Duo peaked into the living room to see his fiancée sitting on the couch reading a book and listening to some quiet music. With a relieved sigh he turned around and was halfway up the stairs when a voice said, "I see you finally made it home, Duo."

Freezing mid step, Duo slowly turned his head to see Wufei leaning against the wall at the bottom of the stairs an angry scowl on his face. Thinking quickly Duo faked a yawn and sleepily blinked his eyes.

"Hey Fei I didn't know you were awake already."

"Of course you did. It was you who was just peaking into the living room a few minutes ago wasn't it."

"Maybe." Duo said vaguely, looking everywhere but at Wufei.

"Care to tell me why you decided not to come home for the past three days without calling to let me know that you were all right?"

Duo didn't answer. Wufei started climbing the stairs and stopped one step below Duo, his face calm but anger still evident in his chocolate brown eyes. They stood there in silence for a few minutes, Duo trying not to look at Wufei and Wufei staring at Duo waiting for an answer.

With a sigh Wufei said, "I was worried sick when you didn't come home. I searched everywhere for you; I even have the others out there looking in places you might have gone. Duo . .why did you go? Was it something I did? Are you still mad that I wanted white lilies for the wedding instead of dandelions and roses?"

Duo then looked at Wufei and saw the guilt and pain he had caused by leaving in his eyes. Sitting down on the steps, Duo put his head into his hands rubbed his eyes. "No Fei that isn't why I was gone for so long. I had already stopped being angry by the time I had turned the corner after walking out." Duo explained.

"Then why koi, why did you stay away?" Wufei sat down as well and looked imploringly at Duo's hunched form, knowing that he wasn't going to get anything out of Duo until he was ready to speak.

"I was afraid. Scared actually and I had a lot to think about." Wufei was shocked, "What would you be scared of? I know we've fought before but we've always been able to make up." "It's not that. I was afraid that I'd loose the only thing more valuable to me than the world."

"Oh and what would that be?"

"You. Wufei I'll never be able to express the love I feel for you. You're more important to me than breathing, I'd give my life for you." Duo paused. "Wu, I told you about my past how Solo died in my arms then the Maxwell church being attacked because of the rebels that were hiding out in the church. But I never really admitted to you or myself that I thought they all died because of me. How if I had gotten to Solo a few minutes earlier with the cure, he would still be alive or if I hadn't been off stealing a mobile doll for the rebels I could have been there with the other kids at the church because that was where I belonged. So when I had turned the corner I kept walking thinking that maybe you would be better off with a guy who doesn't have death following him everywhere."

"Duo how could you think such a thing? Without that cure the other orphaned kids would have died and Solo knew that. Father Maxwell and Sister Helen would never blame you for trying to do what was right. By what you have told me they would be proud that you tried to protect them even though you were a child yourself. You even piloted Deathscythe just so someone else wouldn't have to." Wufei reached out a hand and pulled Duo's face up from his hands and turned it to look at him. "You're a very kind hearted person Duo and they all loved you, _I_ love you. I don't want someone else who hasn't been through the war or hasn't shed just as much blood as I have, I mean would they understand me like you do if I woke up from a nightmare screaming. Would they hold me at night and try to sooth me when I cry about the deaths of my colony telling me that it wasn't my fault. No one can understand and love me like you Duo and no matter how long it takes I'll make sure you know that. Okay?"

Duo looked deep into Wufei's eyes seeing the swirl of emotions play through those onyx depths. "But what if you die like the rest of them? I wouldn't be able to take it. I've already lost so much, losing you would be the blow that made it all final."

"Duo I can't promise you I won't die, it's inevitable. But I do promise I'll always be with you whether it's by your side or in your heart." Wufei placed a hand over Duo's heart, watching the tears make slow tracks down Duo's face.

"I knew there was a reason why I proposed to you. My koibito, my Fei." Duo leaned forward and wrapped his arms around Wufei's waist. "And I thought it was just all the mind blowing sex we have every night." Wufei commented before his lips were captured in a kiss.

Two months later

"Well Duo today's the big day! How do you feel?" Quatre asked making sure Duo's tie was on straight.

"Like I just swallowed a horde of butterflies. Quatre you're making it too tight I can't breathe." Duo gasped out.

"Oops sorry." Loosening the tie, Quatre smoothed the cuff of Duo's jacket then stood back to inspect his friend. Duo wore a black tuxedo with a white silk shirt and black bow tie. There had been an argument the week before about who would be the bride since same sex marriages had not been legalized yet. Duo had won in a game of rock, paper, scissors so with a fierce scowl and much coaxing Wufei was now getting fitted by Relena, Noin, and Une in the bridal side of the church.

"Hn at least you stopped trying to escape. We almost didn't find you hiding in the floor boards." Heero said from his seat by the door.

"Yeah well I'm nervous. You weren't better off yourself Mr. I'm-not- marrying-her-unless-you-drag-my-cold-dead-body-to-the-alter Yuy." Duo said sticking his tongue out. Quatre laughed and straightened out his own cuffs.

There was a knock on the door then Trowa stepped in, "Okay guys the minister is ready and all the guests have arrived. It's our turn to get out there."

Taking a deep breath, Duo went out the door, followed closely by Heero and Quatre and headed down the aisle were all of their friends sat to the sides waiting for the wedding to begin. Standing before the minister with his hands clasped in front of him, Duo almost jumped when the wedding march began to play and the most beautiful sight he had ever seen came slowly walking down the aisle. Straightening up Duo watched in awe as Zechs led his veiled Wu bride up to the alter and with a nod `gave the bride away'.

As the minister began the initial rites that would bind them forever, Duo looked lovingly at Wufei remembering how he had almost lost the most important thing in his life because of a hidden fear from his past.

"You both said you had written your own vows to each other." The minister looked at Duo who went first. Turning to Wufei, Duo grabbed both his hands in his, took a deep breath, and looked in his eyes. "Fei, I fell in love with you the minute you called me a baka. You've been there for me when I was down and not once have you ever lost faith in me. We've had good times and bad and through it all you held me tight and not let go. I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you . . . .if you'll have me."

The minister then looked at Wufei who cleared his throat and began."Duo of course I would want to spend the rest of my life with you. You made me laugh when I felt like crying. It was you who took me out of my shell and helped me see who I really was. I'll never be able to thank you enough for giving me back what I thought was lost, but I can love you which is what I've done since the day you ran into my room and soaked my bed with cold water cause you thought my room was on fire. So let both of us spend the rest of our lives together."

There was silence for a while until the minister who was rapidly blinking his eyes, spoke again. "If there is anyone who thinks these two should not be wed then let them speak now or forever hold their peace."

Nothing but the sound of crickets answered his call or it could have been the fact that twenty some odd people were looking around the room their guns pulled out and glaring at anyone who would dare object. "Then I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss the bride."

With a smile Duo lifted the veil of his bride who was smiling as well and dipped Wufei, who let out a laugh before having Duo's lips on his.
