The Z Fighters showed up at the town where the androids were supposed to be. They found them and Goku fought Android 19. He was doing well as a super saiyan but then the heart virus kicked in. Yamcha flew him away and then Vegeta showed up with an astounding new power. Vegeta had finally become Super Saiyan (S.S.). S.S. Vegeta defeated Android 19 easily, but their creator Dr. Gero (Android 20) started to run away. The team chased him thru the mountains but could not find him. Meanwhile Trunks returned to help the Z Fighters and made a horrible discovery. The androids they had been fighting were not the ones from Trunks's time. The Z Fighters raced to Gero's lab but they were to late. Gero had already awakened Androids 17, 18, and 16. They killed Dr. Gero and then went after the others. Even S.S. Trunks and Vegeta couldn't stand up to them. At this point the androids left to terrorize the earth and kill Goku. Vegeta; his pride hurt ran off and Trunks went after his father. Yamcha was taking care of Goku with Chichi and Gohan, Piccolo went to fuse with Kami to get new powers and then with Tien and Krillin went after the androids.

As the others searched for the androids, Trunks, Gohan, and Bulma checked out a lead on Trunks's time capsule but Trunks knew he had it with him. When they showed up Trunks found it was his time capsule but it was moldy and rusty, it proved to have been their for 4 years, one year before Trunks showed up. That wasn't the worst of it they found the sheded exo skeleton of a huge buglike creature near by. Some evil force was loose on earth worse than the androids. That is when Piccolo met him the evil beast Cell. Cell told him how he came from Trunks time after killing him and stealing his time capsule. He was a biological creation made by Dr. Gero to unleash after Gero died. To reach full power he has to suck up Android 17 and 18 but Trunks had killed them in his time so he needed to return to the past. Piccolo was strong enough to beat him so Cell disapered. Then Trunks, Krillin, and Tien showed up. Trunks and Krillin went and destroyed the Cell from their time who was still in his larval form. Tien and Piccolo went after the Androids and Cell. The Androids weren't doing to well in their hunt for Goku who was now on Master Roshi's Island. Then Piccolo, Krillin, Tien and Trunks showed up at Master Roshi's Island after having no luck catching the androids and Cell. Goku who was now back to perfect health went with, Vegeta, Trunks and Vegeta to train in Kami's time portal. Then the Androids showed up. Piccolo led them out to an uninhabated island to fight. He fought android 17 and was perfectly matched. Then Cell showed up and sucked Android 17 thru his tail. He started to transform! Now he was much more powerful. Tien used a new technique to hold him off while androids 16 and 18 got away.

Cell continued to look for them on each island in the area, destroying each one as he went along. Vegeta and Trunks who had gotten their year worth of training inside a day of the machine went to fight Cell. Piccolo, Tien, Krillin, and all the others went up to the lookout. Goku and Gohan were in training at this time. Cell fought both Vegeta and Trunks fought to thew point where Cell could not win but Cell tricked Vegeta into letting him become at full power by sucking up Android 18 first. After Cell Became perfect he defeated Vegeta and Trunks with ease and gave them 9 days to train. Then they would have the Cell games, modeled after the world tournament. Also Goku and Gohan's training was doing well Gohan had already become Super Saiyan.

Pretty soon Gohan and Goku come out of the time room with a shocking discovery to the others, they had figured out a way to stay super saiyan at all times. Trunks told them about the upcoming cell games. Goku and Gohan instead of training for the next 9 days decided to take it easy and enjoy their company for as longg as they could. During this time Goku went to new Namek and got a new gaurdian for the planet, Dende. Then once the dragon balls were restored Goku went and found them all. During the days ahead Gohan had his eleventh birthday. It seemed to pass quickly and in no time they were on their way to the Cell Games. When the Z Fighters arrived their were already 3 others their. It was Hercule the world tournament champion and two of his best students. They all went up against Cell but they proved to be miserable weaklings. Then it was Goku's turn. They started off with amazing power. The other Z Fighters were astonished at the speed and power. But then they found that Cell and Goku were just playing with each other. When they finally started to fight for real it was proved that Cell was the superior fighter. That is when Goku brought in his secret weapon, Gohan! Gohan started out loosing horribly until cell created 7 blue minature copies of himself and attacked the other Z Fighters with them. At the risk of the death of his friends Gohan goes mad and turns super saiyan 2 (acended saiyan). He easily destroys the Cell J.r.s that not even goku could beat one of. Then S.S. 2 Gohan went after Cell. He beat him up so much that he spit up android 18 and went back down to his second stage. It was clear Cell didn't stand a chance so he turned himself into a living bomb. If he was touched he would blow up Earth. Goku knew what he must do. Even though it meant his life Goku used his instant transmision powers to send him and Cell to king Kia's planet. This killed Goku, King Kai, Gregory, and Bubles but unfortanetly it did not kill Cell. He was now back to full power and had the instant transmission technique whcih he used to return to Earth. Now Cell stronger than ever wasn't playing games. Gohan and Cell fought the most memerable battle in all DBZ history. In the end using his fathers spirit Gohan created a kamahameha wave so strong every last cell in Cell was destroyed and the earth was safe. The Z Fighters then wished with the dragon balls that everyone killed by Cell would be brought back, but Goku decided to stay in otherworld because most of the villians who had come to earth were after him so earth was safer without him. But it wasn't over yet, after his journey through the past Trunks was ready to return to his time and stop the androids. He went back and finally showed the androids what being a super sayian was. He was on his way to tell the Z Fighters in the past he had won with the time machine. But Cell arrived. Trunks was alredy expecting him though. Concidering he beat level 2 Cell in the past level 1 was no problem. He wiped Cell off the face of the earth.
