In
the beginning, Nuriko is deeply in love with Hotohori, the Emperor of Konan,
and dislikes Miaka's closeness to him. As a result, Nuriko deliberately
chases after Tamahome for revenge. Tamahome enjoys this but gets tired
of nuriko's possessiveness and he tries to run from him. So Nuriko has
do what what he does best and that's using his strength to capture tamahome
and force him to be with him. Nuriko appears as a court princess named
Kourin. "She" dislikes Miaka and tries to trick her and make her hate "her"
back but Miaka's friendliness eventually wins over Nuriko's jealously and
they become best friends.
Miaka tells
Nuriko that she's not interested in being with Hotohori so Nuriko tries
to get Miaka and Tamahome together so she can have Hotohori all to herself.
Soon, we find out Nuriko is really a man and that is a big obstacle in
getting Hotohori's love.
Nuriko is really
strong and not just physically. Nuriko is often most the shoulder to cry
on and he is very understanding. He does his best to se to that his friends
are happy and is always willing to right some wrong between Miaka and Tamahome.
Nuriko eventually develops feelings for Miaka but he tells Tamahome he
wouldn't act on it since he sees that they are so happy with one another.
Nuriko is like a big brother to all the seishi and especially to Tamahome.
He's very optimistic and tries to be cheerful in times of sorrow. Nuriko
also keeps Tasuki in check, usually be whacking him whenever he says the
wrong thing at the wrong time. Nuriko is a cheerful, happy, giving person,
who is a friend to all, and who is proud of his destiny as a Suzaku Seishi.
As a child,
Nuriko had a little sister named Kourin. Although Kourin was a year younger
than Nuriko, they were so much alike that people thought they were twins.
One day, the young ten year old Nuriko was out for a walk, and Kourin raced
to catch up with him. As Nuriko turned around, he saw Kourin step out onto
the street, just as a team of speeding, runaway horses appeared. Before
Nuriko's eyes, Kourin was trampled to death on the street. In order to
keep Kourin's spirit with him, Nuriko "went" gay, dressing as his sister,
letting himself take her place. But with Miaka's help, Nuriko was able
to put the past behind him and create his own identity. He cut of his braid
and he buried as if it was Kourin.
Nuriko was the
first Suzaku seishi to die when he was killed by the Seiryuu seishi, Ashitare.
So he also is still 18 and a ghost. *I was so sad when Nuriko died.
He's my second favorite along with Tamahome and Chichiri!* He said that
Tamahome is older than him but when you look at it, it's technically not
true because Tamahome lived for 6 months as Taka and Nuriko doesn't age
during the two years in the OVAS.
