Epilogue
“WUFEI~ I LOVE YOU ~” Duo shouted as loud as he could towards the far away cloud covered mountains. He grinned as he listened to the echo: “Wufei~ fei~ Love~ you~ you~ you~”
Wufei went red in the face as other visitors threw curious glances at them.
“Duo, stop that. We have become the center of attraction!”
“So?”
Duo couldn’t careless about what others think of him. He leaned towards the
wall, catching the fascinating sight of
Beijing's light at dawn in Autumn. “I have to admit, this is breathtaking.
No wonder The Great Wall of China is considered one of the seven wonders. Do
you know that it is the only man-made
object that can be seen from outer space with naked eyes?”
“Yes, I do. I look at
it from Nataku for many, many times. It felt unreal to finally step on it.” A
brief look of pain crossed Wufei’s handsome features.
Duo hugged the boy
close to him, knowing that Wufei had recalled his encounter with the master
builder of this great structure. Their visit to The Great Wall was partly due
to “nobody should visit China without seeing the Great Wall”, but mainly as a
healing process for Wufei. He didn’t want Wufei to shrink from anything related
with Emperor Shi. Wufei could forget what happened, but he shouldn’t pretend it
never took place. Duo knew first hand how pretending things never occur could
hurt more in the long term.
“Hey~ Duo~ Wufei~” The
couple turned around and saw the other two pairs catching up with them. Trowa
had his arm around Quatre’s waist, and Zech had his over Heero’s shoulder.
Wufei smiled. Trowa
and Quatre looked so perfect together. There’s never any doubt that they will
end up together. Quatre’s kind nature matched with Trowa’s silent tenderness.
Heero and Zech, on the other hand, had been a surprise for him. Now that he
looked at them, Wufei realized they being a couple was only natural. Heero,
with his unruly mop of dark brown hair and wild, untamed light in his piercing
eyes, was a strong contrast standing beside Zech, who had long, velvety
platinum hair and manner of a gentleman. An ideal match of the wild and the
gentle.
How about himself and
Duo? It’s the most impossible pairing of all, or is it? He remembered how
annoying Duo had been when they first met. The non-stop chatting was a torture
to him who treasured peace and quiet. The practical jokes that Duo enjoyed
playing made him furious, and as a veggie lover he couldn’t figure out how
people could eat greasy fast food. He had no idea how he ended up falling in
love with this one person who irritated him to no end in the beginning. Maybe
because he had also seen the courage and integrity of the American boy, a
comrade who had earned his respects. He couldn’t help but admire Duo. After a
great deal of suffering, Duo was able to keep up hope, and there’s so much life
in him that Wufei couldn’t help but fell for him.
“Wufei? What are you thinking?” Duo asked his
lover softly. Wufei gave him a bright smile.
“Our future.” He
seized Duo’s hand gently, placing it over his heart, “I am afraid you are stuck
with me.”
“There’s no other
place where I would rather be.” Duo smiled.
