baka- an all-purpose insult denigrating the subject's intelligence. Depending on tone of voice and other factors, it can range in severity from "silly" to "idiot."

bakemono- monster.

chigau- "to deviate, be different."

chikara- strength, power.

chikusho- an exclamation of frustration, equivalent to "D@mn!" or "Sh*t!"

daijoubu- O.K. (about health/wellbeing)

damaru- be still, silent. imperative form: Damare!: "Shut up!/Silence!"

dame- bad, no good; no can do.

gambaru- "to adhere to something with tenacity." "Hang in there!," "Don't give up!

hayai- quick, fast, early. Adverbial form: hayaku! :"Hurry up!"

hen- strange, weird. In compound noun phrases, it assumes an older meaning of "change, transformation."

hentai- classical meaning: "metamorphosis, transformation." Later meaning: "abnormality," Modern colloquial Japanese: "pervert"; "perversion."

hidoi- severe, harsh.

hime- princess.

ii- good.

iku- to go.

inochi- life - dramatic situations common in anime, such as "to stake one's life," "to take a life" and "more important than life."

itai- hurt, pain; painful.

jigoku- Hell. Hades.

joshikousei- a female high school student or cute high school girl in a sailor uniform.

kamawanai- regardless of. "I don't care!"

kami- God, god or any supernatural being with a specific domain/charge/sphere.

kanojo-girlfriend

kareshi- boyfriend.

kawaii- cute.

kedo- but, but still.

kega- wound, injury.

keisatsu- Police.

kokoro- heart, sincerity, spirit/willpower

korosu- to kill.

kowai- to be frightful, afraid

kuru- to come.

mahou- magic, magic spell.

makaseru- to place one's trust in someone or something, to count on.

makeru- to lose.

mamoru- to protect, guard

masaka- Can it be?; It can't be!, No!

matsu- to wait.

naka- a word referring to one's relations, both familial and platonic.

sempai- anyone who is one's senior in a hierarchical organization.

shikashi- however, but, nevertheless.

shikata ga nai- "No help for it," "No way to avoid it," "Nothing left but to deal with it."

shitsukoi- persistent, relentless, tenacious-at the very least a constant pain in the ass.
