"David here. I thought it was going to be a boring summer. My only surprise was that my father didn't need to move again, not that that would help. An even stranger thing would happen when the Digimon video game I was playing came to life. I thought it was some weird glitch until a blue card appeared out of my deck. When I slashed it, V-mon came out of my screen, my card reader changed into a digivice, and the game deleted itself."
"V-mon is a rather interesting guy. The only problem is trying to find a better place to hide him, even though he's real good at hiding. Then, I step out to run some errands, and a weird fog blanketed the area, and I came face-to-face with an Ogremon. Ogremon attacked me, but I was surprised when V-mon jumped out my bedroom window and started fighting with Ogremon. It took me a while to figure out my digivice acted like the card reader, but after that, defeating Ogremon was a piece of cake."

Entry 02: First Party
By: Izumi Ryu
David walked around the room restlessly. He knew there was a lot to do around the house, but he couldn't help but feel bored. Something else was causing this. He looked around the room for V-mon. He found him on the sofa, sitting with elbow on an arm rest and holding his head.
"Bored, V-mon?" David asked.
"What do you expect?" V-mon asked. "You won't let me go outside, and there's nothing to do here. Those video games you have only go so far."
David sighed as he realized what V-mon was saying. However, he knew he couldn't let V-mon outside. People would see him for sure, but V-mon was about to drive him nuts. David finally got frustrated, big time. He needed to get out of the apartment.
"I'm going to take a walk. Please, try not to mess anything up," David said.
"Why can't I go?" V-mon complained.
"Because people aren't exactly used to seeing a Digimon besides on some sort of card or TV screen," David said. "Do you have any clue what people would do to you? Trust me, whatever happens, it won't be good."
"Awww..." V-mon whined.
"I'll be back, V-mon. Don't worry about it," David reassured him. "Sorry, I'll try to make this up to you somehow."
"Fine," V-mon sighed.
David shook his head as he walked towards the entrance to the apartment. He opened the door to the warm summer air and took a step out. As he closed the door behind him, he couldn't help but feel sorry for the lizard Digimon. David just wanted to find something that would help hide him while outdoors.
He walked along the second floor balcony of the apartment complex. The entire complex was just a rectangular building with the apartment entrances facing the inside. In the middle of the complex was a small pool that went no deeper than six feet. David could see several kids playing in the pool that day, with a few adults watching them.
David turned the corner and passed up the stairs that lead to both the first and third floors. Something caught his attention as he got closer a nearby apartment. He could hear what sounded like shouting coming from inside one of the apartments. The sound was a bit muffled, so it was hard to tell what was being said. It surprised David when the door right in front of where he was flew open and a girl about his age stormed out. The girl had shoulder length brown hair. She was wearing a white spaghetti strap top with denim shorts that went to about knee length. As surprising as it was, David noticed it was common for some girls to start wearing that kind of clothing at this age during the summer. However, what really caught David's attention was the fact that she was visibly pissed off and shouting back inside the apartment.
"I'LL QUIT IT WHEN YOU QUIT BEING A BITCH!! GOOD BYE!!" she finally yelled before slamming the door shut.
Then, the girl turned to look at David, who was just standing there stunned. "Ummm...sorry...about..." David stuttered.
"Oh. Sorry about that. This is actually a normal occurrence," the girl said. Then, she noticed who she was speaking to. "Wait a second. Your that boy that came in during the middle of last semester, aren't you? What's your name again?"
David sighed, annoyed about being known as the 'new kid'. "David. And yes, I am the one that transferred late last year, not that I had a choice on the matter," he said, muttering the last phrase.
"I thought you looked familiar," the girl said. "I'm Jessa."
"So, you're the girl everyone's talking about at school," David remarked smirking.
"Umm...yeah..." Jessa said in a rather apathetic tone. She started looking at the door several times. "Wanna go somewhere else? I still need to cool off, and I don't know when my mom will be coming back for more."
"Sure," David said with a shrug.
"There's a Baskin Robbins not too far from here," Jessa said. David followed Jessa down the stairs. Then, they left the through a side exit that led to the side street. David looked towards the bus stop, where the battle between V-mon and Ogremon took place. He saw that there were several barricades surrounding the area where Ogremon's club had impacted, leaving a crater in the sidewalk. David cringed remembering how close he was to being crushed by it.
"You noticed that, too, eh?" Jessa remarked, getting David's attention. "It happened over the weekend when that strange fog came in. No one knows the cause of the impact craters."
"Strange," David remarked, though he wasn't sincere. He knew what really happened and didn't want to remember it.
"By the way, I'm curious. What's your family like, David? I see your father around sometimes and I rarely see you two talk to each other," Erin asked.
"My dad's a real busy guy. I rarely get the chance to see him or spend much time with him. The only time I have really gotten to talk with him is when we move, and even then, there's no time for talk," David replied.
"I had no clue," Jessa said apologetically.
"It's okay," David said. "It's not such a big problem."
"But doesn't it get lonely? I know you don't have any friends here."
"Yeah, well, it's the same with wherever we've lived before. I just don't get the time." David shrugged.
"What? Is your father military or something?" she asked.
"Yeah, right. My dad wouldn't join the military even if his life depended on it," David laughed.
"What about your mother?"
"Mom and Dad divorced years ago. Then, shortly after we moved from where we lived then, she disappeared off the face of the planet. I have no clue what happened to her. My dad refuses to talk to me about what happened for some reason."
"That does make your father seem a bit suspicious, doesn't it?" Jessa asked.
"Yeah, well, it's not like he's gonna tell me anything." David continued following as they turned a street corner. "What about your family? You said that the argument you had was regular."
"My family expects me to take up some crap job as a career, and they try to make me feel as if I can't do any better," Jessa told him. "I don't know what I want to do, but I do know I don't want to work for a restaurant all my life, even if it is run by a family member."
"Ouch," David said cringing. "My dad can be strict, but he's not that bad."
"Yeah, well, what else is new? They practically make it impossible for me to get any studying done, saying I don't need to know this. I barely pass because of them," Jessa told them. "It just drives me nuts that they think they can control my future."
"That's impossible, even if they tried," David said. He noted the Baskin Robbins up ahead. He patted his back pocket and was glad he actually remembered to bring his wallet.
"Yeah, well, tell that to them," Jessa said. "All they say when I tell them I don't want to do that for my future is 'Do you think you're special or something? You have no choice.'"
"Geez...I already hate your parents and I haven't even met them," David said with a sigh.
"Well, that makes two of us," Jessa said, giggling as she realized this.
David couldn't believe that they had opened up to each other so much. He guessed that catching her argument with her family had something to do with that. Then, Jessa turned to David. "Please, don't tell anyone else. You just happened to catch a side of me no one else ever sees."
David shrugged. "Who am I gonna tell? It's not like I really know anyone around here."
Jessa knew David was right. David opened the door to the ice cream parlor and let the girl in ahead of him. "Thanks," Jessa said as she walked in and David entered right behind her.
Considering it was a summer weekday, the parlor had quite a bit of business, but it wasn't packed like it would be on the weekend. They walked to the end of the line, waiting for a clerk to get to them. "Do you have any plans coming up Friday night?" Jessa asked.
"Never do," David said. It wasn't like his father ever told him anything until the last minute.
"You might know Michael. He's having a party at his house Friday night. You should come," Jessa said.
"Michael?" David asked.
"He sat next to you in our history class," Jessa told him.
"Oh, yeah," David said. He remembered who she was talking about, but he never talked to anyone in class. He usually kept to himself.
One of the clerks walked up to David and Jessa. "Hi. What would you like today?"
"Oh...I'll just have a regular chocolate milkshake," David replied.
"Alright. And you, ma'am?" the clerk asked.
"I'll just have a double scoop in a cup, one scoop vanilla, the other Gold Medal Ribbon," Jessa ordered.
"Okay. I'll get those for you in a second," the clerk said, as he walked off to make the orders.
"So, do you want to come? It'll be a good way for you to meet people," Jessa persuaded, turning back towards David.
"Sure, I guess. It's not like I'll have anything better to do," David said, hoping his father would let him go. "However, I don't know where he lives."
"I'll take you there when it's time that evening," she said. They got to the register and paid the cashier. David found a table where the two could sit. David took a sip of his milkshake before the two sat down at the table.
As David sat down, though, David's D-arc caught Jessa's attention. "What is that? Some sort of digivice?" Jessa asked.
David looked at Jessa strangely. "You actually watch Digimon?" David asked, knowing not many people actually watched it.
"Yeah," Jessa replied. "It's an interesting show. Sora's one of my favorite characters."
"Heh. I see. I like it because of the potential it had to mature quite a bit. Hell, a lot of things are different in the original version. I have all of the Japanese episodes on my computer at home, and the four movies," David told her.
"Oh, really...I'd like to check those out," Jessa said. "So, what is with that little device hanging from your belt anyway?"
"I have no clue where my dad got it," David lied. "He gave it to me for Christmas a couple of years ago. It seems to be some sort of card reader for the game. I built a V-mon deck at home, but I never meet anyone that plays the card game."
"Hmmm...I know a couple of guys that do. They might be interested playing against you," Jessa said.
"Cool," David said, as he continued to sip his milkshake.
Jessa had finished her ice cream and tossed it away in the trash can behind her. "You want to head back?" Jessa asked, however, she showed reluctance on her face.
David would object to it, but he needed to go back and check on V-mon. "Sure," he said as he tossed the now empty cup in the trash. "By the way, thanks for everything."
"Don't worry. It's what friends are for," Jessa said.
This line made David realize what he had done. He couldn't help but smile. This was what he wanted, someone that he could at least talk to and hang out with. David walked out of the parlor with Jessa as they continued back towards the apartment complex.
David was relieved when his father allowed him to go to the party Friday night. It wasn't as if he had any real plans for the summer anyway. They weren't going to move again anytime soon, which actually relieved David. Well, he thought differently until his time with Jessa earlier this week.
Jessa walked down the sidewalk along with David in the evening. David kept looking around as if something bothered him. He had decided to let V-mon out and follow them as long as he wasn't seen. However, the fact that he couldn't find V-mon made him a little more worried. He didn't want to use his digivice to search for him, since that would make Jessa suspicious of him.
"Is something wrong?" Jessa asked.
"No, nothing's wrong," David replied, before continuing forward with Jessa.
"Then, why were you spacing out? You know not many guys do that around me," Jessa told him.
"Sorry, just thought someone was following us," he half-way lied. He knew someone was following them, he just didn't know where he was.
"We're almost there," Jessa said. "I don't think anyone will do anything to us."
David sighed, relieved that he managed to evade another incident of revealing V-mon. He began wondering how long he would keep this charade up, though. It may not be long before Jessa figures things out. Lord knows what would happen when she does.
Jessa and David walked up to a modest-looking house. Considering the size of the building, it was probably a two bedroom house. David could hear music from inside, though it wasn't too loud, you could tell there was a party going on inside. Jessa rang the doorbell before waiting on someone to answer it. David seemed nervous for a while, then got a sense of relief when he heard some rustling in the bushes. V-mon had made it.
The door opened to reveal a blonde-headed boy with shoulder-length hair. He appeared to be about the same age as David. David recognized the boy, who just smiled at seeing the two standing in front of him. "Hey, Jessa, David."
"Hey, Michael," Jessa greeted. David just nodded, not saying a thing. Michael wondered if it was a mistake for Jessa to have invited David over, seeing that he may not enjoy himself, or even worse, make this a dead party. He then let David and Jessa into the house, where five others were sitting around. Judging by the variety of people, he could tell he would fit in already. Most of them were recognizable to him, as he saw Jessa talk with these same people at school. He noticed a Japanese girl that he didn't recognize, but what was even more strange was the young Hispanic girl that seemed to cling onto her. He wasn't sure what to think of a nine-year-old girl being here.
"Is it okay for her to be here?" David asked, referring to the young girl.
"Don't worry about Maria. It's not like Michael even allows alcohol at these parties. We really just sit around and chat anyway. It's not like we do anything too rowdy, unless Steve brings out one of his games or Mimi starts a Truth or Dare game," Jessa said. "And considering what she's gone through, it's actually a good thing that Mimi brings her here."
David wasn't sure what to think about that. He heard of how bad some Truth or Dare games can get from overhearing some conversations, but he thought it was no more than rumor. Plus, he doubted they were even going to go that bad with a little girl here.
"So, I see we've got a newbie here," the only other white guy remarked. "I remember you from somewhere. Weren't you in one of my classes?"
While David tried to remember where he saw the guy, the African-American guy spoke up. "Now that Steve mentions it, you do seem familiar."
"Well, I guess it's kinda hard to forget someone that moved in mid-way through a semester, isn't it?" David remarked, getting sick of the "new guy" treatment after so many years.
"I thought so," the Native American boy said. "You rarely talk to anyone at school. In fact, you usually kept to yourself. David's your name, isn't it?"
"Yes, Lou," David said, only remembering his name because he regularly left his history class to go to the nurse's office. When he did, he did look sick, but David couldn't tell whether he faked it or not.
"That was my first guess," Steve said. "You always seemed to get among the top scores in my math class. Where did you guys see him?"
"History," both Michael and Lou responded at the same time.
"He was in my English class," the African-American replied. He cringed at the thought of his English class, which he never did well in.
"What about you two?" David asked the two girls.
"My name is Mimi Tachikawa. I moved here a few years ago from Japan," the Japanese girl replied.
"M...Maria," the young girl replied, reluctant to answer David. She seemed to tighten her grip on Mimi a bit more when she was asked for her name.
"Is she going to be all right?" David asked in concern.
"She's just a little shy around strangers," Mimi told him. That seemed odd to David, since the girl seemed old enough to have gotten over that stage.
"I see. By the way, I've never seen you at our school. How do you know everyone here?"
"I go to the King of Kings Parochial School. Steve, Lou, and Maria all went there before they transferred to public schools," Mimi said.
"Can we not talk about that place?" Steve and Lou chimed in, not wanting to talk about that school for some reason.
"Sorry, guys," Mimi said sheepishly. David would've pressed on, but Steve and Lou seemed a little upset.
"So, what do you like to do?" Steve asked.
David sighed before answering. "Gaming. Anime. Typical Geek stuff, except that I don't go raving about it every hour."
Steve chuckled, knowing the kind of people David is talking about. "Do you play the Digimon card game?" Steve asked.
"Yes, I do, actually," David replied. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small 30-card deck to show him.
"Why do I see a challenge coming on?" the African-American boy remarked, groaning at the thought that the newbie already appealed to Steve.
"Because, Sam, I want to see how good this guy is," Steve told him, pulling out a deck of his own. "Do you mind, Michael?"
"Sure, I'm kinda interested to see how this turns out myself," Michael remarked.
"Same here," Jessa said.
David and Steve got down on the ground and sat on opposite sides of the coffee table. Both boys pulled out their respective Child digimon and placed them face down on the table. The others started to gather around the table to watch the game take place, even Maria let go of Mimi to watch this. The boys drew their cards, then, flipped their Child digimon face-up, David revealed a V-mon while Steve had placed down a Gabumon.
"A V-mon, eh? This should be interesting," Steve said before evolving his Gabumon into a Frigimon.
David just smirked at the evolution as he revealed a Digimental of Courage card, then armor evolved V-mon into Fladramon. This caused Steve's eyes to go wide, it wasn't that Fladramon itself was bad enough, but Fladramon had the effect that it would cut the opposing Digimon's attack power in half. "Shit," Steve muttered. He frantically looked trough his hand to see if he had anything that would help, but there wasn't anything that could double Frigimon's attack strength.
The game continued on with Steve evolving his Digimon to Adult, but Fladramon's ability posed too much of a problem. He was hanging on his last couple of points before he finally found an answer to his problems. Steve dropped an Even Steven card to force a draw for the turn.
"Hmmm...you think you can beat Fladramon?" David asked.
"We're about to find out," Steve said, as he evolved his Digimon to Were Garurumon.
David just shrugged, having no evolution to perfect. It almost looked like Steve finally had David for good, as he finally built Were Garurumon's stats to double Fladramon's Claw Express attack.
David revealed a Force F/X Red card, which switched Fladramon's attack to Fire Rocket. Steve cringed at what just happened, knowing that he was beat.
"Ouch," Michael remarked, seeing what just happened. "At least someone managed to beat Steve at this."
"Not sure what happened. Honestly, that was my first time playing against someone. And all my test draws usually suck," David said, unsure of what happened. It was complete luck that he pulled the Digimental of Courage and Fladramon cards on his first turn.
"Don't worry about it. You played well," Steve said. "I'm curious as to how far that deck of yours can go."
David smiled. He hadn't enjoyed anything like this in a long time. He felt as if he was on top of the world compared to how he felt the last several years. However, David knew that the good times never lasted. He just wanted to prolong this time as much as possible.
Everyone in the room looked up as they heard a strange beeping sound. "That's not from anything here," Michael remarked.
David froze. That beeping sound was familiar to him. He was hoping it really wasn't what he thought it was. The looked down at his waist where his digivice hung, and the screen was flashing red.
"Something wrong, David?" Jessa asked, curious as to why David freaked out the way he did.
"Umm...that's just my pager. Sorry, looks like my Dad's wanting me home early for some reason. I'll see you later," David said. He got up quickly and walked at a rather fast pace towards the front door before any of them got to say good-bye.
Jessa caught sight of David's digivice as he was leaving, seeing it flashing red. He said that was a card-reader. What's going on here? she asked herself. "Something doesn't seem right here," Jessa told the others. "I'm gonna follow him."
"Be careful, Jessa," Michael said.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. I'm more worried about him than anything, since he's acting strangely," Jessa said. She got up from where she was kneeling and ran out the front door, in pursuit of David.
"V-mon!!" David shouted. However, there was no reply. This worried him for several reasons. He could've ran off because he had been neglecting V-mon lately, but that shouldn't have been the case. He actually spent a lot of time with V-mon the past week. The other thing that could have happened was that V-mon went to take on the wild digimon by himself.
David took a quick look at his D-Arc to see what and where the digimon was. The D-Arc showed David a holographic image of a Kabuterimon, then, pointed him which direction it was. He sighed as he realized it was pointing away from his home. He knew this would be a long walk home tonight if he ever gets out of this. David suddenly broke into a sprint towards where Kabuterimon was...and hopefully V-mon.
Jessa had been watching David for a while from the doorstep of Michael's house. Curious as to what's going on, she chased after David, hoping to find some answers.
David finally started to see a thick fog area. He knew he was at the Digital Field right then, but became worried as the fog started to dissipate. Was the battle over already? Or was something else happening?
Once the fog lifted enough to where he could see, he saw Kabuterimon airborne. above the neighborhood. This battle would attract a lot of attention if people weren't asleep by now. He looked down to see V-mon, staring up at Kabuterimon. He was prepared to fight, despite the scorch marks on the street around him, revealing that some of the fighting had already been done.
"V-mon!! You okay?" David asked.
"A little shaken from the big balls of electricity being fired at me, but I'm fine," V-mon said.
"Hang on and I'll end this quick." David reached down for his cards, starting to pull out the Fly Trap card. This should disable him enough for us to finish him off, David thought.
"David?!" a voice asked from behind, which stopped him from pulling out the card completely. He turned around to see Jessa standing there, wide-eyed at the situation.
Shit, it's too risky, David thought. "Well, screw Plan A," David said as he shoved the Fly Trap card back in and pulled out another. Then, he sent it through the card reader. "Card Slash! Aero Wing!"
Dragon wings sprouted out of V-mon's back, then, he immediately took flight, and went straight for Kabuterimon, head first. "Take this!! V-mon Head!!" V-mon yelled. He slammed head-first into Kabuterimon's exoskeleton, but he was repelled back, the exoskeleton being too hard for him to break through. "What happened to this being a quicky?"
"Sorry, V-mon. Innocent bystander changed plans," David said. Then, he turned to Jessa. "I'd explain things to you, but this isn't exactly the time. Get away from here."
"Mega Blaster!!" Kabuterimon formed another ball of electricity and fired it off at the now, aerial V-mon.
"Not again," V-mon complained as he swooped off to the right, barely dodging the attack.
"Grr...V-mon! Try this one," David growled, pulling out another card. "Card Slash! Metal Attack!"
V-mon was completely encased in metal, still forming his body well enough to allow maneuverability. He started tried to hit Kabuterimon with another head-butt, but the attack had the same result as the first. "This is getting old, David!" V-mon complained.
Another electric ball started to form within Kabuterimon's arms. V-mon was prepared to dodge the next attack. He watched as it flew right at him and quickly started to fly to the left. He got a big surprise when the ball seemed to arc right at him. "WHAT?!!" V-mon asked before the attack hit. V-mon screamed out in pain, his now metallic body not helping with the pain.
"Gah! V-mon!!" David yelled, not believing he forgot that metal conducted electricity. He could've just ended V-mon's life with that move.
He sighed in relief when he saw V-mon was staying airborne. However, he needed to figure out what was going on. V-mon was getting his ass handed to him, and he was certain there was no way that V-mon can withstand another attack. He needed to punch through Kabuterimon's exoskeleton somehow.
"What about Iron Drill?" Jessa asked. David turned around to look at Jessa, surprised she was still there. "I saw you use the card against Steve, it should work."
David nodded, but he had his concerns. Iron Drill was metallic as well, and it could backfire on him like Metal Attack did. David finally shook his head. It's now or never, David thought, pulling the Iron Drill card from his deck. "This is it, V-mon! Our last shot! Card Slash!" David slowly ran the card through the reader, then practically ripped it out "Iron Drill!!"
A drill materialized onto V-mon's head. He started spinning it to test it out, then flew head on at Kabuterimon. Kabuterimon started to form another Mega Blaster, but V-mon started to turn out of the path before Kabuterimon could even fire the attack. He arced towards Kabuterimon's side and aimed the drill tip into the insectoid digimon. The drill spinning V-mon dug his way through the Adult level digimon's body, and came out the other side.
Kabuterimon dispersed into data once V-mon came out of him. Then, V-mon started to upload Kabuterimon's data into him.
David sighed in relief as he saw V-mon descending towards the pair of humans. "Thanks, Jessa," David said to her. "I needed a reminder of what I had."
"Can you explain what's going on?" Jessa asked.
"I have no clue how to explain it myself," David replied. "V-mon just appeared out of a computer game and he's been with me ever since. And remember those craters on the sidewalk?"
Jessa nodded in response. "That was from our first battle. An Ogremon appeared there, and I was nearly on the receiving end of his club."
Jessa just cringed at the thought of that. If Ogremon could put craters in concrete, what damage could it have caused to David's head?
"Sorry about lying to you, but I had no other choice. I have to hide V-mon. Though, I also need to find a better place than my apartment."
"Maybe I can help with that," Jessa said. "I know of a place where V-mon can live for now, and he can play around with no worry of getting spotted."
"There's such a place here?" David asked.
Jessa nodded. "We can meet sometime next week and I'll take you there. It's one of the places I go if I need to get away from my parents, so if they can't find me there, V-mon should be no problem."
"Thanks," David nodded. Then, he looked down at V-mon, who had fallen asleep in the middle of the street, his modifications disappeared. David silently picked up the dragon digimon and started to walk. "Need me to walk you home?"
Jessa just nodded as she followed David into the dark streets.
Author's note: Yes, the extra characters that appeared at the party are a "normal" version of the New York Team from the Adventures Diaries timeline. I plan to have chapters with more personal encounters with each one later. How? Well, that'll spoil the surprise, won't it?
