

“Don’t try dear. You’ll fall,” Bulma said as Loren attempted to set a foot on the ice.

            “It’s slippery,” Trunks said. “Watch.”

He picked up a rock and threw it onto the lake.  She watched it slide across the lake in wonder.  She gazed at Trunks and then at the lake.  She really wanted to try standing on the ice.  It looked like so much fun.  Trunks drew her away from the lake and sighed. There would be no sliding across the lake now.

“Let’s get you inside dear. We don’t want you to get sick,” Bulma said as Trunks took her away from the lake.

“But I don’t get sick,” Loren said as they walked towards the lodge.

“There’s a lot to do inside as well,” Trunks said and she looked at him.

            “There is?”

“Of course. It’s awfully cozy by the fireplace.”

            “Fire…place?”

            “Wait and see.”

“Here we are dear,” Bulma said and looked around.  There were people building snowmen and snow sculptures, carrying skis, and driving snowmobiles.  She gazed at the woods behind the lodge and watched an elk walk past the trees.  Trunks glanced at the empty jacket that he held in his hand and sighed.  He searched the area for her but couldn’t locate her.

“Are you a deer?”  she asked as she patted it on the head.  The elk grunted and she smiled.

“You are very beautiful. You want me to get on? Okay. Where are we going? Oh.”

She climbed onto its back and laughed as it galloped off.  She gazed at the wintry scenery in wonder as the elk stopped on a small cliff.  The elk lowered its head and Loren jumped off.  She gazed into the sky in awe as the setting sun painted a majestic picture in the wintry air.  The elk twitched its ears in alarm then galloped off.

“At least you didn’t go far this time,” Trunks said as he walked up to her.

“It’s beautiful,” Loren said as he put his coat back on her.

“It’s going to get colder. Come on Mother’s worried about you.”

            “I’m sorry.”

He smiled and kissed her.  She placed her arms around his waist as he pulled her closer.  Trunks ran a hand through her hair for a moment then pulled away from her.

“Look,” he said and pointed to where they had been standing. “The snow melted. Let’s go back to the lodge.”

            “Why did the snow melt?”

“I guess our power caused it to melt.”

“There you two are. I hope you two have been behaving,” Bulma said as they walked into the lodge.

“Of course we have Mother. She was talking to an elk,” Trunks said as he led Loren to the fireplace.

“The shadows are beautiful. They’re constantly changing,” Loren said as he unbuttoned his coat.  She watched the flames jump higher in wonder as Trunks put his arm around her.

“They have a buffet here, dear,” Bulma said and Trunks looked up.

“Really?!” he asked and Bulma smiled.  She knew her son just as well as her husband.

“Yes. Get something to eat and we’ll start heading back when you’re finished.”

“I thought we were staying,” Loren said.

“I decided not to. I can’t let Vegeta be by himself overnight. My entire food supply will be gone,” Bulma said.

“Thank you for taking me here. It’s beautiful.”

“You’re welcome dear. Has he been letting you go out on your own?”

“No. He says I’m not ready to go out on my own.”

“You certainly need a lot of guidance. Our world takes awhile to get used to.”

“I realize that. I don’t mean to make you all worry about me.”

“It’s all right dear. He really cares about you.”

“He’s been extremely patient with me. You all have, even Vegeta.”

“And that’s saying something. Vegeta isn’t patient.”

“How do you put up with him?”

“I love him. That makes all the difference.”

“I knew I did the right thing.”

“We’re all very grateful to you. Vegeta is indebted to you the most though he’ll never admit it. That man has a pride problem.”

“I’ve noticed that.”

“Come on dear, let’s go back to the plane. Trunks will be coming shortly.”

***

Loren sat up and glanced at Trunks.  He lay peacefully beside her and she sighed.  She disappeared and reappeared high in the sky.  She was frightened that the evil was nearing her present location and she didn’t want to endanger everyone.  She couldn’t endanger them, not after they had opened their lives to her.

Perhaps it was time for her to move on. She sighed as she gazed down at the planet below.  She would miss Earth and everyone on it but she couldn’t endanger her friends.  Her armored clothing appeared and she descended back to the ground.  She wasn’t sure how to explain the situation to Trunks.  She didn’t want to leave him but she didn’t want to hurt him either.

“Loren…” a familiar voice said and she looked up.

“Shin!” she cried and hugged him.  His eyes grew wide at her unexpected friendliness.  He had forgotten how friendly she had been as a small child.  He had completely forgotten how innocent she was over the years.

“Let go. This isn’t the time for a reunion.”

            “But…”

“Just listen. You are not a Kai. Your parents found you.”

            “What am I then?”

“You are a Taelon. Your people seldom come to our plain. The oversee us but seldom interfere in the workings of this universe.”

            “Why am I here then?”

“From what I understand, there is a utopia over everything. To get there, one must use the key. Unfortunately, the key was lost ant a demon arose from the ultimate dark, vowing to locate the key and become ruler over everything. The key was embedded into a pure soul and sent to our universe in hopes that the demon would never locate it. Loren you are that key and the place you saw in my eyes is that sanctuary.”

            “What does all this mean?”

“The fate of everything lies in your hands.”

“Shin, when the time comes, will I have to go?”

            “Yes.”

“I won’t do it,” Loren said and Shin stared at her.

“What…what do you mean?”  he asked.

“Everything I’ve ever known is here. My earliest memories are here with you Shin. You’re on limited time. I’m not. My existence feels complete here. I…care for the people here. I won’t return to a place I know nothing about. I want to stay here.”

“But Loren you don’t belong here.”

“You’re wrong Shin. I do belong here. Where I don’t belong is up there. I may not be a Kai but I still help keep the peace. Have you been so busy with your duties that you’ve forgotten what I’ve done, Supreme Kai? Have you forgotten our friendship?”

            “How…?”

“I have my ways Shin. I’ve learned a lot over time and I will fight that demon when it arrives. However, I will not leave this universe. You were my first friend Shin. You should understand.”

“I do. I just want you safe.”

“Shin, I am safe. I feel welcome here. They care about me, just like you did or still do.”

“She isn’t empty anymore,” Piccolo said and Shin looked up.

“What brings you here Piccolo?” Shin asked.

“I’ve known her almost as long as you have.”

            “What?”

“There’s a lot that you don’t know about, isn’t there?”  Vegeta inquired and Shin stared at him.

            “You too?”  he asked.

“Unfortunately, this girl is even more selfless than Kakarot. Besides, she has a tendency to grow on you, much as I dislike it.”

“What’s going on?”  Trunks asked as he walked up to the others.

“The Supreme Kai doesn’t believe her abilities,” Vegeta replied.

“The thing that’s coming for her could easily destroy this universe. Do you realize the danger you’re in? She needs to leave this plane for the safety of all of us,” Shin said.

“I am more than willing to accept the danger,” Trunks said and Vegeta smirked.

“It’s impossible to separate those two,” he said and Shin stared at Trunks in shock.  “I’ve tried many times.”

            “Trunks you don’t…” Shin said.

            “I love her.”

            “But…”

“Time doesn’t matter. I had the same feelings once,” Piccolo said. “When I was younger.”

“We know all about your feelings Piccolo,” Vegeta said and Piccolo glared at him.

“Shall I tell everyone about your involvement with her?”

            “You wouldn’t.”

            “You haven’t exactly been faithful.”

            “Shut up!”

“Shin, his eyes have it too,” Loren said and Shin looked at her.

            “You mean…?”  he asked.

“I…I can’t leave him. I…I feel…content? Is that the word? I wandered because I was afraid of growing attached to someone. You left me and Piccolo left me but you both came back. Trunks showed me that there was no reason to run. He saved me. He saved me from myself.”

“Trunks surely you realize the limitations.”

“I don’t care about limitations. I’m not letting her go,” Trunks said and took Loren’s hand.

“So be it but I feel that it’s my duty to witness the outcome of this battle,” Shin said.  “It will happen in my plain of jurisdiction.”

“Isn’t watching all you do?” Vegeta asked.

            “Quiet Vegeta!” Piccolo snapped.

“Guys, I know you’re all concerned and everything but I’ve got school tomorrow,” Trunks said and Vegeta patted him on the back.

“It’s nice to know that she’s not all you think about,” he said and Trunks blushed.

“Aw come one Dad. I don’t have a one-tracked mind.”

            “You’d better be sleeping nights.”

“What do you think I’m doing?”

Vegeta looked knowingly at his son and Trunks face grew redder than ever.  He let go of Loren’s hand and she glanced at him.  She noticed his face and drew back.

“Did I do something again?”  she asked nervously and Vegeta grinned.

“Don’t worry so much girl,” he said. “We’ll leave you so that you can be rested for school boy.”

            “Thanks Dad,” Trunks said.

            “Don’t keep him awake girl.”

“Why don’t you come with me? We have a lot to talk about,” Piccolo said to Shin and Shin nodded his head.

“Yes. I will see you later Loren,” Shin said as Trunks led her back into the apartment.

***

“I’m never going to fall asleep now,” Trunks said as he took off his shirt.

“Do you want some help?”  Loren asked as she sat on the bed.

            “What do you mean?”

“Well, the technique I used on Goku is essentially the same as the relaxation technique I learned. Do you want me to do it?”

“If it will make me sleep then do it.”

            “Lie down.”

He bit his lip as he watched her sit on his chest.  She lay her hands on his forehead and closed her eyes.  He raised a hand and she jumped.  She opened her eyes and gazed at him, squirming at his touch.  He watched her with interest as she got an annoyed look on her face.

“Do you want to sleep?”  she asked and he smiled.

“I’m sorry,” he replied and dropped his hand.

A short while later, she gently kissed his lips as she appeared next to him.  She pulled the blanket over his chest and closed her eyes.

***

“Wake up hon,” Trunks said and kissed her.  She opened her eyes and gazed at him.

            “What is it?”  she asked.

            “Can you let me up?”

“I’m sorry. I don’t know how that happened.”

Trunks looked at her and then at the clock.  He looked at her and smiled.  School would just have to wait.  He was not going to miss such an opportunity.

“It’s okay,” he said and transformed.

“But what about…?” she asked and gasped when he kissed her leg.

            “It can wait.”

            “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. Besides, you like it.”

“I don’t…want to get you in trouble.”

            “I’ll be fine hon.”

            “But…”

            “Quiet.”

A knock came at the door just as Loren cried out in excitement.  She watched him stand up and walk to a corner of the room.  Trunks grabbed a robe and walked to the front door.  He jumped back in shock at who he saw standing on the porch.  He gazed at his visitor and tried not to look guilty.

“D-Dad? What…what are you doing here?”  he stammered and Vegeta smirked.

“Are you training in robes now?”  he asked as Trunks stepped out of the doorway.

“Robes? Oh you mean this? I was getting ready to take a…shower. Come on in. I’m running late. I don’t have much time to talk.”

“Do you always shower as a Super Saiyen?”

“Um…only when I’m in a hurry. I get done faster. You should try it Dad. It’s really great.”

“Is that why she screamed? Because you’re in a hurry?”

“What? No. Um…are you sure you heard a scream? I mean, the city can be so noisy in the morning. Maybe it was a delivery truck or something. It could have been the television also.”

“You’ve never learned to lie well have you boy?”

“Lie? I’m not lying Dad. Honest. Would I…lie to you?”

“Hi Vegeta. Do you want something to eat before you go Trunks?”  Loren asked as she walked into the room wearing a cyan cat suit.

“Where did you get that outfit?”  Vegeta asked.

“Make some for Father. It’ll put him in better spirits. Guess I’d better take that shower,” Trunks said as he headed to the bathroom.

“You’d better turn off that television as well. We don’t want any more screams.”

“I got the design from the East Quadrant. Now let’s see, what’s a good  morning meal ? How about something western?” Loren said and led Vegeta to living room.  Vegeta stared at the buffet that stood in front of him in amazement.  She handed him a plate then walked over to the window.

“You didn’t keep him awake, did you?”  he asked and Loren looked at him.

“I got him to sleep. He couldn’t fall asleep after everyone had left,” she replied. “I didn’t keep him awake.”

“I just couldn’t get up this morning. It’s no one’s fault,” Trunks said as he walked into the living room. “It smells really good.”

“Maybe you should stop watching television.”

“Vegeta’s already started. Here’s a plate. What’s he talking about?” Loren asked and handed him a plate.

“Nothing. So Dad, why are you here? Your visit certainly wasn’t expected.”

“So I noticed. I’ve come to take her to the hyperbolic time chamber,” Vegeta replied between bites.

            “What for?”

“To train. If the fate of everything is in her hands, she needs to be in top form.”

“That’s really nice of you Father.”

“I’m not ready to die yet. I don’t want her screwing this up.”

***

“Good morning Piccolo,” Loren said and squeezed his neck.  Piccolo flushed as she landed beside him.

“Can’t you forewarn me?”  he asked.

“Why? Hi Shin. Oops. I forgot.”

“It’s all right,” Shin said as she drew back.

“Good Morning Dende. I’m here to use the chamber,” Loren said and walked over to a young Namek.

“She’s changed and yet she hasn’t changed,” Shin commented as he watched her.

“The more I see her the more I grow fond of her,” Piccolo said as he watched the door close behind her.

“How long is she going to be in there?”

“She told me ten years,” Dende replied and Piccolo’s eyes grew wide in shock.

“Ten…years inside that place?”  he asked.

“That gives Trunks plenty of time to get his homework done,” Vegeta said as he landed next to Piccolo.

***

“How do you think she’s doing?” Trunks asked.

“She’s been in there for three weeks now. She should be coming out soon,” Goku said.

“I bet you’ve missed her,” Gohan said to Trunks and Trunks blushed.

“This is ridiculous waiting here,” Vegeta said.

“No one’s making you stay,” Piccolo said.

“So Trunks, I bet you’ve gotten a lot of work done. I bet you’re well rested as well,” Krillin said and Trunks blushed.

“I hope she’s all right,” Bulma said as she took Vegeta’s hand.

“The girl will be fine,” he replied.

“The door is opening,” Shin said.

Everyone watched as smoke filled the open doorway.  The squinted as a tall angelic silhouette appeared and looked on in awe as Loren emerged.  She stood before them, her silken blonde hair falling over snow-white angelic wings that resided near her shoulder blades.  Her eyes shone in a way that Trunks had never seen before and her clothing was more ornately attired than he was used to.  She wore a white sleeveless shirt with an embroidered cross shape pattern in gold thread, black studded arm guards with gray fingerless gloves underneath, tight black below the waist pants adorned by two silver and gold chain belts, black armored boots, and numerous scarves tied around her body.  She held a long silver sword that had a rainbow of gems and two wing-like flourishes adorning each side of the hilt in one hand and held the sheath in the other.  Piccolo stared at the earrings, suddenly recognizing them as Rion’s and gasped in amazement.  He sat in shock at the transformation.

“Loren?”  Trunks asked slowly as she sheathed her sword.  She gazed at him and smiled.

“It’s still me,” she said and laughed.

“You’re beautiful dear,” Bulma said and ran up to her.

            “Thank you.”

            “Are they real?”

            “You can touch them.”

“They’re so soft. Come on Trunks. Say hello. You haven’t seen her in over a month. I know you’ve missed her.”

“I can’t believe her power,” Shin gasped.

“I know. I’ve never felt anything like it. She’s stronger than those four combined,” Piccolo said.

“How could she possess such a power and yet I could not feel it?”

“Don’t blame yourself. The rest of us couldn’t sense it either.”

“Will it be enough?”  Vegeta asked and Shin stared at him.

“Do you realize what her power could do? She could easily destroy a dozen galaxies with this power,” Shin said.  “Don’t you feel overwhelmed by her energy level?”

“They are soft,” Trunks said as he stroked her wings.

“You look like an angel,” Bulma said.

“Those wings are going to make it difficult to hold you.”

“It’s not permanent,” Loren said and Trunks looked at her.

            “What?” he asked.

“Well your transformation isn’t permanent is it?”

            “No.”

            “See?”

Loren waved her hands and changed back into her normal self.  Trunks smiled as he lovingly embraced her.  Piccolo watched them for a moment and sighed.  He wished she could see him the same way she saw Trunks.

            “It’s coming,” Shin muttered.

“I can feel it,” Piccolo said.

“We need to move this away from people,” Goku said.

“For once, I’ll be able to see the full extent of her power,” Vegeta said as he watched Trunks kiss Loren.  “I’d like to see how strong she really is.”

“You’d better go home Bulma. We’ll watch her,” Goku said and Bulma nodded her head.

“I bet he’s missed that,” Krillin said as he watched Trunks.

“I’m going to be by your side the whole time,” Trunks said to her.

“Thank you. Let’s move this to where nothing can get hurt,” Loren said and Shin watched in awe as they were transported to a seemingly endless barren stretch of land.

“You’d better move away from her,” Piccolo said to Trunks.

“Be careful. I don’t want to lose you,” Trunks said and she smiled.

“I’m not going to leave you. You are more than a friend to me. I don’t know what that is, but that’s what you are,” Loren said and he grinned.

            “I know what you mean.”

“So you have finally stopped running,” a demonic voice said and everyone looked up.  A tall, black haired humanoid with dark red eyes and razor-like fingernails landed before them.  He took one look at Trunks and his gaze darkened.  The demon’s features grew more menacing as he raised a hand in Trunks’ direction.  Loren gazed at the demon’s dragon-like facial features and took a step in front of Trunks.

“His life does not concern you,” Loren said and the demon laughed.

“His life does concern you. If I spare him, will you turn the key over to me?”

“That is hardly an even exchange.”

“You could be together for an eternity in oblivion. You’d finally be where you belong with someone to keep you company. I’d call that even considering what you’ve done to the lower demons.”

***

“Vegeta, this is not your fight,” Shin said as he watched Vegeta’s temper rise.

“Besides, you’re grossly outmatched. Even you should realize that,” Piccolo said.

“Why am I here then?”  Krillin asked as Trunks became imprisoned in a glass like capsule.

“Damn! Look at what that creature has done,” Vegeta growled.  “I’ve got to do something.”

“Vegeta calm down. This isn’t the time,” Goku said.

“Kakarot I’m not in the mood.”

“Vegeta, you can’t do anything to help them,” Shin said.  “This is Loren’s fight. This will determine what will happen to life as we now know it.”

***

“I see you’ve brought an audience. They will be the first to witness a new order. Now give me the key and I may spare you.”

“I would rather die than live under your rule,” she said coldly.

“You wish death? I’m the only one that can give it to you.”

“If you think that I’m just going to hand the key over to you, you are sadly mistaken.”

“You wish to fight? Very well. I’d enjoy some entertainment.”

***

“Get down everyone!”  Piccolo cried as a blinding light ignited the sky above.

            “What…what was that?” Krillin stuttered.

“I’m not sure. That creature is not from this universe,” Shin replied.

            “Is she still…out there?”

“Of course. She’s not going to be defeated that easily,” Piccolo replied.  “She’s not normal, after all.”

***

“Did you really think that it would be so easy to destroy me?”  Loren asked, after the smoke had cleared.

“You’re stubborn, aren’t you?”  the demon asked and released a series of energy blasts.  She dodged them and phased out.  She reappeared behind the demon and attempted to kick his side.  She gasped as the demon grabbed her leg and dug his nails into her flesh.  She refrained from crying out in pain as the nails pierced her skin.

***

“This is bad,” Shin said as he watched the scene from a safe distance.  Vegeta glared at his companions, the knowledge that he could do nothing to save his son had angered him beyond rational thought.  Goku laid a hand on his shoulder and Vegeta glanced at him.  Goku shook his head and Vegeta heaved a defeated sigh.

            “You’re right Kakarot,” he said.

***

“Well I guess you’re serious about this fight, aren’t you?”  Loren asked as she wrenched herself free and the demon snickered.

“Such an important item should not be in the possession of a simple mind,” the demon said as he entangled Loren with numerous stands of black-like wire.

“Just because you can only see things by your own means does not mean that I have a simple mind.”

“Stubborn. I like that. What…what’s happening?”

***

Piccolo watched as a white light surrounded Loren’s body.  The demon was thrown backwards as Loren unfolded her wings .  The light subsided and Loren gazed at Trunks.  She waved a hand and his prison disappeared.  She caught him as he fell to the ground.

“Thanks hon,” he said and she smiled.

“You’re welcome. Now go keep Vegeta under control,” Loren said and transported Trunks to where the others were standing.

“Are you okay?”  Gohan asked Trunks and Trunks sighed.

“I bet I’m the only guy who’s fallen in love with a real angel,” he said and Krillin laughed.

“You won’t be able to pry those two apart with a crowbar,” he said.

“Incoming!”  Piccolo cried and Trunks watched Loren’s sword land in front of him.  He picked it up and flew towards the heat of the battle.

“Is he insane?!” Krillin exclaimed as Shin stared in shock.

“Why didn’t you stop him?! He’s your son. He’s going to get killed, you know that,” Shin said and Vegeta looked at him.

“He’s old enough to make his own decisions,” Vegeta said.  “I don’t control him.”

***

“Thank you Trunks. Now get out of the way,” Loren said and Trunks shook his head.

“No. I want to help you.”

            “You’ll die.”
“I don’t care. You said that you couldn’t leave me. Well I can’t leave you either.”

Trunks passionately kissed her and the other fighters watched in amazement as a transformation occurred.  He gazed into her eyes and sighed.  She smiled at she ran a hand over his purple wings.  Trunks gazed at his new addition for a moment and then inquisitively at Loren.

***

            “What just happened?”  Goku asked.

            “I don’t know,” Piccolo replied.

“He’s stronger than before,” Shin said and Vegeta frowned.  Was he going to have to put up with her even longer than he was prepared for?

“I guess love really is strong,” Goku said.

“I think it has to do with that sanctuary,” Shin said and Piccolo looked at him.

“I beg to differ. There’s more to them than that sanctuary. It’s as if there’s a link between the two,” Piccolo said as the sky lit up with another wave of light.

***

“So you’re willing to die together. How touching,” the demon said and Trunks sneered.

“I’m tired of all this. Let’s end it,” he said coldly.  “You’ve tormented her enough.”

“Very well. I shall clip your wings.”

Loren watched as the blast from the demon’s hands threw Trunks miles away.  She gazed at the demon knowing that he would not kill Trunks in an attempt to get the key.  This was the time.  This was the moment that would determine the outcome of everything.  She had to act quickly.  Loren raised her sword and swung in a downward chopping motion.  She meant to halve the demon and would have succeeded if Trunks hadn’t chosen that moment to return from the demon’s attack.  He grabbed her waist and buried his face in her wings, determined to be with her until it was all over.  The demon blocked her attack and closed his eyes, mentally preparing himself for a finishing move.  Trunks pulled her closer to him and she glanced at him.

“I have an idea. Shield your eyes. Wait until he’s distracted then attack,” he whispered and let go of her.  He flew high into the air and released a blinding solar flare attack.  The demon covered his face just as Loren swung her sword.  The air echoed with the demon’s scream, a mixture of pain and defeat as half of her sword became embedded in his flesh.  The gems on the sword amplified the effect of Trunks solar flare attack and caught spark within the demon’s empty soul.  In a few moments, both the demon and sword were reduced to ashes.  The spectators stared open-mouthed at the color filled sky that brightened momentarily as the demon uttered his last scream then once again darkened as if nothing had happened.  Shin gazed upon the battle weary figure of Loren, shocked that the carefree girl of his youth had such control over such an enormously destructive power.  Loren wavered with fatigue and Trunks caught her before her body hit the barren ground.

“Trunks…” she whispered and he gazed down at her.

“It’s over. You’re free hon,” he said and she smiled.  She raised a hand to his face and he kissed it.

“Thank you for helping me. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

            “I love you hon.”

He kissed her passionately and the other fighters watched in amazement as the two disappeared.  Trunks glanced up and dropped her in shock.  Loren stood up and gazed around her in awe.  She picked up a handful of flower petals and watched them rain from her hands.  It was so beautiful.  It was if she had stepped into a dream that she had first seen so long ago.

“Where are we?”  Trunks asked as he slowly walked around.

“We’re here. Trunks we’re here!” Loren said and embraced him.

            “Where is here?”

“This is what I saw in your eyes. Isn’t it wonderful? Nothing can hurt us here.”

“Are we the only ones here?”

            “Of course. Isn’t it magical?”

“It’s wonderful hon. Come here, love.”

“What is it?”  Loren asked as he ran his hands over her wings.  He kissed her neck and she sighed.  Trunks pushed her down into the flowers and pressed his body onto hers.  She stroked his wings as he kissed her lips.  He leaned back and looked at her.

“You are so beautiful love. I wish we could be like this for an eternity,” he said and she looked at him.

“We could,” she said as he brushed the flowers out of her hair.

            “What do you mean?”

            “There’s no time here.”

“Where did they go?”  Goku asked and Krillin shrugged his shoulders.

“Where are we?”  he asked. “How are we going to get back home?”

“Don’t worry about it. We’ll get back home.”

“She did it. I can’t believe it,” Shin gasped and Piccolo glanced at him.

“Did you ever doubt her?”  he asked.

“She didn’t do it alone,” Gohan said.

“The boy did help her,” Vegeta said.

“Yes, Trunks was of great help to her,” Piccolo said and Shin nodded his head.

“You were right Piccolo. There is something special between the two,” Shin said.

“I just wish that they weren’t so into each other,” Vegeta grumbled.

“Oh so you know about that?” Krillin asked and Vegeta looked at him.

            “What?”

            “The lake incident.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I guess you don’t know about that.”

“Are you trying to tell me that he’s been taking advantage of her ever since that first day?”

            “No. I’m not saying that.”

            “What are you saying then?”

“If she was more my type there wouldn’t be a problem,” Piccolo muttered and Shin looked at him.

“How can you have fallen for her?”  he asked.

“How long did you know her?”

“I was extremely young when I met her. I was about four or five when I was introduced to her.”

“That’s why you can’t see it. You were too young when you met her.”

            “They’re coming back,” Goku commented.

            “Are you sure?”  Shin asked.

An archway appeared and Trunks stepped out from a white light with Loren in his arms.  Vegeta frowned as he gazed upon her sleeping face, not entirely sure what they had been up to but he was positive that they had been doing something that they shouldn’t have been doing.  He wished that she was a little less innocent.  His son was definitely taking advantage of her.  Krillin knew about it and Vegeta had his suspicions ever since he saw how shocked Trunks was when he appeared at the apartment a little over a month ago.  Trunks gently placed her on the ground and she opened her eyes.  She stood up and shook the flowers out of her hair.

“At least the wings are gone,” Vegeta commented and jumped when Loren appeared in front of him.

“You don’t like wings?”  she asked as she touched his arm and Vegeta glared at her.

            “Get out of my face.”

“It’s nice to see you too.”

            “Don’t do that.”

            “Why not?”

“If only I could…” Piccolo muttered and Krillin looked at him.

            “Are you fantasizing?”  he asked.

            “Shut up.”

“Loren…” Shin said and walked up to her.

            “What is it?”  she asked.

“Thank you. I lost faith in you over the years but you’ve proven yourself.”

            “Thank you Shin.”

She gasped as Piccolo grabbed her arm and dragged her back to where he stood.  She gazed at him in confusion and he smiled warmly.  She nodded her head and smiled, understanding the kindness in her old friend’s eyes.

“I knew you could do it,” he said and she fondly embraced him.

“Thank you Piccolo,” she said and kissed him.  Vegeta grunted and turned away in disgust as she ran her fingers over Piccolo’s ears. Why did everything she did have to be so sensual?  Goku laughed and Vegeta glared at him.

“What’s so funny Kakarot?”  Vegeta asked.

            “You looked jealous,” Goku said.

“Don’t be jealous Father,” Trunks said and Krillin laughed.

“Is Vegeta still carrying the torch?”  Krillin inquired.

“Shut your mouth Krillin!”  Vegeta snapped.

“He didn’t mean it Father,” Trunks said.

“I don’t take humor lightly Kakarot.”

“Krillin’s quite a joker,” Gohan said.

“At least Trunks doesn’t get as embarrassed as you did,” Krillin said and Gohan blushed.

“I didn’t do it this time,” Loren said and Trunks grinned.

“You’re fine love,” Trunks said and took her hand.  Vegeta gazed at them for a second then turned away. How could she have beaten him?

“Take us back girl,” Vegeta said and Loren looked at him.

“You’re right. I’ve seen Chi-chi when she’s upset. She’s scary,” Loren said and Goku laughed.

            “That’s my wife,” he said.

“At least your mom is easier to tolerate than my mom,” Gohan said.

“Hey Bulma is pretty frightening too,” Krillin said and Vegeta glared at him.

“I remember when she was a carrot. She was a lot nicer then,” Goku said.

“That’s when you had a tail, wasn’t it? You looked so cute then,” Loren said.

“How did you know about that?”  Krillin asked.

“I saw his memories. You know Piccolo…”

“You don’t want to see my memories,” Piccolo said as she appeared next to him.  She thoughtfully stroked his ear and smiled.

“It can’t be that bad. Besides, they’re only memories. You can’t relive them,” Loren said as they appeared at Kami’s.

“I don’t want you to see what I was.”

            “Why?”

“I wish I could explain it to you.”

“Come on. You live over here right?”

“I don’t think Piccolo is ready for her memory technique,” Goku said.

“At least the reaction won’t be the same if she slips,” Trunks said.

“It must have been shocking to find us that way.”

“Well I never thought that you…I mean being married and all…”

“Guys what are you talking about?”  Krillin asked.

“Let me guess. She has also charmed Kakarot. I should have destroyed her when I first ran across her,” Vegeta said.

“You know, that technique she used on you is almost the same as a relaxation technique she knows,” Trunks said, ignoring Vegeta’s sarcasm.

“What are you talking about Dad?”  Gohan asked.

“I’d better get home before your mom comes looking for me. See you guys later,” Goku said and flew off.

“Wait up Goku,” Krillin said and followed him.

“Come by tomorrow and we’ll talk,” Gohan said to Trunks.

“Okay. Is noon tomorrow okay?”  Trunks asked.

“That’ll be great. See you there.”

“This memory technique…” Vegeta said and Trunks looked at him.

“I don’t know Dad,” Trunks said.

“Are you afraid that I might do something…immoral?”

            “You?! No of course not.”

“You’ve been taking advantage of her ever since she set foot on this planet. She never had a chance with you around.”

“I haven’t been taking advantage of her. All right, I have but I never meant to. She’s so innocent that she couldn’t see my advances. It just happened. It was an accident. Besides, I didn’t know you knew her. You never talk about your past.”

“I didn’t know her. I thought she was a self-righteous fool who dared to cross my path. I swear that I died that day. My muscles ached and my fighting spirit had been thoroughly broken. Through all that, she saw value in a life that I couldn’t even see. Inadvertently you are my thanks to her. You’ve capitalized on the value that she had first seen in me. Does that shock you, Supreme Kai? Does it shock you that someone such as myself, a Saiyen Prince, has ties to such a girl?”

“How could I have missed all this?”  Shin asked aloud.

“Are you sure that the split wasn’t a result of my leaving?”  Loren asked as they walked back outside.

“I’m sure. You were needed elsewhere. I understand,” Piccolo said and embraced her.

“It was nice seeing you again Shin though I suppose you’re right. It’s time to stop asking questions and settle into the mundane routine which is called adulthood,” Loren said and Shin sighed.

“Don’t change Loren. Everyone has fallen in love with the way you are. You have something that the rest of us don’t have. I promise that I’ll keep a better watch on this area, okay?”  Shin asked and Loren smiled.

“Okay. Does that mean I’ll get to see you more often?”

            “Perhaps.”

“Let’s go Loren,” Trunks said and reached for her hand.

“Goodbye Vegeta and thank you,” Loren said and kissed his cheek.  He stiffened when he felt her touch.  Trunks pulled her away and smiled at his father.  Vegeta returned the smile, fully aware that he had given her the greatest token of appreciation that he could give, not that he was admitting his fondness for her or anything.  He didn’t like the way it happened however, but he could not deny the fact that the two shared something special.  He just wished that Trunks would go slower with her.
