Tenkuu no Escaflowne
~ The Vision of Escaflowne ~

I don't remember which website I got these pictures from... If they're yours, tell me and I'll give you credit.
This a short little animation I made using those pictures. The actual animation in the series is much nicer looking than this one and shows up when Hitomi believes that Allen Shezar has wings.

The Cast (The Main Characters)*:

Genre:
Two words: big mech.
Series Info:
There are 26 episodes (each one is about half an hour long) and a movie. The series was shown on FOX in America for a while a couple years ago, but it was pulled due to bad ratings (or, more likely, it's because they decided to show the doppelganger episode and kids' parents called in and complained about nudity). Two manga series are based on the anime-- one is shoujo and the other shounen.
Soundtrack Info:
There are three soundtracks for the series, then the "Lovers Only" soundtrack, and then the soundtrack to the movie. Sakamoto Maaya sings most of the songs and has most on her own CDs (Hotch Potch and Grapefruit). Hotch Potch contains the song that she dedicated to Hitomi-- "Call Your Name." Yoko Kanno composed and arranged the music. The opening song is "Yakusoku Wa Iranai," performed by Sakamoto Maaya. The ending song is "Mystic Eyes," by Hiroki Wada.
Summary:
Kanzaki Hitomi is a fortune-telling high school girl who is inadvertantly teleported to Gaea, a world that refers to Earth as the "Mystic Moon." The series follows Hitomi's and Van Fanel's adventures. (Yes, I am fully aware that there is a lot more to it than that, but I don't want to spoil anything.)
Review:
4.5/5 stars
Wow, it's been a while since I watched this series and I missed watching most of the second VHS tape, so I went back and watched it after I finished the series (boy, was that a mistake-- I should have watched it as soon as possible). Speaking of which, if you're going to watch this series, I would strongly recommend that you watch the episodes in order because you'll be really confused otherwise (the part of the second tape I missed covered the whole blood pact thing...). It's a good series because it balances the violence with some romance, suspense, intrigue, and some good laughs (although, there aren't a lot of those...). Those who get queasy watching animated blood should be forewarned because there is quite a bit of gore, but it's not too bad. Overall, it's a good story with a plot (albeit sort of confusing) and a little bit of everything for everyone.
The movie, on the other hand, was really disappointing-- not only did they scrap most of the original plot, but the animators suddenly decided to give the characters really monstrously huge lips. The first 10 minutes of sword fighting look like a bunch of shadowy figures running around in an unlit room-- really exciting, as you can imagine.

*There are a whole bunch of characters, so for space's sake, I've only included 10 here. You can google the rest of them.
