Mobile suites

The following is a page on all mobile suits shows in Gundam Wing and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz.

mobile suit

A humanoid vehicle operated by a human pilot. Military mobile suits stand about 16 meters tall, and carry hand weapons like machine guns, beam rifles, and beam sabers. Most are designed for a specific environment - land, space, air or water - though the Alliance's standard Leo model is flexible enough to be adapted for both land and space use.

Gundam

An advanced mobile suit made entirely from Gundanium alloy, from which it derives it name. Thanks to its Gundanium construction, a Gundam is not only virtually indestructible, but is also invisible to radar and thus can only be detected at close range. Five Gundams were created by rebel space colonists for use in Operation Meteor, with firepower and performance far surpassing that of the Alliance's mass-produced mobile suits.

GUNDAMS

WING GUNDAM

This advanced mobile suit was created by a resistance group at the L1 colony cluster for the sole purpose of battling Oz. The Wing Gundam can transform into a winged "bird mode" superior to any conventional fighter plane; in this form, it can survive re-entry and fly in Earth's atmosphere. Its primary weapon is the buster rifle, an immensely powerful beam weapon which can be fired only three times before its energy supply must be recharged. For close-range combat, the Wing Gundam relies on its shoulder-mounted machine cannons and the beam sabers stored in its shield.

    Pilot: Heero Yuy

GUNDAM DEATHSYTHE

This black, scythe-toting Gundam was created near the L2 colony cluster by the Sweeper Group salvage organization. The aptly-named Deathscythe is equipped with hyper jammers that conceal it from cameras and radar, allowing this Gundam to ambush enemy mobile suits and strike them down with one blow from its mighty beam scythe. Its buster shield also emits an energy blade, and can even be launched at nearby foes. Since the Gundam Deathscythe relies on short-range weapons, it's designed to dash towards its targets at high speed.

    Pilot: Duo Maxwell

GUNDAM HEAVYARMS

The Gundam Heavyarms was created by resistance fighters at the L3 colony cluster. Designed for long-range attacks, this Gundam is packed with guns and missiles from head to foot. The Heavyarms's primary weapon is the lethal beam gatling worn over its left hand, supplemented by homing missiles in its shoulders, micro missiles on its legs, and gatling guns concealed inside its chest. When it's exhausted its ammunition, the Heavyarms must fall back on the small knife mounted on its right forearm.

    Pilot: Trowa Barton

GUNDAM SANDROCK

The Gundam Sandrock was created at the L4 colony cluster, using the resources of the wealthy Winner family. This powerful, heavily-armored Gundam is designed for hand-to-hand combat, and is particularly well-suited to desert conditions. Its main weapons are the curved, heat-radiating blades of its heat shotels; the Sandrock is strong enough to wield one of these huge blades with a single hand, or strike simultaneously with both. The Sandrock can mount its backpack, shield, and both heat shotels on its forearm to perform a deadly pincer attack called the "cross crusher."

    Pilot: Quatre Raberba Winner

SHENLONG GUNDAM

Created by the reistance fighters of the L5 colony cluster, this Gundam's name is derived from the Chinese phrase "god dragon." The Shenlong Gundam's specialty is close-quarters fighting, using its spear-like beam glaive and the extendable "dragon fang" claw built into its right arm. The muzzle of the dragon fang also contains a pair of medium-range flamethrowers; the Shenlong can grasp an enemy mobile suit with its claw, then activate these flamethrowers to perform the scorching "dragon fang fire" attack.

    Pilot: Chang Wufei

WING GUNDAM ZERO

Designed fifteen years ago - but never actually constructed - by the same scientists who sent the five Gundams to Earth, this immensely powerful mobile suit is the ancestor of all the Gundams. Whereas the five later Gundams were made for use on Earth, the Wing Gundam Zero is designed for space combat. It can transform into a "neo bird mode," and is armed with a twin buster rifle more than twice as powerful as that of the Wing Gundam. With its superb performance and immense firepower, this antique design would surely be the ultimate Gundam... were it ever built.

GUNDAM DEATHSCYTHE H

An improved version of the original Gundam Deathscythe, adapted for space combat. The Deathscythe H's "active cloak" uses the same defensive technology as the Mercurius's planet defensors, and doubles as a manuevering system; when opened, it bears an intimidating resemblance to a devil's wings. The Deathscythe's hyper jammers and beam scythe have also been upgraded for its new incarnation.

    Pilot: Duo Maxwell

ALTRON GUNDAM

As suggested by its name, which is derived from the Chinese phrase "two-headed dragon," this improved version of the Shenlong Gundam is equipped with an extendable dragon fang in each arm. Using both claws and their flamethrowers, the Altron Gundam can perform a lethal "twin dragon fang fire" attack. It's also armed with a twin beam trident, and a pair of turret-mounted beam cannons based on the Vayeate's main weapon. Lastly, a set of wing-like "random binders" enhance the Altron Gundam's mobility in space.

    Pilot: Chang Wufei

Wing Gundam Zero Custom

The very first Gundam, originally designed 16 years ago, is more powerful than any of the five that were created for Operation Meteor. The Wing Zero's most powerful and dangerous feature is the Zero System, a control interface that feeds tactical data and combat simulations directly into the pilot's mind; Heero Yuy is one of the few pilots capable of handling this system. Also noteworthy is its primary weapon, the devastating twin buster rifle. As depicted in Endless Waltz, the Wing Zero lacks its "neo bird mode" transformation, but gains a set of feathered wings that enable it to survive re-entry and glide through the atmosphere.

    Pilot: Heero Yuy

Gundam Deathscythe H Custom

The Gundam Deathscythe, one of the five Gundams created for Operation Meteor, used the stealth capabilities of its hyper jammers to attack unsuspecting foes and strike them down with its beam scythe. After its capture by OZ, it was rebuilt by the five scientists who originally created the Gundams. The remodeled Deathscythe H features a radar-absorbing, beam-deflecting "active cloak," which not only enhances its stealth features but protects it from enemy fire as well. Its main weapon, the lethal beam scythe, has also been upgraded.

Gundam Heavyarms Custom

The Gundam Heavyarms, one of the five Gundams created for Operation Meteor, was a walking arsenal of machine guns, gatlings, and missiles, capable of delivering devastating firepower at any range. It was eventually upgraded for space combat, and the remodeled Heavyarms Custom was outfitted with a pair of hand-held double-barreled gatling guns. Though it lacks melee weapons, the combat skills of pilot Trowa Barton make the Heavyarms Custom a lethal opponent even in close combat.

Gundam Sandrock Custom

The Gundam Sandrock, one of the five Gundams created for Operation Meteor, was designed primarily for ground combat in desert regions. Even after being upgraded for space combat, the remodeled Sandrock Custom remains essentially a close-combat mobile suit, whose only significant weapons are its huge, armor-melting heat shotels. To protect it from long-range attacks, the Sandrock Custom can don a protective set of optional armor, which also appears to shield it from the heat of atmospheric re-entry.

Gundam Nataku

The Shenlong Gundam, one of the five Gundams created for Operation Meteor, was designed to have superb close-range fighting abilities. When the Shenlong was captured by OZ, it was reconstructed by the five scientists who originally developed the Gundams, to create the even more fearsome Altron Gundam. With a double-ended twin beam trident in place of the original beam glaive, and a pair of oversized, highly extendable dragon fang claws, the Altron is unmatched as a close-range fighter. Its name is derived from its two dragon fangs - "er-to long" being Chinese for "two-headed dragon" - but its pilot prefers to call his Gundam "Nataku."

OZ

TALLGEESE

This twenty-year-old museum piece was the first military mobile suit, and is the common ancestor of both the Gundams and Oz's own mobile suits. Oz deemed the prototype Tallgeese too expensive to mass-produce and too hard to pilot, so the design was simplified and scaled down to create the standard Leo. As a result, the Tallgeese's specifications are superior to those of most modern mobile suits, and this mothballed prototype is the only thing in Oz's arsenal capable of fighting a Gundam. However, its high acceleration and instability make flying the Tallgeese hazardous for even the best of pilots.

    Pilot: Zechs Merquise

LEO

The Leo is the standard mobile suit of both the Earth Alliance, and the elite Specials taskforce that serves as a camouflage for Oz. Though it's unremarkable in every respect, and certainly no match for a Gundam, the Leo is highly adaptable. Numerous variations exist, including a space version, a model armed with shoulder cannons, a high mobility type capable of short-distance flight, and the "early type" which remains in service in China. Usually armed with a 105mm machine gun, the Leo can also use a beam rifle, a heavy bazooka, or a powerful sH-firing cannon called a "dobergun."

ARIES

Able to transform into a flight mode for aerial travel, this jet-propelled mobile suit is a favorite of Oz pilots. Other than its ability to fly, the Aries is fairly unremarkable. Its usual armament consists of a chain rifle and optional missile pods, which can be stowed on pylons underneath its wings.

    Pilot: Lucrezia Noin

TRAGOS

A spinoff of the Leo, this squat mobile suit can transform into an agile hovercraft. It usually carries a pair of shoulder-mounted cannons, further increasingly its resemblance to a tank. Though the Tragos might seem to break from Oz's tradition of naming mobile suits after Zodiac signs, its name means "goat" in Greek, making it a substitute for Capricorn.

CANCER

The least humanoid of Oz's mobile suits, the legless Cancer is effectively a submarine with claws. Its pincers contain torpedo launchers, allowing the Cancer to grapple its foes and then fire its torpedoes at point-blank range.

PISCES

More humanoid than the Cancer, the aquatic Pisces is endowed with stubby legs and makeshift hands, allowing it to perform manual labor and other non-combat tasks. It can transform into a streamlined, submarine-style cruising mode.

TAURUS

The sleek black Taurus, whose fins and wings are reminiscent of a manta ray, is Oz's next-generation space mobile suit. Fast and maneuverable, it can transform into a streamlined cruising mode, and is designed to carry a powerful beam cannon capable of crippling a Gundam. The Taurus also has a bonus feature known as the mobile doll system.

VAYEATE

The Vayeate is an advanced space mobile suit based on the Taurus, incorporating Gundam technology. Designed purely for offense, it's armed with a devastating beam cannon derived from the Wing Gundam's buster rifle. Unlike the buster rifle, which is limited to three blasts, the Vayeate's beam cannon is powered by an external energy generator attached to the mobile suit's back, allowing it to be fired repeatedly. The Vayeate is meant to operate in tandem with the defensive Mercurius.

MERCURIUS

The Mercurius is an advanced space mobile suit based on the Taurus, incorporating Gundam technology. Specializing in defense, it's equipped with a set of "planet defensors," compact force-field generators which can form a defensive barrier around the Mercurius and its offensive partner Vayeate. This defense field is strong enough to deflect attacks even from the Gundams' powerful weaponry. The Mercurius is armed with a small beam gun, and its crash shield generates a large beam blade for warding off close-range attackers.

EPYON

This mysterious mobile suit is created by OZ leader Treize Khushrenada, based on data from the Tallgeese and the other Gundams. In keeping with Treize's philosophy, the Gundam Epyon eschews cowardly long-range weapons in favor of chivalrous close combat. Its main weapons are a segmented, whip-like heat rod, and a powerful beam sword whose energy is supplied by a direct connection to the Epyon's generator. The Epyon can also transform into a "mobile armor" mode for high-speed flight.

Serpent Custom

Originally developed by the Earth Alliance as a successor to the general-purpose mobile suit Leo, this "thirteenth Zodiac" was completed and mass-produced by the Barton Foundation as the main weapon of its Mariemaia Army. Armored with sturdy Neo Titanium alloy, and equipped with built-in missiles and a variety of heavy weapons, the Serpent would be more than a match for other mass-produced mobile suits. But in this postwar era, when the world government has voluntarily disarmed itself, the Serpent's firepower seems like sheer overkill... at least until those pesky Gundams show up.

ALLIES

MAGANAC

This versatile mobile suit is used by all forty members of the Maganac Corps, though each pilot has customized it to his own taste. The personal Maganac of team leader Rasid Kurama sports a command antenna and armor plates resembling those of the Gundam Sandrock; others feature modifications such as oversized crushing claws, flowing cloaks, or heavy artillery.

Tallgeese III

The twin brother of Treize Khushrenada's Tallgeese II, this recreation of the legendary mobile suit was built at the very end of the great war between Earth and the space colonies. Its special weapons - a mighty mega cannon, and a heat rod derived from that of the Gundam Epyon - weren't completed in time for the Tallgeese III to see combat. After the war, it was seized by the Earth Sphere United Nation's intelligence agency, "Preventer." Though almost all mobile suits were destroyed by the new government in the name of world peace, the Tallgeese III was stashed away in case of emergency... an emergency that has now arisen.
