Although he is a re-incarnation, Eriol is still a whole different person. In fact, if Eriol didn't have magical powers and such, he'd be a normal, energetic kid. When Eriol arrives, he sets challenges and problems for Sakura to confront, and in a twisted way, he helps her convert the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards.
