Part 3
The following hours at Preventer headquarter, it’s worse than hell if you asked Wufei.
“Nononono, go away.” Wufei murmured as he saw yet another agent walking towards him with that smile. He had had his share of unwanted attention focus on him this morning. He wondered how these people dared to make jokes on him and tease him! It’s not like he was even close with them or anything, but apparently Duo was. Now that he was the official boyfriend of Duo Maxwell, others seemed to deem it acceptable to crack jokes with him. Have they forgotten he was icy, aloof and antisocial just hours ago? **Before Duo and I kissed, our first kiss, in PUBLIC!** his mind added.
“Hello Mr. MacCon, how can I help you?” offense is the best defense; Wufei is determined not to listen to another “Duo & Wufei coupling joke”.
“Mr. Chang, Lady Une would like to see you.”
“I will be right there.” Before Wufei could grab his file and run, the other agent added, “Duo is already there, waiting for you.”
**Err~ Why did I even wake up this morning?**
##
Heero, Duo and Zech were already in Une’s office when Wufei arrived. The expression on his face dared any of them to even make a statement that was not related to work. He might not have the heart to beat the other agents to silence, since that would be unjust, and he disliked fighting the weak, but he did not have a problem challenging any of the ex-gundam pilots to a duel, if they cracked another joke about his relationship with Duo.
“Oi, hello Fei.” Duo was the first to greet him.
“Hello. Maxwell.” Wufei greeted formally. His eyes telling Duo even he would suffer an ill fate if he made fun of him this morning. Seeing that he delivered his message across clearly, he turned to Une, “What bring us here today?” He could see even Une has that expression on her face!
Luckily, whatever problem that brought them here was obviously serious enough that Une did not wish to risk pissing him off.
“We have reasons to believe that this organization is planning on starting a war. ” Une handed every one of them a file containing pictures and some confidential data.
“So they have recruited the best scientists, and obviously have a way with their funding. But is that evidence enough to say their intention is to raise war? It might be they were merely trying to invent something?” Zech commented after going through the files.
“We could be wrong. But I think it is suspicious enough to lead to an investigation. Their activities are secretive, and 100% confidential. The members are not even allowed to mention the name of the organization. Wouldn’t you think there is something fishy going on?” Une asked.
“Hn… it is better to investigate and find that we are wrong than ignore it. From the evidence, it is plausible to say that this organization has the man power and financial ability to start a war if they chose to.” Heero considered after a moment.
“This organization seemed to have existed for a very long time according to some of the data here.” Duo pointed out.
“We were unable to collect much information. We didn’t even have the organization name. However, from what we manage to lay our hands on, it was found out that this organization has been there longer than Oz and maybe even more powerful. I was surprised they didn’t put their weights during the war.” Une paused slightly before continued, “According to my source, I have reason to believe that the operation base is in China. Heero and Zech, I want you to trace where did the funding of the organization comes from and how is it spent. Wufei, since you are Chinese, I thought it might be easier for you to go undercover to China, and maybe even get into the organization. Maxwell will go with you. Is there any questions?” Une asked, noticing a strange look on Wufei’s face.
“What’s wrong, Fei?” Duo asked, concern in his voice.
“This symbol of the organization. It looks strangely familiar, I… I think I have seen it in my dreams.” Wufei pointed towards a photocopy of the logo of the organization. It looked ancient.
“Dreams? Wu-baby, you must be too exhausted after all the teasing this morning,” Duo said sympathetically, and grinned as Wufei blushed slightly, “Could it be that you have seen it in some Chinese books or paintings?”
“Maybe.” Wufei answered, uncertain of himself.
“Hopefully you can discover the truth when you get to China. Your contact person there is Mr. Si Li. He has been the major reason that we can secure more information about this organization.”
“Who is he?” Duo asked, looking at the picture of a Chinese man.
“He is the descendent of a powerful family in China. He has contacts and influence almost everywhere in China, but he has no interest in power. He almost never sees anyone now. But he has agreed to help us.”
“We will join you there if our investigations here led the money source to where you are.” Zech said.
“Alright.” Wufei answered, getting ready to leave.
“Take care of each other, ok?” Une was strangely concerned.
“We will. Don’t worry.” Duo smiled confidently.
