Chapter Five - And the Stars of Heaven Shall Shine

Raiha heard the shuffling of footsteps behind him. There’s only one man who could get so close to him without him noticing.

“Kurei-sama…” Raiha said softly. The man in the red robe sat down silently beside his ninja. Both men looked at the sunset, mesmerized by its beauty. It was not for quite a while before Kurei decided to spoke up.

“Raiha…you love her, don’t you?”

“Kurei-sama, I hope you will not intrude into my personal life.”

“But just for a reminder, Raiha, Kirisawa Fuuko is enemy. I do not want you to one day wake up and find her dead, or worse still, that you are the one who killed her.”

“Is that why you ask Mori-sama to organize the Urabattousatsujin? For me to realize that it would be impossible for us to be together?”

“It’s for your own good, Raiha. You knew what happened to Kurenai and myself. You were there to witness the event.”

“Kurei-sama, you knew at that time that your relationship with Kurenai-sama would not last but you still went ahead with it. I’m merely following you example.”

Kurei got up, dusted his robe and walked away, saying, “Fine with me. Do whatever you want but let me tell you something: I’m not exactly a fine example to follow.”

The vanishing back view of Kurei slowly evolved into that of a certain wind wielder. Raiha quickly ran towards her.

“Fuuko!” The girl in front turned around, but instead of Fuuko’s face that he saw, it was that of the girl he had saved from a car accident.

“Mikiyu…”

The blue haired girl looked up as she heard her name. Softly, she raised her hand to caress that handsome face beside her. Last night was so magical for her, a dream come through. Never had she thought that they would become one. The sacred ritual between them that had bonded them together as man and woman.

Raiha opened his amber eyes abruptly as he felt a warm body next to him and widened them as he recognized whom that warm body was.

“Hm…Raiha-kun?” Mikiyu asked as she saw shock registered itself on Raiha’s face.

“Me…you…us…last night…” He started stammering as realization began to settle in. He raped the girl. He did something that was beyond humanity. He was drunk but that was certainly no reason for him to take away the poor girl’s innocence. Especially when he had not loved her at all.

Raiha took another look at Mikiyu. Hate was not in her eyes, instead, it was a look of content, love. Everything he could not give her.

“I…I’m sorry.” That was lame, Raiha thought. But what else could he come up with other than that? No amount of excuses or reasons could undo what he had done last night.

“What did you say, Raiha-kun?” There was this twisted look on her face, a look of hurt. Raiha could not help but feel this pang of guilt ate him.

“I’m sorry about what I’d done last night. I was drunk.”

“Very well then. Goodbye.” The girl got up from the bed and dressed herself quickly before walking out of the room.

She hoped that he would stop her and told her he regretted what he had just said.

But he did not.

The next time Raiha saw Mikiyu was at the Uruha’s meeting, where those who would be taking part in the upcoming match attended. But what he saw was not the sweet little girl that walked out his room that day. Instead, it was a human-shaped madougu with its user in it.

// Mikiyu walked into the madougu room with Joker.

“So, take a pick, Mikiyu-san.” She looked round. The room was filled with things that she had never seen before. Metallic stuff with huge blades was certainly not her style. Develop your own flair, that was what Kurei said. So she would. She would never be looked down upon again. She would never be bullied again. From now on, Mikiyu would no longer exist.

Something then caught her eye. She went forward and stopped in front of a human-shaped madougu.

“What’s the name of this?” She asked Joker.

“Mikoto.”

When I was young I used to believe there's a beautiful goddess living on every star. Each star in the sky represent a person on Earth, and that goddess is the one in charge of that person's life and destiny. Even now, I still hold on to that belief.

Being in charge of a man’s life and death, that’s what she would become. //

Later after the meeting ended, Raiha stopped the girl in the doorway.

“Mikiyu-san, may I talk to you face to face?”

“You are face to face with me right now, Raiha.”

“I mean, out of your madougu.”

“My madougu and I are already one. Let me do the introductions. Nice to meet you, Raiha. We are Mikoto, the goddesses in charge of a man’s life and death.”

“Goddess of the Stars.”

Yes, Mikoto, goddess of the stars, that’s what she had become.

Because of one night

Of one man

Because of him

It had been a really long time since I had written another chapter of this fic, as every time I wanted to write, I would have to face up to the temptation of writing a lemon between Raiha and Mikoto. *bleah* I’ll be killed by Saturn if I ever write a lemon. She never supported this fic in the first place. Anyway, I did manage to fight my temptation and come up with this. *phew* I really hope to have the next installment by the end of March but my timetable do not allow me to. I’ll try hard though.

Many thanks to Ice who stayed as a supporter of this even when Saturn threatens to kill the both of us. Also many appreciations to Saturn whose irritation and death threats proved to be a motivation for me to produce this chapter. =]
