Mitsukake is
the very tall, quiet, and shy man who is the sixth of the Suzaku Seishi
to appear to the Suzaku no miko. He ws discovered when the Miaka, Hotohori,
Nuriko and Tasuki traveled to a village named Choko to find a woman who
has the power to raise the dead. This woman wa named Shoka and was a past
lover of Myojuan. Shoka however was causing the mysterious plague in the
village because she was possessed by a demon called Shikonki. Unfortunately,
Miaka is unlucky enough to catch it the virus and there was no cure.
The only alternative was let Miaka die and be revived by Shoka's powers.
The gang wouldn't let Miaka die so they find a hermit named Myojuan but
he refused to help. After hearing Shoka was alive and with them, Myojuan
told the Suzaku seishi that Shoka died a year ago. The gang raced back
to Shoka's place only to find Shoka ready to attack Miaka. Myojuan appeared
and used his healing power to save Shoka's soul from the demon only to
have her die again. After healing Miaka and Myojuan admits that he is Suzaku
Seishi Mitsukake, and joins the other Seishi in protection of Suzaku No
Miko.
Mitsukake is
calm, kind, very little angers or upsets him. He doesn't say much
if he doesn't have to and he doesn't like wasting words. But when he does
talk, it always is very contributing. Mitsukake possesses healing power,
but can only heal using his power once per day. Healing requires such power
that any more than once a day would kill Mitsukake. Mitsukake had a very
sad past that involved his lover, Shoka's death and how it made him stop
being a doctor.
Five years previously,
when Mitsukake was seventeen, his entire family was killed in terrible
floods that raged through Konan. *Same one when Chichiri lost his best
friend.* Mitsukake became a doctor because of his healing power, and looked
after the people in Choko. He met and loved a woman named Shoka, and they
two spent their days together. Mitsukake was called away for heal another
person when Shoka suddenly fell ill with a terrible disease. She tried
to endure the sickness, waiting for Mitsukake's return but she died before
Mitsukake could return to cure her. After Shoka’s death, Mitsukake entered
mourning, and left to live like a hermit, swearing never to use his healing
power any longer because he failed to save the one he loved the most. He
lived this way for an entire year away from Choko until he met Miaka and
the Suzaku seishi.
