How to make this model bigger?

I've been wanting a MG 42 a long time.
Recently I downloaded this p model from a German site,
and what a big disappointment I get :(
I think the creator purposely did this so that the model can pass the file consistency check. Make sense didn't it?

 

 

Model scaled, but messed up...

I scaled the model to 1:8. But...

It's floating in the air...

 

 

Model fixed, but can be done better

Model was fixed. But not 100%.
But I think it can be shift further down, where the player's hands grip right onto the model.
