There is a perfectly logical explanation for mankind's fascination with villains. It lies somewhere in their situations, their circumstances. Somehow they are too easily sypathized with, so easily viewed with compassion. At least... for some. Others think those of us who root for the "bad guy" are completely nuts! ^^
Villains seem doomed for destruction. Everyone knows that the hero is the one to triumph in the end, so the poor villains might as well give up. But, do they? Not a chance! That's perhaps one of their best qualities. They have a persistence and a drive that rivals the hero's pitiful attempts to foil them. In fact, if it weren't for the villains, heros would have no conflict to settle, no temptation to overcome.
It seems the more villains a hero slays, the more of a hero he becomes. However, the villain only has to kill a single innocent and he's branded evil and must be destroyed.
Go Dougan was nearly a villain too close to the audience's heart. His plight was understood well by devoted admirers everywhere who'd been snubbed by the object of their adoration. These fans secretly wished that they too could take matters into their own hands and pursue their obsessions until their quarry surrendered in defeat!
