Review:

For much of it's first run on Japanese television, the anime world has heard of nothing but "Tenchi Muyo!". It is a charming story of "Tenchi Misaki", a young boy whom faces the challenges of growing up; while at the same time dealing with intergalactic plots of epic proportions. The Tenchi Muyo!series is one of the most well-known and popular anime shows of all time, and that reputation lives up to itself pretty well in high regard to that. The tenchi saga consists of several different series. The original television series "Tenchi Muyo!", the OAV "Tenchi Universe", "Tenchi In Tokyo", as well as three feature films and a series devoted to one of the characters. The first thing which most noticable about the OAV series is it's cunning and excellent quality. Indeed, this is one of the most enjoyable and entertaining anime shows ever created. The series features some of my most favorite anime characters of all time, it's wonderful to see that they have all gone through the many various movies and series; which has made Tenchi Muyo a household name in Japan.

Highly noticable is the show's huge attention to technical aspects. The animation is truly high quality, and way above average for a television series. The colors are vibrant, bright and extremely well-matching; and the animation is both fluid and imaginative. Some of the most cute, and hilarious characters ever can be found in this show. "Sasami" and "Ryo-Ohki" have been favorites amoung many fans, and Tenchi himself is a both complicated and funny character in his own right. The many aspects in Tenchi's world better serve to further enlighten the imagination of show, as well as the surprisingly in-depth and likable characters; whom are often hilarious. The plot for the show is very smart, though it can often drift into the ludicrous. The plot has it's share of outrageous comedy, drama and action.

Aside from merely being a romantic comedy with sci-fi themes, Tenchi Muyo contains some of the most influential designs in anime history; despite their often conceptual "cartoonish" feel. "Ryo Ohki" (Whom is actually a gigantic space ship) is simply hilarious and over-the-top. The main characters all interact very well and we get a sense of this diverse world they inhabit, which only gets more and more interesting as the show goes along. It's both "cheesy" and serious in the Tenchi Muyo, drenched into a conceptual artistic style which could only exist in anime. A show which is both charming, entertaining and technically sharp.

Though the show has some flaws, the most incredible thing about the series is that it saves itself from the dreaded cliche, the oddball flaws and all it's potentially bad moments; by simply giving the viewers pure anime fun, something which never looses it's quality. I really enjoy anime, but I must say that "Tenchi Muyo" is one great classic example. See it now, this one should be seen at least once.
