Synopsis:
If you are a fan of anime and have not heard of this incredibly popular series, you have probably not gotten around a lot, or have considerably missed out of a good portion of the hype in the world of anime commercialism. For starters, "Dragonball Z", or "DBZ" as it's often called, is one of the most internationally well-known and popular anime series around. Having been a huge favorite amongst many fans for years, it's success has soared through countless television episodes and multiple series, several motion pictures, toys, comics, memorablilia and more. The success which sky-rocketted the show's fame into unlike anything seen before. The show contains enough anime production techniques and countless characters to make any fan think twice about whats going on, one can easily find themselves lost in the epic lengthy storyline. The Dragonball universe is an epic anime which began in the 80s. It was an action sci-fi saga centering around a young boy, and his quest to become the ultimate warrior; in order to destroy a great evil. DBZ is so diverse and lengthy, that it can't possibly be explained in one anime review, let alone two or three. It mainly centers around a man named "Goku", a brave and skilled young warrior who began his quest of searching for all the "Dragonballs". A set of mystical orbs which contained the great power of being able to summon anyone back to life. Our anime saga began with the first series "Dragonball", "Goku's" epic quest and battles in finding the ultimate skill to fight. In the world of "DBZ", there are those who oppose good and just in the world, those who take it amoung themselves to take all the dragonballs for themselves ; in order to utilize their power to rule the universe. "Dragonball Z" took anime fans on a wild ride second time around. This time with an older more skillful group of often powerful and misfit characters. First off is "Goku", all grown up now; along with his wife "Chi-Chi", his son "Gohan" and Gohan's friend "Krillen" and alas the infamous "Piccalo". Along with this cast of characters is the evil "Vegeta" and his group of henchmen & the mega-powerful "Friezza"; ruler of all evil. Dragonball Z is the story of these characters' quest in discovering the ultimate martial arts techniques and powers, and the struggle against the evil forces who will stop at nothing to destory all that is good.
Review:
The series takes place in a world of incomprehensible size, and for those of you who don't already know, DBZ is most prominently an action adventure anime; one which centers around the battle to obtain the dragonballs. While watching the show one cannot actually know why everyone wants to get there hands on them. The series is much draged out over a "more-than-200" episode television series. An attempt to really get the viewers into the storyline of this epic world of "Dragonball". The show is comprised of many large scale, and yes; long! fight sequences, as well as the lives of these highly unusual and numerous characters. Call it ridiculous, call it over-the-top, but call it great. DBZ is one of the most popular animes ever made, and I can clearly see why. There are so many characters in this thing, one could easily find themselves in the beginning, middle or end of the series; and still find themselves entertained. It's often been said that you either hate, or love dragonball Z. But In this case, I feel a little bit of both. A series as such which is so well-drawn out as an epic, and so well executed is often hard to dislike. At times you'll find that the series often becomes a bit of a ridiculous action-romp, but then again it attempts to save it's various flaws by leaning toward more character development and appealing plot-twists. We often get a sense of what these characters are like and what they're going through, and marvel at the serie's often wonderful direction and well-executed sequences. Which are in-fact, often completely over the top; combined into one adrenaline-poping rush of entertainment and excitment. Which is what I feel this series is all about. Indeed, DBZ is not trying to be seemingly unrealistic in any sense. But in an artistic rendering, the series has captured the idealism of powerful bad guys and awesome superheros. You can't help but love the somehow in-depth characters and cunning atmosphere. DBZ has always been a classic favorite amongst myself and never seizes to entertain in the slightest bit. I often find myself watching the re-runs over and over again. Though it may not be as technically polished as some of the other current series and animations, the visual style of the series still holds good ground after a long while. Though some of the various "camera-techiques" themselves are a bit dated, the show's incredible sense of visual imagination and effects are still as impressive as ever. The animation is still fluid and vibrant, and the action sequences incredible. The soundtrack is also rather famous and catchy, consisting of various tracks and score which further enhance the action and environment. DBZ is a true classic of Japanese animation. It is one which should not be missed. Click Here To See Overview! |
