Digital Library Project
The Anime Digi-Lib
Return to Anime Digi-Lib Home .

The Anime Digi-Lib's purpose is to enable novices to appreciate the world of Japanese Animation by providing connections to various sources that are both timely and relevant. In addition the websites selected will be evaluated and reviewed by our knowledgable staff to fit basic criteria. The Anime digi-lib's current selection of anime includes old favorites and new additions, and will be updated with more to come.

Our target audience is high school, college students, and young adults who are looking for basic information on specific anime series. We feel that pop culture needs some organization. Especially Japanese Animation. One the World Wide Web is a huge number of pages about Japanese Animation. Until now, one might view many pages with information other than desired. We also believe that with pop culture, students can learn basic library skills without even realizing it.

If we really want to serve every one in our target audience, then we cannot make this digital library difficult to use. Yes, we want fancy and cutesy things. We want to all provide information in every possible way through every format and medium. But what good will that do if it only the smartest people could access it? On the other hand, it is unfair to compare digital libraries to very simple things. If you are looking for information, you need more working brain cells than ATM's and telephones require! We hope our digital library is both easy to use and worthy to be used.

Our objectives are to provide update informational websites, to provide reviews of these sites, to serve as a basic primer to Japanese Animation to those who have no idea what it is, to have a better cataloguing system and interface than www.anipike.com.

The library's collections focus on selected anime titles. We have created general FAQ's, a glossary with over one hundred terms, website reviews and general factsheets. Our intention is to keep building the digi-lib adding more titles and more web pages with the help of library visitors and friends. We have created form pages so the informaiton can be submitted quickly and we can review it. We also have templates made with Dreamweaver because we want our pages uniform and complete.

We have put much thought and time into designing our site. We chose colors that would be pleasing on the eyes. We have attempted to make our site attractive while informational. Our search feature is basic, so we have added a title index and a web site category index. We are still in the process of creating a page of search tips. We also have navigation bars and links guiding users wherever they want to go.

Implementation of metadata was discussed. If we were providing searching, we definitely felt that we needed metadata to influence our search engine to retrieve the most relevant information first. After much consideration, we have chosen to follow the Dublin Core Standard. Visit our X Factsheet .

We have been very careful about Copyright and other Property Issues. The information in our site belongs to us, the creators. We have refrained from using images because none of us can draw anime and we did not want to violate anime artist's integrity. However, we cannot vouch for the sites we have reviewed.

We have no funding for this project, except for access to wonderful SCILS'Mac computers with Dreamweaver installed. Our site is hosted at angelfire, which is free, save advertisements. We chose this so all three of the creators could access the page and not anyone else's personal matters. Our polls and messageboard are free save advertisements as well. The messageboard and forms on the review pages will serve as feedback to the creators. We are and will be constanly reviewing and evaluating our site and features.

Thank you for you interest in our digi-lib.
