The battle is over

But no one notices yet.

I glance at them;

Their happiness is evident.

I had to look away

As exhaustion overwhelms me

An otherworldly feeling surrounds me

And I realize

My soul is slipping away.

I close my eyes in resignation

And let myself fall to the ground

Not realizing I did not reach it.

A familiar voice calls my name

I do not wish to answer

Such pain my heart had known

That I longed for sleep

For the endless sleep

That none could ever wake from

But that voice kept calling

And finally I opened my eyes

The first thing I gazed upon was him.

His eyes seemed to penetrate me

Accusing me of some great betrayal

Fresh pain pierced my heart

I had thought there was nothing

Nothing at all that could keep me here

But as I looked upon his face

I realized I was wrong.

I tried to move my hand

I tried to speak

But my strength had left me.

I close my eyes

Take one last breath

And slip into darkness
