Tamahome is the
first seishi to appear on the scene and he has a big part in the series
since he was with Miaka in the beginning song of the series. He met Miaka
and Yui when the two girls were first sucked into the book and he defended
them from the evil bad men trying to kidnap and sell them. Then he asked
for money. Typical Tamahome. Miaka then chased Tamahome down and they met
up again the capital of Konan country, Eiyou. Once again, Tamahome saves
her life and he became her protector since Miaka always finds trouble.
Their feeling develop for each other but it has them confused in the beginning.
Tamahome then meets up with Hotohori and Nuriko and Nuriko likes Hotohori
but Hotohori pays attention to Miaka so Tamahome finds himself on the receiving
end of Nuriko's strong affections. At first, he loves it but it wears him
out after Nuriko ties him up and drags him away from Miaka. He gets his
nickname from Nuriko who calls him Tama-chan and it annoys him because
Tama is a common name for a cat and Tama is used by Tasuki in the OVAS.
Tama is also the name given to Mitsukake's cat by Miaka.
When Tamahome
and Miaka finally tell each other about their feelings, their love grows
strong and pure. Tamahome always sacrifices himself without any hesitation
for Miaka and the other seishi. He's extremely skilled in the martial arts
and he's loyal to his friends. His childhood was a hard one for his family
was very poor so tamahome had to work to save up money since his father
was too sickly to work. This need started his love for money. Tamahome
would do anything for his family and is always looking out for their well
being and happiness.
Tamahome is
seventeen throughout the series and OVAs because he was 17 in the series
but then he was living in Miaka's world so he never aged although those
in the book world aged 2 years. Tamahome lived for six months as Taka in
the real world. The OVAS tried to show that he wanted to be with Miaka
so he lost all his memories of Tamahome to exist in the miko's world as
Taka. His memories of Tamahome was stored in marbles which every Suzaku
seishi kept and they were returned to Taka in OVA 2.
